Description

transgenderism: the condition of someone feeling that they are not the same gender (= sex) as the one they had or were said to have at birth.

Pro: Transgenderism should be considered a 3rd gender, I.e. trans women should not be considered women in the same sense a biological woman is considered a woman. They should be separated forms of woman/womanhood.

Con: Trans women should be considered a woman and the word "woman" should be used semantically the same as it is with biological women.

Rules:
1. none really, try to be sincere and enjoy the discussion.

@Ehyeh

holy sh*tttttttt this couldve really been a good debate. I recommend doing what Sum1HugMe did with my argonian VS khajiit debate. Make a new one with somebody who cares.
nonetheless, you have my vote :p

This is all psychobabble bullshit.

@Ehyeh

why we are looking social identity ?

Thank god this person didnt reply. I'm completely burnt out from debating as is, i have way too many debates going on.

Its probably honestly best if con actually doesn't come back to see this argument. I don't want to make people upset through my debates. Lets pray they dont come back, as my argument is likely simply insurmountable.

@Theweakeredge

Is basing most of my arguments off a professor of gender professional enough for you? i hope that's authority enough, although i myself am more well read on philosophy than most philosophers themselves.

@Bones

My argument against the biological view may be of interest to you! i used a biological view based argument against you vs. nyx, i was curious to see if you had an appropriate response. I think the best way to respond against it is the idea that some men must necessarily be "less of a man" than other men, and the same for women. Not only that, but it does necessarily have many assumptions (like the brain argument i used). Many men are going to have brains more like women but not feel like a woman.

In school, I was taught there is a boy and a girl. And also that in the beginning, God created one man and one woman. They didnt teach us about a 3rd gender. I guess it wouldnt fit very well into the story.

@Conservallectual

Potentially, we will see i suppose. It should also be noted that not all transgender people seem to suffer from gender dysphoria, so technically, not all transgender people have a mental condition. Most men on steroids have this exact same mental disorder (bodily dysmorphia).

transgenderism isn't another gender. It's a mental condition that makes you unhappy with your biological gender.

@K_Michael

Well that's the oxford dictionary definition i got. Feel free to adjust it however you want. Accept the debate if you're interested.

-->
@Ehyeh

I believe that sex =/= (does NOT equal) gender as stated in your description. First of all, gender is based on social norms and perceptions and varies at least a little from culture to culture, while biological sex is determined by the expression of the individuals genetics.

-->
@K_Michael

Can you explain what you mean when you say that? that gender and sex cannot be separated?

I would be interested but I would have to contend sex = gender out of the gate.

@Intelligence_06

I've asked him in DM's too! lets wait and see if he's interested.

@Theweakeredge

Looks like it is for you.
