That being said, I have no problem accepting 'goddidit' is a common explanation regarding magnificent or frightening aspects of nature, but I dont accept that means we 'have a god shaped hole' in our head or hearts.
OK. If this so, why do we seem to always want to plug that hole with a God shaped stopper?
I am not so much making an argument, as asking why?

Do you deny that most societies have come up with a God story? Of course it is also cultural, the question is, why?

I can see you're angry, but that has nothing to do with this site. How has he "profited"? Is he now rich?
He did NOT advertise on DDO. The links you provided were of me telling everyone of his site. He did not even know I was doing it. He posted only when people began asking about his site.
Your suspicions are not fact, and it is unfair of you to besmirch the character of this sites creator with no evidence but your hurt ate Airmax.
And Juggle was not "humiliated", they may only be vaguely aware of DDO's issues. If you don't get over your past hurts, they will cause you to be banned again. This is a new site. Different management.
Leave all that old stuff behind.

The characters inability to learn from their mistakes was what was compelling to me. I know people like that.

Why do you think humans seem to need a God story?
We're story-oriented creatures. We want answers, narrative, causality. Reasons and explanations. We want something to believe in, and tales that inspire.
But why do we need something to believe in?

Well, you're talking about God. I'm asking about a God story. Once the society has a story, how close or how far individuals are to personal belief in the God is irrelevant.
And though richer societies move away from belief in God, they do not move away from the God story. Did you see any of the funeral of Stephen Hawking? Officiated by clergy, held on church property, and spiritual references abounded.

The overwhelming number of DDO members are not posters. They either just read or never visit the site after creating their account. We had about 300 active members, but had more that 4,000 member accounts.
Give the guy a break. He didn't even advertise on DDO. We found him. I'm on DI but I'm leaving the site, the design is way too troublesome. It isn't worth the trouble, and the site is bandwidth intensive thus slow.
Stick around here, but if your conspiracy theory bones ache too much, find a place you like. But no one likes being publicly accused on only weak suspicion.

If you send out an mass email, do it bcc so that trolls like bully or 21st did not get the email addresses of others.
Most members of DDO check the working sticky threads from time to time.

Yeah, I was surprised at that. The British version sucked.

Sigh.
I am not arguing for its validity, but if you claim cultures are happier without a God story, then that means virtually every culture has willfully and persistently sought what made them unhappy!
And when you consider that they began at atheism, the state you say is happier, it becomes unbelievable that they all would move to what was less happy.
I don't think reality supports your claim.

False dichotomy. Some of the bible is literal and some of it is metaphorical. The bible though, is all true.

Yet that is exactly what many do with no sense of self-awareness at all. I think it's a western thing.

That would make the fact that virtually every culture has come up with a God story extremely curious wouldn't it?

You should check deeper into this story. It was debunked.

Hey PW,
I live in Ghana as you may know. They have animists and engage in ancestor worship here. In fact, much of their animism has fused with Christianity so that it has become neither.
But it is interesting to see people actually practise ancestral worship and really believe it.

@Outplayz
So then if you believe this, how do you account for atheists who say they (and humans) do not need a God story?
Created:

@secularmerlin
I believe the bible. I believe it because it is credible, and rings true to my sense of human nature and knowledge of life.
There are other reasons but those were my initial ones.

Since every culture has come up with God story, would it be correct to say that psychologically, humans need a God narrative?
I say yes, as even atheist seem to need it just as much as theists even if for different reasons.
Why do you think humans seem to need a God story?
