It makes sense to try and stall when it's you or one of your scum buddies trying to get lynched, hoping for a NL or diverting the lynch to someone else (as happened last phase), but it's either you or NL and the votes are for NL right now. So you can go with the NL now or argue yourself into a grave today.

Exactly. They have to forfeit tonight or speed is town and they kill him. Speed seeded this last phase. No lynching just gives you results and makes this 50/50 instead of 25%

Right. By why would speed not think to no lynch then. He’s smart enough to do that. It makes me think the only reason that thought didn’t occur to him is because that’s not his role and he forgot to think about the gameplay as if it was.
