The IOU's I am proposing are not divisional units of a country's wealth. It isn't money.
so what do they do?

No, because 98/100 correlation is over 0.9 r^2 in terms of pearson's coefficient, implying a causal relationship. IQ is a standard normal distribution with high variance so your example is irrelevant.

Can Music Be Evil?

The unpleasantness is why many cultures associate it with evil. It's ugly and undesirable. Why would anyone associate it with their ideas of good?

I get how it works now, it's a popularity contest.
Inductions inevitably fall to a vote, so yes, that's how it is.

if you're talking about why discordance is discordant across cultures, that's because perception of pitch is biological and completely irrelevant to your upbringing. The human brain does not naturally consider a diminished 5th aesthetically superior to a perfect 5th.

It's illegal to incite violence, presumably it's evil as well.
Using music to incite violence would be evil.

Black people are more likely to be rapists, but if you're talking to one black guy you have no way of knowing if hes a rapist or not because that statistic is an aggregate statistic. Similarly, when IQ tends to associate with success, you can still pick out individuals who are hugely successful despite their IQ. You won't notice it on an individual level as correlations only appear when you sum thousands of cases.

hmm good points on both sides. Unfortunately you're all wrong. We should not have a HoF until people have had opportunities to make tangible contributions to the site. I don't think it makes sense to induct someone just for being a member. Wait until things start happening then open the floor to this discussion.

Avengers: Infinity War - Movie/Comic Comparison - Predictions - SPOILERS!
oh oh oh someone goes into the past and shoots Star Lord before he bloody screws over everyone in the Titan battle. Spoiderman successfully yanks the gauntlet and everyone lives happily ever after, except for starlord (bcuz fuck starlord).

@drafterman
1. At some point, Thanos loses possession of the gauntlet
And I bet it won't be spoiderman yanking it off after magically reassembling from dust. Imo someone with a heavy american accent organises a strike force of misfits to take him out and against all odds they.. lose. But not before they find out some dark secret which they send to the past before thanos snapped his fingers thus allowing the heroes to win the battle on titan. Disaster is averted before it begins.

2. Nebula will wield the gauntlet at some point.
The comics were before my time, so idk anything about them.

3. Tony will wield the gauntlet at some point.
I think there will be a hot potato game with thanos in the middle at some point.

4. The fate of the gems is unclear.
I think we'll be led to believe they are destroyed or lost permanently, but then some after credits scene undoes everything by implying they are still around.

Yes. He believes a mod should do nothing, like AirMax, and as I fear, you do too.
nah. "a moderator should have no further role than enforcing the ToS"

this site belongs to mike so it's his prerogative what he does. A mod does not and should not have the same rights as mike, as mods are users just like you and me. Their ideas on how the site should run are enforceable insofar as we agree they should be, that right does not exist on it's own.

@drafterman
Then I question the idea of having a specific moderation style at all. If the moderator simply enforces the ToS, no more, no less, then there is no sense in having a moderation style. Either they enforce the ToS, or they step down as a mod.
Style reflects the complexity of having a black and white rule for behaviours that come in all shades of grey. It's not always clear if something is going too far or not. Ethang for example calls all the atheists from the religious forums trolls and if he had his way they'd all be banned and the religious forum would have no atheists. I think we can agree that is too far, and conversely "leave the religious forum to itself" is probably too little. Having an individual to solve ambiguity is a matter of competency and methodology ie style imho.

In the end we just need people we can trust with whatever issue we create.

a moderator should have no further role than enforcing the ToS, just like police have no further role than enforcing the law. We had an agreed upon system of shared norms that for a time allowed members to directly attack other members. That was changed and the changes were enforced by Airmax. From then on Drama.org died permanently and was never seen or heard from again.

The mod should not be the one who determines what the ToS is, that needs to be a standard of shared norms. If we all agree that ad hominems are not allowed, then that is what defines what the mod does. Drama.org lasted for so long because that is what a lot of members wanted from DDO. Airmax was actually proactive in making the changes that caused imabench to make that 'im leaving ddo because of the stupid rules' thread several years back.

two good mods, very nice.

I think the laissez-faire moderation style is important because most disputes between members can reasonably be resolved by the members in question. If you start policing interactions too heavily you just foster the perception of blatant power abuse and everyone loses faith in the system. Ethang is most definitely wrong on this matter because the majority of the members he wanted banned on DDO were just people he disagreed with, with exceptions like hari who were clearly messed up in the head.

The correct word here would be “participate”, not “partake”.
participate does not capture the ritualistic nature of the rites we perform here. I like partake.

Yah, that's not a game I would participate in.
Forced lynching is a valid style of game design. There's a mode where the length of dp is uncompromising, and once the timer runs out the person with the most votes dies. It's called plurality and is useful if town wants to organise a double lynch. It can also backfire spectacularly and that's where the fun comes in.

After harder goes the next best lead is on me, and i was vt so no real way for me to avoid the noose. After i go,  town would be down to random lynching. No reason to not let the harder mislynch happen imo

I think lazy play deserves to be punished, even though im talking to myself here. But greys decision to waive was actually a good scum play given i was intent on lynching harder. Hilarious that his motive was against his wincon.

I think slighting the mod should be discussed in endgame. It happened to me twice in the last game I modded, when sociopinko or whatever his name was accused me of bastardry and again when I mod killed yyw for being a jerk one too many times. The game still goes on regardless and everyone else has a good time. I don't support mod interference based on mod pride. This imo is going to far as a reaction to an opinion that virt is entitled to hold. He literally did nothing wrong, so imo just shrug off his opinion if it triggers you and carry on.

If the town arrive at a faulty conclusion that's the towns fault. Nothing game breaking there. You didn't do anything game breaking either. The godfather slip was really mundane, probably the smallest mistake a mod can make. It seems virts view that budda lacked integrity is what triggered budda to end the game

Yeah lol the moment RMs flip said mafia were also sports I knew I we were probably going to have to scum hunt again. Didn't have the motivation though so I stayed on harder. I had some paranoia about grey when he suggested it was good to vote him because he was inactive, when an uninformed would only be voting scum but I doubt I'd have followed it up. What made you paranoid about me? :)

Ironically, ending the game over an accusation of poor integrity would be poor integrity. I think it was all fine otherwise. Vaarka's advice was sage tier, a bit of chill is sometimes necessary.

I honestly thought budda was drunk posting.

I don't see what the fuss is about. Vaarka posted godfather by mistake, but that's it? Unless I'm missing something, nothing game breaking has happened..

@Greyparrot
I asked Budda and he said that he was holding up the night phase to let Harder participate. Obviously if he didn't have a role there wouldn't be a reason to wait for him to do anything. So he has a role of some sort. I also asked if he would get waived if he didn't show up, the response was yes. Here we have Harder who didn't show up in the night, and one role which was waived: the NK.

1 + 1 = Harder is scum.
