Debate me!
-->
@Tejretics
I've not done an online debate since DDO. I am potentially interested in the following;

Gentrification does more harm than good.
The U.S. should ban fracking.

I would imagine not, though I dont imagine that the shut down would last long if they did go on a strike.

In the Event of Another Government Shutdown

From the article: "We should encourage our hard-working members of the TSA, the ATC, our flight attendants and pilots, and even the ground crews to go on strike if our incompetent government puts us through yet another pointless shutdown. "

What are your thoughts? Should government employees work without pay? How would you feel if they went on strike?

I'm just saying that inferring that the 36% from the survey don't know geography or about current events because they disagree with you is asinine.

BTW it is unclear why I should care that your roommate is from Venezuela or that he thinks I am dumb.

In anycase, it seems you are more open to trolling on this website then in times past. Long time no see.

Socialism: The New American Dream
"Staggering inequality and lack of social mobility have had a clear impact on how society views capitalism. In a recent poll, 36% of registered voters think the U.S. should move toward socialism and away from capitalism."

Racism, Sexism, and Homophobia: A Response to Steven Pinker
“An axiom of progressive opinion, Especially in universities, Is that we continue to live in a deeply racist, Sexist, And homophobic society—which would imply that progressivism is a waste of time, Having accomplished nothing after decades of struggle. " (Pinker, Enlightenment Now)

I can hardly believe someone as brilliant as Pinker could make such a statement. The observation that we live in a deeply racist, Sexist and homophobic society does not imply that we have made no progress. Nor could it be inferred from such a position that progressivism is a waste of time. Logical fallacies aside, It seems to me that racism, Sexism, And homophobia are still the norm. That is to say, Each occur frequently in our society; enough so that Pinker"s causal congratulating of societal equality strikes me as pre-mature.

The Oversimplification of Political Ideology
-->
@triangle.128k
It is a fair point that the expectation of everyone to understand the nuance of political ideology is unreasonable. I do not think this justifies oversimplification. I’d settle for the average joe accepting that there is nuance even if they don’t understand it. This seems reasonable to me. I understand basic physics, but not rocket science. Am I then justified in oversimplifying the topic? Further, can I then claim that those who disagree with my positions on it are wrong? I think not. Nobody is an expert in everything. Nor need they to be.

The Oversimplification of Political Ideology
Have you ever gone to lunch and had a hard time deciding between burgers, sandwiches, or tacos? If so, I hope your political opinions are at least as complex as deciding where to go to lunch. Politics is not a heads or tails coin toss; it is not progressive or conservative and yet we often present issues that way. Bret Weinstein recently did this.
What do you think? Is there an Oversimplification of Political Ideology? If so, how does this shape conversations about politics?
