trump's appeal to the cognitively challenged

@n8nrgmi
How do you objectively measure intelligence in a political environment that rewards people for calling the opposition stupid as a precursor for tyrannical censorship?

Education most certainly does not equate to intelligence.

Nearly 40% of all colleges in the USA have 0% conservative professors. That means 40% of "educated" people have never learned anything except one side of every issue. That's certainly not the hallmark of an intelligent person, or even a measure of education in the classical meaning of education.

@n8nrgmi
i'm curious, what are a few things you disagree with trump about?
Raising the military budget. Pandering to unions, and not giving inner school children, mostly poor minorities, school vouchers. Signing off on budget bills with no plans to reduce future budget spending, (although I can kind of give him a pass on this since 99% of the budget is under the responsibility of the Congress)

what are a few things you wish trump would be more liberal about?
Depends what you mean by liberal. If you mean freedom from government tyranny, then he is doing a pretty good job so far.
Maybe he can cut some more regulations to get us on par with, say, Hong Kong. Well, that is probably asking too much...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index_of_Economic_Freedom...Hong Kong is at the top of this list. I would be happy if Trump could get us to around a score of 80 which would put us on par with UK. That would be a more reasonable expectation.

If you mean progressive pandering to identity politics, I am not convinced that pseudo-reparations to the hundreds of identity groups is the path toward the future of national harmony.

@n8nrgmi
the article said pollution was reduced by over eighty percent. if that meant eighty percent less death and disease, wouldn't that be worth it? what's the dollar value of death and disease? i can see your point in the abstract, but if you look at the specific numbers, it doesn't look like we should be letting mercury go unchecked.

This is where the statistical analysis is misleading. When you look at levels of heavy metal and heath effects..it is  rarely an exact 1 to 1 ratio throughout all intervals.

As you reduce the levels of heavy metals, the benefits to health translate to more and more insignificant benefits, as it is very hard to tell the health differences between small concentrations, say 1 part per million and 2 parts per million mercury. Because these are relatively very small amounts of mercury we are looking at, 2 parts per million may be 100% more than 1 part per million but it does not necessarily mean we will get 100% more cases of illnesses, as you need to cross some biological thresholds before the body becomes compromised.

Again, Trump is not saying the states cannot impose stricter standards if they feel that power plants are killing off their voters. There is a very real issue of a voter outrage calculus where if you raise to price of energy too much, the voters begin to shift priority over the outrage of deaths due to mercury poisoning. In the end, politicians have to decide policy by appeasing the most prominent outrage. If they fail to do this, then you have situations like California where people leave the state because the politicians did not do a proper outrage analysis.

If you have a way to convince voters that expensive energy is not something for voters to be outraged over, I am sure the local politicians would be all ears. After all, the raison d'etre for politicians is to pander to outrage.

Also, nothing Trump has done prevents the states from imposing their own standards and subsidizing the costs of coal scrubber retrofits. It is far more of a Pennsylvania problem than a Trump problem.

@n8nrgmi
The problem with heavy metals like mercury and lead is that there are no 100% "safe levels"

So you have to do a risk/cost analysis in every one of these cases. Understanding that we can spend trillions to lower the amount of mercury or lead by a miniscule amount helps us understand why there is a limit to how low you can feasibly reduce mercury.

I have graduated from the US Naval Nuclear power school, and I have seen nothing that Ramshutu has claimed that could be construed as inaccurate.

Cold water accidents are the worst kind of accidents which can lead to a steam explosion with high particulate. Loss of pressurizer bubble would be the second worst leading to a steam explosion with less particulate.

The video does not discount the dangers of nuclear waste, it simply states fatalities compared to fossil fuel waste and solar panel waste and puts them in perspective by comparison. Are the comparisons accurate?

Why are you such a small person to resort to personal attacks in the science forum? Childhood abuse? Really I don't care. If I asked for ad-homs instead of an analysis, I would have called you a bunch of pejoratives before I started this thread.

Anyway I'll just wait for a real reply. Not a reply filled with a bunch of "you"

I'm not going to be able to defend that position. What I can defend is that they have demonstrated enough uncertainty to significantly affect their ratings since the Mueller report came out. And that is certainly not Trump's fault for having a report stating there was no collusion.

Not all of these fake news stories got a retraction. When a network gets the news wrong more than 20 times in the span of a few years, how are retractions supposed to inspire consumer confidence? How many times do you get to say "oops" before diminishing returns sets in?

What is fake news?

Good question. While I think other criteria may be in play, I think the core of fake news relies on no corroboration, anonymous or false sources, and grand speculation. Also saying you have evidence for something when you do not have evidence is fake news, for example..Schiff said repeatedly he saw evidence of Collusion, yet never revealed that evidence.

I don't think people are making funny fake-news montages on youtube solely, or even partly because of trump rhetoric. The actual clips from the biased news media are hilarious on their own, especially the clips that do not age well. (you know, the fake and totally inaccurate apocalyptic predictions)

Don't you believe in a free society that we should hold fake news accountable? Is unscrutinized propaganda okay as long as you agree with it? (even if you are ultimately proven wrong too as they were)

The ratings fluctuations seem to think that fake news and fake narratives should be held accountable, especially considering the recent ratings drop after the 2 year collusion narrative crashed and burned.

I'd agree it would be alarming if the rhetoric matched the outcomes, but with Trump that isn't always the case, so you need to take a lot of his rhetoric with a grain of salt and focus on his actions. For example, his recent actions in Syria demonstrates his actions toward non-interventionist where long drawn out proxy wars are avoided and military presence is kept to the absolute minimal.

This means we can expect Trump to have similar actions toward Venezuela, regardless of the rhetoric. Simply by following actual policy trends and outcomes.

Yes, it seems Trump would be less likely to completely bow to whims of the military industrial complex than the previous career politicians. He seems to demonstrate that he will throw them a bone with budget increases, but refuse to give them the grand bonanza gift of another proxy war.

let's hope the trend continues.

Well you certainly won't convince me that noteing you agree on access to abortion which then makes you 3 degrees removed from a racist like Richard Spencer who also has the same belief is not a really pointless thing to be fixated on. Is race baiting and victimhood really part of the social hierarchy among millennials now? Is this the endgame to identity indoctrination in what passes for curriculum these days?

Well don't let me stop you from making gross generalizations of people you do not agree with. Like I said, I guess it's just a popular thing with millenials to do that, putting people into neat baskets for disposal.

Not arbitrary. It is based on words that have meaning and I simply call people for what they are. I don't make my own arbitrary palettes. I instead use ones that are already in place and are helpful.
Now this is actually very interesting. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/433612270351995268/

Roughly what shade grants victimhood and which exact shade grants privilege? I'd like to know the objective standard being taught in what passes for "education" these days.

. I wonder why. Maybe you afraid of actually owning up to what you are pretty much agree white nationalists on.

It's not cowardly..it is just insane to equate melanin color with a person's utility to society.

Where would you arbitrarily draw up the palette?

Why do you have to see things in terms of melanin or assume anyone who disagrees with you has a melanin fixation? That is just such a weird thing to have drilled into your head at an early age. Is racebaiting really that popular these days with millennials? Elevated status from race baiting and playing the hip victim?

Lol just for fun I went to the wiki page for Spencer ( I actually know little of this guy other than he is an admitted racist) to see if i agreed with any of his views.

Most everything he believes is either inconsistent or insane, but we both do agree that America should be much less interventionary in shithole countries like Iraq even if it is not for the same reasons. Similarly we both agree on access to abortion even if it is not for the same reasons.

I saw that page as well. As I predicted, that page includes the fake media narratives as well as count discrepancies. A bee fart is a scandal on that page.

Exactly. If MSM does not report it, then it's not a scandal. Also...if we go by the sheer number of "scandals" it most certainly won't be objective as MSM lists one scandal as when Trump had 2 scoops of ice cream while everyone else had one (yes that was a real news story)..

Let's not even talk about the number of fake scandals the MSM created to overthrow Trump. MSM handed out Pulitzer prizes to themselves simply for pushing the fake collusion narrative. Viva la resistance!

Lists 61 serious scandals, nothing to do with ice cream counts or crowd size counts but rather loss of human life etc...
