My basic arguments were:

1. Its an insignificant cost to USA (3% of yearly budget)

2. It improves total productivity

3. It helps poor people and their children

Now, I actually expected that my opponent will suggest 250$ or 700$ instead of 500$, which I considered was the strongest counter-argument since it would make me difficult to prove that 500$ is better than both of those.

This is an interesting topic! As someone who is an independent I am not sure where I fall on this. I am not sure about the $500 a month thing, but we are grossly underpaid unless you are rich. I am a teacher with my master’s degree and I am going for my PhD. Even with all that I make peanuts and I barely afford to live in a one bedroom apartment. That will change soon because my wife is about to be done with nursing school, but my point is that if someone who should be considered middle class is struggling, imagine the poorer classes. I am not sure where I lie on this one and I can’t wait to read it! One thing is for sure, most of the middle/poorer classes aren’t paid enough.

Did you know that Republicans are for implementing the fair tax which comes with a monthly check for every American citizen for a out $1000 and democrats oppose it not because they think the tax system is bad but only because repu licans think it is good. The fair tax would literally be the seed stages of a basic mi imum income and studies have shown it to be a tax that would bring jobs back home and it would simultaneously reduce the tax burden of almost every American while simultaneously increasing tax revenue.
