DDT was banned in USA in 60's because of its detrimental effects on humans. South Africa still uses DDT cause they would rather avoid malaria and risk effects of DDT over malaria risks.

You do realize that not raising the debt ceiling doesn't mean a default is triggered right? there are plenty of mechanisms for paying our debts that don't require borrowing money.

McConnel is playing a weird game here with reconciliation. Reconciliation is like a Trump card to get around a filibuster, but it can only be used once per period. McConnel wants Schumer to blow the reconciliation on the debt ceiling so he cant use it for the spending bills. But if Schumer does that, then the spending bills will have to be bi-partisan,
Which would be undemocratic.
Since they don't even have enough Democrat votes for reconciliation for the spending bills, this might actually be the 1st time in forever that reconciliation is NOT used ironically.
