Euphoria doesn't necessarily accompany a religious experience. Fear and terror can too.

THE TALEBIAN PARADOX
-->
@3RU7AL
Taleb would argue, on the basis of the precautionary principle, that religious ideas that have been useful for thousands of years (Lindy Effect), and would be better arbitrators of truth than personal rationality or new moral ideas. But at the same time, religion is only accepted because it survived, while other belief systems that would have been equally valid did not survive. How do we reconcile survivorship bias with the precautionary principle in the case of religion?

1. Precautionary Principle: a broad epistemological, philosophical and legal approach to innovations with potential for causing harm when extensive scientific knowledge on the matter is lacking.

2. Lindy Effect: a theory that the future life expectancy of some non-perishable things like a technology or an idea is proportional to their current age, so that every additional period of survival implies a longer remaining life expectancy. Where the Lindy effect applies, mortality rate decreases with time.

3. Survivorship Bias: the logical error of concentrating on the people or things that made it past some selection process and overlooking those that did not, typically because of their lack of visibility. This can lead to false conclusions in several different ways. It is a form of selection bias[**]
The think in most of the religions that have survived adapted to changing morals. Slavery, human sacrifice, even things like a city having to give food or taxes to a maintained temple (Greece)  and such are not longer part of religions that have survived. When you look at Taoism and Confucianism and Buddhism they never had or addressed these less moral practices in the core beliefs so they have survived almost unchanged. Even if the concepts of soul/spirit or deity have changed it hasn't changed how one lives the practice. They also never gave power to a human figurehead who made sure laws were followed and sins were punished.  When you look at say Heathenism which is cool to watch on shows like Vikings there isn't large human/animal sacrifices made today in that religion  and it's deemed to be ok by the gods who once demanded it. So he may be right in that  most ancient religions are gone or shifted to modern principles (non violence) stay active. The only ones to survive as they originally practiced were/ are non violent.

This doesn't seem to be any different then the golden rule other than you seem to think care is important. The care part also seems to give it a selfish aspect. Like I might need you one day so I'll be nice, not I will be nice to you cause I want people to be nice to me. It's not kosher in some way. Can't put my finger on it. I guess because caring doesn't imply taking care of someone.  Plenty of wife beaters take care for their spouse when not beating them.

Religious Experience after reading scripture or other religious material
I can only say in my experience that spirits or the dead come through as a feelings or images. Same for land spirits. We do mediumship exercises and you get a quick image of a room or flower, you might smell a smell. Maybe some static electricity on your skin.  If you know the person you might feel they are around. Just like when you know a certain person if walking around the house. You recognize the sound of their walking.  Guides have appeared as solid people. Usually very quick. I have met three guides and have only two names. But you many not get names either. Gods are different in that they create in a change in air around your body. You feel what I can only call a pressure in your chest and you feel like your not where you are physically.  Sometime it stops at the feeling but I have seen gods. Specifically Jesus, Odin, Holda and Mani. Sometimes what I saw matches others sometimes it doesn't. I don't expect my experience to be like someone else's. People can take the information as they will. I don't use drugs to induce visions so I can trust them more but that doesn't mean much to anyone either, it's just my personal preference. I would one day love to do a group experience like a sauna or sweat lodge kinda thing.

Religious Experience after reading scripture or other religious material
I have never had one from reading but during meditations I have had some weird stuff happen that has left me disoriented, euphoric, feeling out of body, that kind of thing. YOu have to sort of ground back into your body.

" I’m a cop of 20 years service & ex soldier and I'm done".
When you go through the Criminal Justice programs in colleges you are not warned or educated on the politics of the system. It was basically during my internship I found out how much getting reelected plays in what you do in court. Chief of Police, Sherriff, Judges, Prosecutors are all elected and getting reelected is priority.  That is why once a Judge gets on the Supreme Court their politics seem to change, no more pleasing the constituents. Jon Oliver who I don't really like does a great segment on this show about Judges and elections. But it all bleeds down to the guys on the street whether cops, probation or parole. Don't even get me started on DHHR.

I have always felt that being a police officer, EMT or fireman is a calling. To see someone decide to give up on that is sad. The complaints are well stated and legitimate. Bad cops like bad priests ruin it for the people in it for the good they can do to serve their community. I work with lots of law enforcement. They are basically there to help the community. People forget they often deal with drug addicts, violent criminals, domestic situations and child endangerment. The issues right now are more training bad ideas than bad cops. This was well written. I hope people take time to read the whole thing.

In quote --bottom of page--  of my prior comments, think of triangular love as a 3 finger mind-meld by Spock.

As for figure-head;
...1} president, premire, czar, prince, king queen, father, mother,

....2} sum of existence, ALL that exists,

.....3} All that exists plus what is beyond what exists ---ergo and irrational, illogical lack of common sense belief  practiced by some Biblical based religions/theology etc---

.Ebuc..........2c} the act of  love i.e. to triangulate  a set of relationships that fixate { focus } on specific target, biologic, or not, thereby creating an opening/portal  between our heart-as-soul, and, the environment outside of our heart-as-soul  ergo an inherent twoness involement via triangular set of inter-relationships.

I think the definition is lacking. America is not a religion.  I don't disagree with number three or the quote, other than it's not religion.

What actually is belief?

Other than a word that vaguely describes an individuals data output relative to their conditioned state of mind.

Abraham Hicks:

A belief is only a thought I keep thinking.
A belief is only a thought that I continue to think.
A belief is only my habit of thought.
It’s only a practiced thought.
A belief is only a thought that I think a lot.

They don't technically bless divorced couples  who remarry. Fortunately you don't need the church to have a legal marriage.

Matters of waste of time
I certainly believe we can investigate our self by how we interact with others.  But in the end introspection is going inward not outward.  If we base ourselves on others we are never our self but what you think people want us to be.  The more you know about yourself and your actions the more you can understand where others actions are coming from. It's sort of the basis for shadow work. How you react to others says something about your subconscious . If you start to identity what makes you tick you can see those things in others.

A problem for the Ontological Argument
-->
@secularmerlin
IF spiritual = some emotional brainstates THEN there is perfectly logical explanation for it which is the interactions of biology and chemistry within the brain itself.

Everything is in the human body. Doesn't mean your not reacting to an outside force. Just like love is a reaction to a person. Still all biology and chemistry.

How do you determine the difference between something "spiritual" and just something?
How do you determine the difference between someone who loves their spouse and someone who just like and respects their spouse. Both may look like love but one is missing and element they other has. If an experience feels spiritual it is. If it feels like life it's probably not. Just like you can watch sunsets over and over and one evening you feel small or get overwhelmed with emotion or sense a stronger than usual connection to the Earth. It's as small as that most times. Other times it's like being smacked in the face. You know if your in a spiritual experience.

I am not sure you not wanting to suffer is related to you not wanting others too. I think you don't want to suffer cause it sucks and ruins how you function. I had anxiety with attacks where you can't breathe and have unrealistic fears.  I started meditation but still suffered from negative internal dialog. Shadow work finally stopped that but there is not issue with needing meds far as I am concerned. Diabetics need them, if you do too that's ok. But if you want a long term out from meds. You need a deeper practice or therapy. I hope you are doing therapy and not just popping meds. Meds don't cure the problem they just stop symptoms.

When does mortal life really begin?
When you say mortal life I think of the possibility of dying which can happen any time after conception. If you mean when is one considered living, or the soul enters the body I say at birth or shortly thereafter. Medically or legally there are other criteria.

Making fun of religion
You have to keep in mind that gender is sometimes given to a god or goddess due to the attributes the god has. For instance in the Norse myths the sun is feminine due to the healing nature of heat and sunlight on plant grown, thawing ice, fever and saunas. The moon was considered masculine for it's time keeping with moon phases and tide movement. Not to mention the hidden nature of the moon and men being less emotional then women. So the gods assigned to those bodies are representative of the attributes. Most creation gods are masculine. Not sure why since women give birth other then in most cases they use earthly substance to make people with Earth being the feminine component to the equation. Clay in this case being the woman part of the creation to the God of Abraham masculine. Most involved in gnostic paths do view the Holy Spirit as the feminine representation of the God of Abraham. The problem today is goddesses are viewed as pagan. Giving the Holy Spirit a gender is not  monotheism in that context.  Even though in all honesty it doesn't effect God's standing as a monotheist deity.

Essential oils are not for ingesting but when put in a diffuser the smell can relax you and they have carrier oil mixes that are safe for skin if you want to roll on the oil.

I take Vitamin D for my bones but I have never noticed a mood enhancement from it. I would say ask your dr to add it to your next blood work and see if you really need it. Don't know if you have a local place that offers Floats but they are amazing.  I do one very two weeks.

Women when they get beaten
I think the punishment for assault is way too strict though.  Maybe make it a few days in prison if the victim recovers in 30 seconds.

Assault Penalties, Punishments, and Sentences (freeadvice.com) states the current penalty is up to a year.
Most courts take that into consideration. If you smack someone and have no real record you will probably get probation or 30 days. If they have an  injury but not a serious one you might get the year. Domestic Violence which is what is being addressed here you could have a protective order for months and no guns forever. There are definitely disconnects.

If I slap someone, they are hurt for 30 seconds.  Somehow, if I do that, I end up in jail for 3 months.  I think that is cruel and unusual punishment.
You have no right to slap anyone.  And if you are getting three months you are not a first time offender.

Does the Rabbi Have a Good Point?
-->
@Stephen
It has to do with the trinity in the case of it leading to incest. You seem to think no one was going to notice that is the Rabbi's issue, the incest. Not God and Jesus are  father and son. Don't get mad at me your topic is silly and just to provoke Christians. The Bible is full of say one thing do another. God has little issue with incest it seems since those he chooses engage in it with little punishment. Jesus being no exception.

When the creator takes someone out, it's not murder, it's just a change of location. He created us, so he can do what he wants with us.

That is like saying cause you have a child you should get to abuse them or kill them. A benevolent creator would work in a moral arena within natural law.  If your gods view you as a chess piece to amuse them you have the wrong gods.

How can gender be inherent and a construct at the same time?
Demonstrate how? You mean demonstrate what masculinity and femininity are in all mammalian species due to hormones and chromosomes or do you mean demonstrate how this applies to politics?

The disagreement between the sides lies in two things:
  1. Conservatives generally believe that fundamentally men are meant to be masculine and women feminine vice versa.
  2. Liberals/Progressives are wanting legal enforcement, backing and recognition of males who are so feminine they feel that they are genuinely a woman in terms of their role in the social landscape and females who feel so masculine that they essentially are men. This is where the genuine disagreement lies much more than #1 because Conservatives and Right-Wing Libertarians tend to be willing to compromise a lot on #1 whereas #2 is the true cause of the debate happening at a government level.
I realize not all case fit a mold but the only trans person I know personally is super pro Trump conservative. She is not only trans but identities as lesbian.  It surprised me. My best guess is she is fairly comfortable in herself and choices as far as that all goes she's not worried about it, doesn't feel repressed or hindered. But as a gun owner, tax payer and prepper/bushcrafter she feels the government intrudes on her choices and freedoms.

Would a Human Clone Have a Soul?
Not a Abrahamic monotheist but I would imagine if your born in a traditional way you have a soul and spirit.  We once had a discussion on test tube babies being off. Someone mentioned it in meditation group and someone else agreed. Both work in the medical field.  Energetically they come across as weird.  The people said they were nice kids but off somehow. Perhaps cloned people would be the same since they would have to be conceived outside the womb. I remember we thought it might have to do with the lack of mother sounds. Heart beat, darkness, body fluids, etc. Too sterile cause almost a detachment that wasn't as severe as once born and there is not input sensory wise for a child.
