Resolved: Metal music and other Metal related music is not harmful towards humans to listen to.

FRAMEWORK
  • Harmful: causing or likely to cause harm
  • Harm: injury, damage, or problems caused by something that you do.
OV
  • It is resolved that Metal music and other Metal related music is not harmful to humans to listen to, however, this claim can be easily refuted with a basic argument.
    1. Any music can be harmful to listen to in certain conditions
    2. Metal music is a form of music
    3. Therefore, metal music can be harmful to listen to

  • We can say listening to any music can be harmful because if the volume is played too loudly it causes prolonged damage.
    • "Listening to your music too loudly, as well as loudly for extended periods of time, can indeed cause damage to your hearing over time." To reduce your risk of hearing loss, Dr. Wang recommends learning when your music is considered too loud and how to listen safely" (headphones & Your Health: Can Loud Music Cause Hearing Loss? houston methodist blog).
    • "Excessive sound volume can damage and destroy hair cells. The risk of damage to the hearing system is increased if there is constant or recurring exposure and if the sound is turned up regularly. The danger threshold is estimated at 85 decibels" (the next tech)
  • Given that metal music has a genral reputation of being played at loud volumes at concerts and being blasted out loud, this would if anything tell us that metal music provides more of this risk that other forms of music.

  • Music can also amplify certain negative feelings and emotions and affect ones behavior in negative ways.
