Description

My view in this debate does not accurately represent my view in real life.

Round 1

I will waive this round and see what my opponent has got.

I must thank User_2006 for instigating this debate and I look forward to this friendly discussion.
First I must provide some definitions.

  1. Procreation is the act of reproduction, or the production of offspring
  2. Sexual intercourse is the act which results in production of offspring.
  3. Important means of great value or significance.

MY OPPONENT HAS NOT CLARIFIED IF THESE TERMS APPLY TO HUMANS OR ALL ORGANISMS. HENCEFORTH, I HAVE DECIDED HE MEANS THE LATTER.

My opponent has also not stated the Burden of Proof, I can only assume it to be on me, as I am PRO.

Since my opponent has not provided a solid structure for this debate, I shall list one below.
R1: Opening Statements/Possible Counters
R2: Rebuttals
If my opponent objects to this structure, I will gladly change it. Now I shall begin my argument.

  1. Natural Reasons Behind Reproduction
    1. Reproduction, before humans ever existed was a natural duty 2 beings or one being did, which resulted in the birth of offspring. It was the natural obligation of an organism to perform it. Without reproduction producing offspring, we wouldn’t be standing here today. These simple points can be demonstrated by using the simple “Premise-Premise-Premise-Conclusion” format.
Premise 1: Organisms must reproduce to survive.

Premise 2: Surviving is the most important thing to do if you want to stay alive. (Which is obvious.)

Premise 3: Reproduction occurs during or after sexual intercourse.

Conclusion: Reproduction is the most important use of sexual intercourse.

  1. Contentions Relating to Non-Human Organisms
    1. Several beings, such as insects, bats, and other creatures solely reproduce to continue their species. They do not reproduce for any other reason. They do not feel pleasure and do not run multi-million dollar underground sexual businesses. So, there is no other reason for them to have sex other than to reproduce, which proves that procreation is the most important use of sexual intercourse for these beings, as it is the only use for these beings.

CONCLUSION:
I have fulfilled my side of the burden of proof, by stating.
  1. It is more necessary for one to reproduce during sexual intercourse, than anything else that should occur at that time.
  2. Most creatures do not have anything to do with sexual intercourse, besides mating and giving birth.

THANK YOU VOTERS AND CON.

Round 2

2. Sexual intercourse is the act which results in production of offspring.
Objection: My opponent failed to use definitions from a clear source. My opponent had the opportunity to cite which dictionary or encyclopedia he/she cited the evidence from. I will counter this by stating evidence from various dictionaries and/or encyclopedias that state that Sexual Intercourse is for humans, and those definitions can bring complete and utter destruction to your argument as a whole, as that sexual intercourse refers to humans in these CLEARLY CITED SOURCES.

sexual contact between individuals involving penetration, especially the insertion of a man's erect penis into a woman's vagina, typically culminating in orgasm and the ejaculation of semen.
The definition from the front page of Google. Now, the definition refers to "man" and "woman", so to dig into this.

The definition above clearly states that sexual intercourse is for humans and no other animals as the term Man refer to a masculine human and the term Woman refers to a feminine human. You can't call a horned goat a woman, nor a cross-bred horse a man.

Move on to the next one.
From Wikipedia. The definition is similar to yours, but look at what is written above it.
This article is primarily about humans. For other animals, see Animal sexual behaviour. For other uses, see Sex (disambiguation).
In Wikipedia, one of the most common sources of information, the article "Sexual Intercourse" specifically refers to human sexual behavior. Animal Sex is for another article. I could simply pull a semantics trick by using any other definition from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercourse, but I simply won't do it.

From Oxford, one of the dictionaries, the definition states as follows:
the physical activity of sex between two people
The term "People" refers to humans.
From Merriam Webster, one of the even more defined and reliable dictionaries states:
physical sexual contact between individuals that involves the genitalia of at least one person.
The term "Person" appears again, and since sex between humans and animals is discouraged as a no-brainer, this definition refers to human sex.

Conclusion: I have used a total of four(4) sources to prove that sexual intercourse is a type of human activity.

Now, I am not done yet, I have to justify how sexual intercourse is used otherwise by humans.

I will, again, let the text speak.
"Just as our bodies tell us what we might like to eat, or when we should go to sleep, they lay down for us our pattern of lust," says University of Toronto psychologist Edward Shorter. "Sex has always offered pleasure."
This section demonstrates that::
1. Internally and cognitively, Sex offers pleasure.
2. Humans have been doing sex for pleasure in the prehistoric era.

Sexuality has a lot to do with our biological framework, agreed Joann Rodgers, director of media relations and lecturer at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
"People and indeed all animals are hard wired to seek out sex and to continue to do so," Rodgers said in a recent interview. "I imagine that is evidence that people at least like sex and even if they don't they engage in it as a biological imperative."
This section demonstrates that:
1. Humans have been having sex without having an intended result of new life.
2. Humans' brains are hardwired to have sex regardless of if they want to reproduce or not.
3. In conclusion: The reason people do sex is that it brings happiness regardless if there are children or not.

As much as 45% of adults within Earth have used birth control medicine at least once in their life prior to the survey, and birth control contributes to sex that does not create offsprings.

Contraceptive use among women in Sub-Saharan Africa has risen from about 5% in 1991 to about 30% in 2006.[7] However, due to extreme poverty, lack of access to birth control, and restrictive abortion laws, many women still resort to clandestine abortion providers for unintended pregnancy, resulting in about 3% obtaining unsafe abortions each year.[8][9]
Africa, a relatively less developed continent, have fewer rates about birth control, however, abortion compensates for unintended pregnancy, meaning the intercourse used to trigger this pregnancy is not meant to be used as a part of the procreation process.

About 50% of pregnancies in the US are triggered with sexual intercourse that does not bear intentions to deliberate procreation.

Sexual activity without the use of effective contraception through choice or coercion is the predominant cause of unintended pregnancy. Worldwide, the unintended pregnancy rate is approximately 45% of all pregnancies...
The global rate is 45%.

The average adult gets some action 54 times a year—or about once a week.
Once per 6-7 days. Now what are the average children counts of an average adult couple?

The global average fertility rate is just below 2.5 children per woman today.
That would mean, at least 51 acts of intercourse per year does not contribute to sex. I know there might be failed attempts to bring a baby into a woman's inside, but you can't say that this is as many as over 100 attempts for 2 years consider if so, the global fertility rate would be much higher.

Evidence is presented, and I conclude:
The reality that sex is used for pleasure, and the existence of contraceptives and other forms of birth control, and the high rate of sex frequency and the low rate of the global fertility rate, and the number of unintended pregnancies bring a conclusion that procreation is not the most important use for sexual intercourse.

I shall begin to rebut my opponents arguments.
My opponent says Wikipedia states that Sexual Intercourse specifically refers to human sexual behavior. But, it doesn't. It says that the specific article is primarily about humans, not that the entirety of sexual intercourse relates to humans.

But, the thing that shocks me most, is that my opponent's Oxford definition is wrong. Here is a link to the real Oxford Dictionary definition:
the physical activity of sex, usually describing the act of a man putting his penis inside a woman’s vagina
As VOTERS should note, this is the similar to the definition Google provides. In the definition, we can clearly see that the word "usually" is stated in it. Usually, does not mean all the time, which leads me to believe that animal sexual intercourse also counts as sexual intercourse.

From Merriam Webster, one of the even more defined and reliable dictionaries states:
physical sexual contact between individuals that involves the genitalia of at least one person.
The term "Person" appears again, and since sex between humans and animals is discouraged as a no-brainer, this definition refers to human sex.

My opponent again states a completely wrong definition. Voters, here is the link to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition:
heterosexual intercourse involving penetration of the vagina by the penis :
This clearly states "the penetration of the vagina by the penis". Animals have genitalia.

My opponent's arguments have been refuted and my 2nd contention in the first round remains solid and true.
----------------------------

My opponent suggests that happiness is a product of sex, ergo causing it to be important.
This section demonstrates that:
1. Humans have been having sex without having an intended result of new life.
2. Humans' brains are hardwired to have sex regardless of if they want to reproduce or not.
3. In conclusion: The reason people do sex is that it brings happiness regardless if there are children or not.
But, my opponent fails to realize that importance does not equal happiness.

Happiness is a byproduct of giving birth. You cannot feel happiness if you are not born.

My opponent also suggests that many people do not want to give birth. But, this is their decision. I cannot stress this enough, VOTERS, the reason they are there is because of procreation and reproduction.

My opponent suggests that the average women gives birth to 2.5 children a year. However, this is completely unrelated to the importance of birth.

Finally, my opponent comes to the conclusion that:
The reality that sex is used for pleasure, and the existence of contraceptives and other forms of birth control, and the high rate of sex frequency and the low rate of the global fertility rate, and the number of unintended pregnancies bring a conclusion that procreation is not the most important use for sexual intercourse.
I have proved this wrong.

My opponent drops my first contention and my second contention remains unrefuted.

I firmly believe that judges should VOTE PRO.
