Hey new to this platform. I was just wondering how do I enter a challenge and become one of the debaters
Welcome to the site! This site is in desperate need of more womens' perspectives. You can initiate a new debate by hitting the + New Debate button in the upper right hand corner of the debate site, write a debate topic and wait for someone to accept your challenge or you can accept a debate formatted by somebody else that's labelled OPEN CHALLENGE. I would recommend reading a few different debates and getting a sense of winning styles/formats. Accepting a debate usually enjoys a bit of an edge over making your own debate. Good luck and enjoy!
Do you feel threatened by Novice_II in any way?
Well he's not much of a debater- I have yet to see him put together a properly formatted syllogism or even an original argument. I don't think we've ever communicated outside of debates so I guess the answer is no.

I'm not very handy but I've done a lot of drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics- won a few prizes. I've been on a team building a pedestrian bridge over a mountain stream. I've worked on crews building temporary movie theaters at Film Festivals. I've planted forests and gardens. I've worked a fair number of line cook and baking jobs- won best biscuits in Denver once. I've built a lot of servers and networks but there's not much creativity there. I've made a lot of little artifacts for dungeons and dragons games.

In your reply to Supa on 1/21/22, you stated that "I will not be engaging in any activity that involves moderation" yet you have 2 debates running and one open challenge. What led to the change of heart.
Mostly, I had promised to debate WF for my 100th and Ramshutu for my 101st debate. If I refused those debates it would seem like I was using my dissatisfaction with the rigged election as an excuse. You'll notice I challenged WF the next day. It comes down to wanting to sanction mods for running a blatantly corrupt election but not believing that there are willing members who would or could make an improvement on that role.

Sorry to say it, Sup but I feel quite raw and fucked over by your irresponsible misconduct in handling the election. You have made it clear that you are wiling to ignore the site's established and prevoted governmental processes and forego your Moderator's responsibilities to oversee such processes objectively in favor of pleasing your Discord friends. I no longer consider you or Whiteflame legit moderators for this site and I'd strongly encourage you both to resign your positions and offer a letter of apology to the DART community as soon as possible.
Until that happens, I consider the Moderation team compromised in terms of objectivity and accountability and will willingly express my lack of confidence in your ability to act as fair-minded, legitimate representatives of this site's interests or of my personal interests. Since you can't be trusted to moderate objectively or be held accountable to DART's MEEPs, I plan to avoid any activities that might require objective moderation until at least you and whiteflame are not moderators anymore. That includes voting, debating, mafia, etc. I promised whiteflame my 100th debate and have felt some concern about this site's capacity to objectively vote on such a debate. After your conduct of this election, I have zero confidence that I could win that debate no matter what the quality of my argument. Truly, Sup, I think you screwed the pooch on this one and betrayed the trust of the DART community. I'm on the fence over whether its worth even staying active on this site but don't look for a lot of participation from me while you remain a Mod. I'm not mad at you really, we can still talk on the forums, etc and I promise to be friendly to you as always but I'm very disappointed in your conduct here and I honestly don't think its fair for you to continue as a Moderator for this site, which I obviously love and enjoy.

I am new at debating and just got to know about this website how should I get started? and get better if you could give a few pointers?
I'm not really the PRO my position on the leaderboards suggests. I've never taken a real debate class or engaged in a real debate but I consider myself a writer who uses debate format to improve my extemporaneous writing skills.

I play lots of battle strategy games these days. My 10 year old nephew and I are on a Stronhold kick, attacking each other's castes. My favorite video games were both big first person wander arounds- GTA 3 San Andreas and Skyrim. Guess I get addicted to just running around for hours.

You can't have socialism without democracy, by definition. Socialism is when the people own the means of production. In any non-democracy, it cannot be fairly said that the people are allowed to control critical infrastructure. One would never mistake the USSR or Hitler's Germany as Socialism just because the Soviets and the Nazis called themselves socialists, right? I think America is already much more of a socialist democracy than is generally credited. Almost all of the Capitalist vs Socialist debate on this site seems rather mistaken to me. I think Capitalism and Socialism describe economic forces that must be balanced by Democracy.

If you had to pick a favourite fantasy or sci-fi book or series, what would it be?
Lord of the Rings- nothing else is close. my 3rd grade teacher read us the Hobbit and I was hooked. I’ve read it so many times that it just lives in my head.
Required reading in school, have there been any books that stand out in your memory, if so, why?
Hundreds. I read Lord of the Rings very young and that got me reading above my age. I read far less now than I did when I was ten or twenty.

I think you mean persistent. Relentless suggests a harsh and unforgiving nature- and that's not me.
Are there any YouTube channels you've particularly enjoyed in the past or present, If so why?
I don't spend much time on Youtube. I'll use it to play a song I want to hear immediately. I don't have live TV so I sometimes go to Youtube to see a clip of something in current events. I used to use it to watch TV shows I couldn't find anywhere else but YouTube really cracked down on that.

On balance, has capitalism been a successful economic doctrine?
For 20th century America? Most definitely. For 21st century automated interlinked World? I am skeptical. I think like Capitalism was the economist's response to Industrialization while Socialism was the economist's response to Democracy. Ultimately, Capitalism keeps advocating for winners and losers in a world where the losers will be harder and harder to suppress. We need an economic theory that ultimately values a sustainable model- the end goal is the healthy upbringing and education of the next seven generations to follow. Such a project is at odds with capitalism, that places little value one each generation's ultimate moral obligation of sustaining the species- our big picture point of being here.

I agree there is plenty of hypocrisy, but the main platform of the Dem party now seems to be high-expenditure policies like free college and healthcare. How can we be sure it won't just get even worse?
Yes, because we have to modernize.
Do we really need health insurance anymore? We see comparable countries who are able to provide comparable (better even) healthcare at half our cost. What do we have that they don't have? Health Insurance. Half our health cost goes to insurance and for what? Couldn't some good software manage most of the billing and wouldn't we rather just make heathcare decisions individually without getting our bosses and insurance bureaucrats involved? We need a government willing and able to take on this responsibility but then - if we get rid of health insurers, everybody but health insurers gets 10% of the economy back.

Challenge mostly. I'm sort of surprised by the victory and don't know what to make of it.
How do you have such internet connection in the southern cap of the world? How much did you pay for in Antartica for internet this good for solely logical entertainment?
I am actually in Denver, CO but I have a romantic attachment to Antarctica beginning with a big, beautiful French map of the continent that I acquired in my youth that used every imaginable shade of blue.
Denver is actually the hub of a lot of McMurdo & South Pole logistics so I know a few people who have spent a winter or two down there.
The last I heard, McMurdo's internet was super slow, like 17Mbs slow so emails and texts are fairly regular but gaming or sending videos gets in the way of station business and science which are the priority, so you have to schedule time for stuff like that. The internet is also expensive, like $3 per average email expensive but if you are at McMurdo its pretty much a given that USFG, Raytheon, or some major interest is paying your bills.

Not much. A bunch of my coworkers went to an All-Star Game where they handed out a beanie baby bear. The next day at work one guy sold his for $400.... he says they still aren’t worth close to that today. That’s pretty much all my beanie baby lore

Who is the most underrated debater on this site, in your opinion?
There’s a bunch. Ragnar, ramshutu, blamonkey, whiteflame, bsh1 should all be rated higher than me if there were any justice in the world. Ragnar and bsh1 beat me good on DDO years ago. Most underrated on the leaderboard right now has to be virtuoso. He is so generous and casual about conceding debates, even when he has obviously won the argument (and he always has the better argument) that his rating in no way reflects his talent.

definitely text. I love to write and think of myself as a good writer of prose and a bad poet. I would be terrible at verbal- my legs shake, I can't keep my thoughts straight. I would probably just fall apart.

I can't see it happening, tho. The higher my number goes the less people want to vote for me. I very nearly timed out on my latest Braveheart debate, Ragnar voted it with just hrs left. Even if I won all those debates (which, you know, just like the generic odds on winning 30 debates without a loss are still very low), I doubt they'll all get votes

I think u should add more headings- breaking the arguments down into obvious subsections. More definition of terms. Have you ever tried just writing out your argument in a simple 3 line syllogism and the proceeding from there?

When you're playing mafia, why do you always use all caps when saying a role in your posts? Curious but didn't want to clog the thread.
I experiment a lot with different type option, mostly trying to see what improves clarity of intent or conveys some richer meaning. In debates, I capitalize debate-specific subjects and objects like PRO, CON, THESIS, DEFINED TERMS, etc. I hope that makes it a little easier to go back and find a specific point but honestly I never get any feedback one way or another.
