I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but votes should also probably be viewable from the profile page along with debates and topics. Forum posts would be nice too, but votes more so.

Well, he didn't speak about moderation as if he planned on doing all of it, and he asked us what power moderation should have.

And I was responding to Greyparrot implying Sanders' approval rating is only because he was never slandered - which, if you kept your eyes open for 2015 and 2016, you would have seen it every day.

It wasn't really the left cannibalizing itself so much as the neoliberal media monopolies galvanizing behind their candidate because both the leftward and rightward candidate excited more people than her.

Adding to what Drafterman said, I don't think many Syrian citizens were asking for a multi-sided war involving a totalitarian government, Islamist terrorists, the US and NATO, and Russia. Why expect them to fight a war in which they support no side winning, where all sides involved seem to deal with their lives with total disregard?

I think, given the amount of time Max has to focus on DDO's spam problem, any hope of him running the show here should be discarded for the time being and we should move onto figuring out who can handle moderation on DA.

It is clear enabling to distract from actual murders and interpersonal violence with property damage. Unless you think property is more important than people?
Not saying you do. But there are more than a few that would indicate such as their belief.
Factually, right-wing extremism has engaged in more ideologically-charged murders and assaults than left-extremists (including antifa) over the years. As a result, I think it's stupid to identify any group as equally deserving scorn.

As those familiar with United States politics may know, FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was with the Bureau for over 20 years, was fired recently over text messages he had sent over President Trump. Regardless of what I think about whether or not he should have been fired, or been given a demotion and suspension as had been suggested internally, Strzok's actions and the outpouring of #Resistance support for him are a good lesson in misguided politics.
Strzok, as a veteran FBI official, had no reason to double down on his texts that indicated a bias against someone he was investigating. Robert Mueller even distanced himself from Strzok as a result of the scandal, because Mueller knew Strzok was fighting a losing battle. The FBI's investigative power is only feasibly granted when the FBI maintains a public front of truth and non-bias. The firing of Strzok, whether pressured by the Trump administration or not, should not come as an absolute surprise.
Then comes the response to the firing. Strzok has a GoFundMe for legal fees and lost income, which has gotten $400,000 over the past couple days. In a country where there are millions of causes more in need of money than a 20-plus year veteran of the FBI, who I assume has been well paid, this sort of outpouring screams of Trump derangement. There are better ways to waste money, and better problems with the Trump administration to address.

Charlottesville, ok. So you are agreeing that the actions of one affiliate(degree be damned) necessarily make the whole associated group guilty of that crime? This instance also, outweighs repeated violent activity since the 90's?

The failure to differentiate the two is a striking failure of nuance when antifa is bashed for showing up to tell Nazis they aren't welcome where they killed someone a year prior, or when they stand against their genocidal rhetoric. But yeah, same thing.

A breath of fresh air indeed. I think we can make something good out of this.

I think we should just leave the standards open for now. We only have DDO members really, so I think voters will be conscientious to debaters in giving their opinions.

I think we should initially avoid giving DDO mods nodding positions for DA. It's been too long since we've seen them just using the site.

@Earth
There was some movement to do that before. I think Mikal suggested it, if my memory holds. But yeah, whatever you need to keep, go look for it.

@SamStevens
Indeed. If DDO continues to sink, then I think it's best if we direct some or most of our attention to making this site better.

Except nothing is under control. The spam is coming just as quick as before they banned every normal user.

RM got banned from DA this morning. He used to be perma-banned from DDO.

It's a hell of a coincidence. I think it's still more likely Juggle caught members as collateral damage to their work.

Yeah, he was the only recently active member I looked at that wasn't banned. And I guess you're the second.

Even Airmax's personal has been affected.
Weirdly enough, RM's account is the only recently active one I've seen that has not been affected.

It looks like every account that's been recently active has been automatically closed on DDO.

Before the internal server error occurred, at a glance it was like there wasn't even a captcha added.

Now's the time for any DDO holdouts to come over here, at least for the time being, I think.

Another spam attack hit DDO last night, affecting all forums. This is even with the captcha system in place. I was refreshing the site a few minutes ago when I got an all-white page with small text saying: "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred." This is pretty odd, because even at the spam's worst points, I never saw that page come up. I wonder if the server is actually messed up, or if Juggle temporarily shut down the site to do work on it. Whatever the reason, this site is more important for our online debating community in the short term than it seemed to be when Juggle did mass deletions yesterday.

Moderation can be democratized, but a problem that may arise is mob mentality, and the application of a majority ideology to moderation. So there should always be at least one mod that can stop that from happening.

I don't know which way this is going to go, but I think this site has a lot of upward potential, and DDO is still having trouble getting anything together.
Like, before the spam got to its extreme, Airmax asked me to run a debate tournament. There was simply no appetite in the community to read a debate and vote, and there was no apparent interest in mentors for a beginner's tournament. The only thing I could do is wait until there was interest, but then DDO turned into spam hell.
There's simply no community structure there anymore. If there's any movement to create some again, I'll be spending some time there, but I this site has more forward momentum at the moment.

@DebateArt.com
You could have the bulk of the moderation done from a faceless admin account.

@Zeichen
An easier way would just be for those people to change their behaviour, but it seems that isn't working out.

Right, well the site must have revolved around you and Bench for what? 5 years? DDO's community would not have survived for as long as it if Max were never moderator. He had missteps but he knew what he was doing.

@DebateArt.com
I'm not really sure the use of a layered moderation system for a site as small as this. Later? Sure. But now a simple disciplinary system should suffice for any problems.
Created:

@DebateArt.com
You should consider asking Airmax for the histories of certain members that might populate this site. He's been a good mod, and the information might prove useful.
Created:
Posted in:
Disciplinary:
1. Post removal
2. Thread closure (I personally dislike when this is used, but it generally exists)
3. Topic removal
4. Ordered separation (temporary "restraining order) between two members
5. Temp-ban
6. Perma-ban
Other:
1. Thread Pinning
I would wait on giving more "other" responsibility for when the community is more grown.

On the note of my experience, I haven't played forum mafia in years, and I'm basically trying to re-learn the game here. Just mentioning that if it affects how quickly you move to start the first series.

If Airmax wants to come over to DA, then I think he should take some time off to be a "normal" member for awhile, and see if he wants to mod after a few months, creator willing.

I totally agree on Gordon, Penguin, and Alfred. I also have strong affinities for Harvey (Bullock) and Falcone. I'm on early Season 3 on Netflix.
