Global Warming Breaks July Records

@zedvictor4
Except the little ice age was a smaller change that happened over a longer period of time.

We also know what caused it, solar activity and extra volcanoes... it wasnt some cycle, it wasnt the much slowler 1000s years real ice age. It was specific events.

This time its also natural. A specific animal is producing too much of something. Nature has ways to balance those out, lets try to do it ourselves before nature kills us.

Minimum wage
-->
@Athias
Ill gladly supply some examples, but do you really think the largest economy in the world with many different industries intersect, has only 2 basic, economics 101, factors?

First factor is need. In supply vs demand freshman class you learn that if you raise the price too high, people will stop buying. Sounds simple, except for markets like medicine. When it comes to your life, like with insulin but also many other medications, who cares about money. You will pay anything. So price setting goes out the window. There are other examples of this, like transportation. there is a big gap in upfront cost between transportation and vehicle ownership, which leaves alot of room for unjustified price gouging. People need to get to work.
You will say competition will solve this, but in the real world competitors can communicate, and collude. This has happened before until the government made it illegal. Competition is the friend of capitalism, but the enemy of capitalists (owners).

Another problem is also need, but from the perspective of workers. I think history has proven people will work under some terrible conditions if they dont have options. So claiming some invisible hand will set the right wages might work in a mom and pop tiny economy where there are nearly as many bosses as workers.... but not in the modern goliath economy. Low wage workers are given few options, even while doing crucial, heavy work simply because there are a ton of other workers. The value of their work means nothing if the value of the worker is zero. I dont think citizens of the richest nation in the world should be treated this way, nor will this sustain a consumer driven economy.

So In essence, the extra factors involve greed and opportunity. Not a market opportunity for a in demand product, but the opportunity to skew the supply demand curve away from people without power, like the sick and the laborers.

Minimum wage
Im with the dems that we need a minimum wage. Cause supply and demand are subject to many more variables and the invisible hand is nonsense.

But a flat nation wide 15 is insane. It would work great for cities, but it would decimate rural communities with much lower cost of living, and much smaller economies.

I love this show. I get so hyped over it. Do you love it too? Wanna get hyped, especially after/before release? It certainly had humble beginnings, but looking back, this was one heck of an epic adventure.

Your opinions on Elder Scrolls Online
Super interesting mechanics and level up system, very unique. But what is getting me the most curious, and concerned, is the level scaling of zones.

Pretty much all zones and enemies, and im assuming dungeons, scale to your level. That sounds awesome at first, i can go anywhere... but eventually wont the game feel monotone with enemies always being a set difficulty relative to you? And are they always so easy?

Im not sure if this will help.or hurt the playability of the game long term, ignoring the story writing for now. What do you think?

What is your favorite TV show?
The good place. Definitely watch that show.

I didnt think they would keep the premise interesting for as many seasons as they did, but they definitely did! Sucb good plot twists for a light hearted dark comedy.

Im enjoying elder scrolls online quite a bit. Not to deep into it yet. Just trying to get through the main story. Kinda treating it like a single player more then an mmo.

Any CrunchyRoll Anime suggestions?
Long form:
Naruto
Hunter x Hunter
Bleach, but only til the end of the soul society arc. Top tier show til then, then it starts to drop.

Short series:
Cowboy bebop
Hellsing ultimate (and its youtube abridged series)
Outlaw star
Log horizon

Movies:
Redline
Berserk golden age trilogy

Manga:
*One piece. Amazing show, anime has some major flaws and takes some getting used to, but once your hooked its the best show of any format or genre. All about that world building. Manga is superior.

Berserk. Anime old anime uses too many still frames and new anime is garbage cgi. Manga is superior and far ahead.

Gantz. Amazing show that gets better with every arc til the apocalyspe. Anime stops at the first really good arc ans then ends it with a terrible arc that was never in the manga.

In defence of credit cards
Credit cards are amazing. I dont buy anything extra but anything i do buy goes on a card. Free money.

+ the occasional no interest for x months cards

Store cards are useless unless you are really devoted (before you get the card)

Trump Claims He is the Chosen One

@Christen
It isnt about the size of the state, but how much of its populations live in cities.

Rural new york and california are Republican.
Urban Texas is democratic.

Removing the electoral system (college is the group of electors that do the real vote) would allow cities to rule over country. The state wouldnt matter. Although i think that the idea that we are a union of states as opposed to the United States is an archiac one that needs to be discarded.

@Tradesecret
Forgive me, but can you define the different theories of free market capitalism? I understood it as simply anything goes as long as its making profit.

Which form of communism/socialism do you think is the intended form? (Government vs community based)?

The U.S. National debt in detail
Obama doubled it in a time of crisis to get us out. His last years in office shrunk the deficit substantially. Comparing the numbers without looking at how and why is dishonest.

minimum wage should be almost 12 dollars

@Christen
Most poor people arent buying gold chains. Thats music videos. Ideally they would save for retirement, but most often then have spendings they need to make now. Paying off any debt, fixing the car, air conditioning, medication, school supplies, household maintenance. They have current needs that are themselves investments far more valuable then a 401k. Certainly people must think for/of themselves, but as a society we have to make sure our economy is sustainable. I dont understand your issue with that.

Being poor has many difficulties. Long travel times for low wage work means most of their day is killed with minimal gain. They are short on time, and short on money, making every minor decision a triage prioritization scenario. Being under constant stress and forced to constantly make decisions based on massively low resources leads to decision fatigue and bad choices. Its hard to claim personal failing in a situation where most people would fail as well.

54 dollars an hour is mathematically ridiculously unnecessary, especially assuming 2 income household. Even in the big cities. Regardless, if your a business, if more customers are walking through the door there is no way in heck you are cutting back on staff or hours.

My proposed immigration requirements

@Greyparrot
Are you by some chance talking about the 4 or so 3rd world dictatorships that call themselves communist and ignoring the hundreds of capital friendly 3rd world countries?

Also the government isnt supposed to create jobs, its supposed to create laws and maintain the economy. It's the referee, not the player. Every game has rules and rules need to be enforced.

You are assuming alot about this argument. We are talking about the minimum wage, not elimination of private sector. My argument that demand creates supply, is entirely rooted in capitalism and doesnt make sense in any context you are arguing about. Please return to the topic.

1. How do you quote? I see no quote button. Sorry, new here.

2. What do you mean 3rd world nations abhor private capital? That makes no sense. They are desperate for any capital that doesnt come with pride destruction, and many times they take money regardless. They are by definition, in desperate need of money, both privately and publically.

The reason they cant enforce those laws is because they dont have functioning governments. Governments enforce those laws. Not because of some inexplicable hate of money! Im sorry, you totally lost me.

It certainly is creating demand. Emerging markets are rapidly growing... but they are still poor. Capital does not create demand, life does.

What capital does is it realizes demand, and it that sense i agree. You do need capital to realize demand, but to my point, that capital needs to be in the hands of those with the demand, aka the consumer. A higher minimum wage is one way to boost the consumer.

I would lean more your way if companies were struggling, but the economy has been booming and the big companies have only been growing in profitability (til very recently), and executive/shareholder payouts have been going up. I understand its not in their individual short term interest to pay workers more, but as their saving grow, more money sits uncirculated as more people with a need to spend are unable to act on their demand. An economy cannot survive without demand. Supply follows demand, very rarely does supply create demand, unless its a lack of supply, like diamonds, which is not the argument you are making.

Also 3rd world nations lack the ability to enforce rule of law for loans, contracts, intellectual property, and consumer reassuring safety standards. Aka *regulations*.

The most important factor in minimum wage should be the cost of living. $15 may not be enough in a big city even if you are single and frugal. However $12 in rural west virginia will allow a sizable family to live like kings.

The quanitity of consumers,  and increase in spending, can make a large minimum wage functional in a city, but it will absolutely destroy small rural economies. Its also conpletely unnecessary in those low cost regions.

While i wholeheartedly support a minimum wage, a flat 15 nation wide, or even 12, is silly, and hopefully just an oversimplified talking point.

#2 doesnt make sense. Immigrants dont just take jobs, they create jobs via demand. A bigger population is not bad for the economy. The migrants need more food, housing, stuff. That means more farms, more food, more factories, more work all around. The idea that they are taking YOUR job is cherry picked political spin that doesnt follow the logic to its conclusion but stops where it is convenient.

1. Watches are made of inert metals. They are big atoms with their nucleus far from the external environment. They do not react, so no, an i phone, a watch, a car, etc, will not form on its own.

However, you take a bunch of highly reactive, upper right hcorner of the periodic table elements, and put them into a solute like water, input some energy (the sun, lightning, volcano heat, geothermal heat), and complexity will inevitably come out (given enough time.).

Does "race" exist?
-->
@Stronn
The scientific reason for dismissing race is very much based on science and not politics. It is not based off just "geographic origin". It is based off the difference in DNA between races vs within races. Aside from a few phenotype differences like skin color, the genetic code between races is nearly identical. There are more differences between olympic athelets (of all races) and the rest of us, then there are differences by race.

The reason even a child can tell races are different is because races are classified based on observable *superficial* differences, rather then objective overall differences. Much like how our categorizing of species changed drastically when we changed from simple external observation to genetic comparisons.

The genetic differences.between races are utterly insignificant, and that is why scientists dismiss race. The pc spin is just your own politicized opinion rather than anything objective. Looking up any serious article on this subject would have made this point clear.
