It's defeatist because you're resigned to lynching randomly already. It is much preferable to have a non-random lynch. I'd like to think our chances of catching scum go up, and if we fail we are able to analyze the wagons and gain information.
For example, with the information speed gave regarding ragnar's competence, I think that's far better than a random lynch, as his push to lynch the last person on seems quite opportunistic.

I don't think he's lying, but if he was I think it's more likely that he's town trying to draw the NK.
Think about it. Speed is *very likely* to die tonight. If he's mafia, there's a decent chance that the actual vig kills him, if he's town mafia is probably going to kill him. I don't think it's smart to make the claim as mafia considering he's very likely going to die within tonight/tomorrow.

But why would you draw the Nightkill on yourself unless you are a Vigilante. You are the only lifeline for town to survive on for power. Either way it is a lose lose for him with more to lose for him being town than there is with mafia, therefore it is a stupid thing to claim. Speed is smart, he has survived incompetent town before. He can easily do the same in this DP with an outrageous claim such as this

This discussion is pointless, it doesn't need to be completely random. You can just pick someone and vote them. Or you can wait until you get some behavioral analysis. Doesn't matter.

In this case it's better (in my opinion) to get feedback on what the vig kill is, in the same way that Mafia talks about their NK.
