Honestly, if this country were a true meritocracy, then there would be zero way for a healthy, college-educated, trained in the military person as myself to qualify for food assistance and free health care under any circumstance.

In this country powerful people generally become powerful either because poor people give them a lot of votes or because poor people give them a lot of money, so I wouldn't expect most of them to publically talk shit about poor people. And most of them don't.

I would take it a step further and apply it to the welfare programs like Medicaid. The waste is unbelievable. However if they are given a cash allotment to use for appointments and they get to keep whatever isn't used, then they would be more discriminating as to when to go to the Doctor. Obviously this would not apply to well visits or visits for chronic issues and actual emergencies. We as tax payers should not have to pay for someone to go to the E.R. for a pregnancy test because they don't want to buy one at the dollar store and they don't want to wait until Monday to get an appointment with their p.c.p.
We tend to be a punitive society rather than rewarding good imo

I would suggest that the primary factor is conditioning.Though it is fair to say that physiological attributes related to skill, talent and inheritance are probably pre-conditioned.Nonetheless, how or if we decide to utilise inherent traits, will be dependant upon how we are conditioned.

They do have that power and may execute it indirectly via human extinciton on Earth.
There is no guarantees for humanities continuation on Earth for any amount of time.
Mutual Assured Destruction was the first real test and their still exist enough hydrogen bombs to cause extinction of humans.
Erratic climate change via greenhouse effect{ global warming } is the next test and some scientist says that doomed is already because of too many greenhouse gas PPM's already in atsmosphere will not change what is coming, unless there is some unknown carbon sequestering that will do the trick.
Evolution is irrelevant to extinction. Conservative right wing republicans do not care because they lack access to their empathy centers and cannot get beyond personal principles of money over all other is what matter most to them and they falsely believe matters most to humanity.
Poor = bad to conservative right wing republicans and after they eat the brown skinned people they will eat their own in order to have the most money and influence. They like Trump because trump is the pinnacle of 'its all about me' and that is the bottom line for those who chase money above all else.
