Hard to tell, however mostly for the main part I don't think men are needed to survive in those terms, or even back then. It was patriarchy at that time, and may or may not be now.

"Woman need men to survive because everything around you was created by them such as infrastructure." No, not as in being created. In other terms, I don't see the point here. Men had an unfair advantage where woman were not allowed the education nor opportunity at that time to create such things. But men had that opportunity. Would it have been possible with time and education? Yes. You can't simply are looking at something like woman had the chance at the time. Think about the origin. I don't see what you can base this off? And to say woman needed it to survive is simply false. If woman had the education and opportunity, things would have been discovered. We as a society would have found a way to live even if some things like the roads weren't invented. It's even possible they thought the same things or would've thought the same things, but we're denied the idea or did not speak in "respect".

So, the real question. How do you see this? I'm curious in responses on the opposing side because every time it is mentioned it gets avoided.

Though as you said there are some things that should be restricted.

You know, how about this. You wear what you want, I wear what I want, you teach your sons and were all fine.

If men can walk around half naked, entirely, whats the problem with woman? You mostly see woman getting raped, not men. So, why can't men handle the same responsibilities? That is not to say men don't get raped but in terms of research, it's mostly woman.

Sometimes you guys act as if nothing else was involved, so, is there another way to find this? Sometimes people leave the blanks.

Forcing your religion on a child and wrongfully punishing is sometimes what could be left blank.
Or maybe just forcing religion? I mean, I don't even know if I would want parents forcing their religion on me.

Maybe it wasn't all that met the eye. Maybe, but i'm unsure because I haven't had a chance to completely read/watch it.

If parents learn to accept then its time to move on I guess. That was a joke, it's a bit extreme depending on the case.

Alright, simple, I need auto save the 'moment' I type it. Almost like google documents per say.
I'm not sure how much development that would need let alone the time you have. But I still believe it provides great assistance, at least for me.

My summary of the 'problems' with the current status of it:
  • Forget to click "preview argument" and the next thing I know an hour's worth of work, gone.
  • Stupid, but I turn off my computer. Accidentally in some cases where it gets powered off because I forgot to charge it and in some cases my computer turns off with my accident misclick.
  • Accidentally refresh with either misclick or bookmarks were close, leading to the result of making a close click to my bookmark but instead the refresh button.
As for the refresh part of my reasons, why does the forums have a warning when you have a response for refreshing but not in when writing the debates? If you are not to take my request into consideration, can you take this request at the very most?

Yes, I am aware I can use other things such as google documents however it just makes it more convenient and 'less' time consuming.

Opinions on black-washing anime characters?
-->
@Sidewalker
I thought I posted my response...

If anartist wants to make changes to their fictional characters, isn’t that their creativeright?  Who is hurt by it?   If theaudience rejects it, then they are hurting themselves, but they are free to dothat if they want.  We are suboptimizingif we try to limit or suppress an artist’s creativity, I will always come downon the side of freedom for artists, anything less smacks of censorship and/or violationof 1st amendment rights.
Creativity? I can hardly call this creative when all you're doing is grabbing/clicking a different brush color. If anything, the only thing that is creative is making you're own character.

Theword “fandom” has changed dramatically in my lifetime, there were always fan clubsand the like, but the fandom you are talking about is a completely newphenomenon for me, I know about it but I’m not sure I really understand it.   Nevertheless, or maybe consequently, I don’tknow what you mean by “the fandom that makes the art”.  To my understanding, the artists create theart, the fans appreciate the art, where does the fans “make the art” come in?
My bad, fandom = fans or in other words, the viewers. Its the artist from the community that watches the show.

In other words, "the artist who watches the show (or maybe in some cases they don't even watch the show) that makes the art".

That’s what I thought we were talkingabout, now I see that we are talking about something else, that you are goingto have to explain to me.  As far as I know, artistsown the character’s they create, there are copyright laws that protect theartists rights, but I’m thinking that’s not what we are talking about here. Generallyspeaking, outside of copyright infringement, if fans are making art, then the firstamendment guarantees their freedom in doing so.

I think some people are getting confused on this topic. This topic is about the artists black-washing the characters not the original artists of the anime/manga.

Yes, every artist is free to do whatever they want that protects their rights. Which would mostly be called "fan-art" if its making the character based on the show. However, that doesn't mean its right, which is what i'm getting at.

You’vegot to be kidding me, the artist’s freedom should be limited because thecharacter’s they create have rights?  Really?  See, thisis what I’m talking about.  When peoplesay things like what got my attention, I ask them to explain, and the answer isalways “I don’t know” disguised as something else.  I’m going back to my theory that the culturewar demagogues are in control people’s feelings, and the controlled don’t evenknow how to explain those feelings.  Trust me, the artists should offend the fictional characters they createdoes not explainyour feelings.   Perhapsyou should explore the possibility I could be right through introspection.  I don’t think you can explain it to me untilyou can find a way to explain it to yourself. If you can’t do that without recognizingsomeone else’s control, then you have already lost your freedom, and you can andshould take it back.
Hm? I have already agreed that people influence our opinions, feelings, thoughts and actions.

Besides, i'm not talking about if someone has influenced my opinion or not.

--

Woah, slow down. I never said the characters had rights, I think people are making stuff up. This isn't about if the character has feelings, rights, opinions, etc. I'm talking about what shouldn't be done. Just because you aren't personally affected of someones death because of a murder you never knew doesn't mean intentional murder should be done.

I haven't said anything along the lines of "I don't know" or "I can't defend my opinion, you know what? Ahh, I don't know!".

Please, tell me, how have I not explained my feelings/opinion thoroughly?

Nobody is in control. Are they influencing? Can I be influenced? Of course, I can't deny this. I could be against the whole world with my opinion but i'll still hold it.

Irecall the first post in our discussion as mostly saying “it upsets me becauseit would upset them even more”, at least it seemed that way to me.
Good,me too, and I am not questioning that about you.  But I do think there are others who do notstand for that, and they are controlling or influencing how a lot of peoplefeel.
My bad, this wasn't supposed to be included in my response. I mean't to completely take this out after cutting out a few of my words. If you can, disregard this.

I dotoo, I have no idea how many genders there are, but whatever we’re up to, I believepeople should be treated equally, and as individuals. In today's world, anything else would be too complicated.
Agreed, however that was just an example.

Are yousure that comes 100% from you, speaking freely?  I just think we all need to look behind the curtain, make sure nobody backthere is pulling our levers and strings, and if they are, collectively declareour freedom.  The “them” of our us/themthinking, needs to become the ones behind the curtain, not each other
Can I be 110% sure while also being 0.01% sure?

Opinions on black-washing anime characters?

@Lemming
Main point I'm curious on,
Why does this discrimination matter?
... because it's discrimination..

So if I understand your view correctly,
X group is identifiable in X character,
Changing X character to no longer be identifiable with X group is disrespectful, because it takes away from the public perception of the character as part of X group,
Which lessens X groups influence in society?
X group = racial status?

If so, yes, it is disrespectful because it takes away the original characters racial look.

Influence? What do you mean by  influence?

I don't think I'm understanding right though,
As I don't think fandom have enough power to do that,
I return to my thoughts on Flags and Religion,
The 'act of changing the character, is itself objectionable, because it takes away from the characters identity in X group,
Which is seen as disrespectful to X group,
Ramifications and consequences not important, it's a matter of the act being wrong in itself.
The fandom doesn't have enough power to do what?

Most of what you say from the rest seems like you're agreeing with me?

That sounds the most right to me,
I'd also suppose you mean hard to change X group,
Such as race, rather than group of people with shaved heads.
I think shaved heads and race are a bit different, so yes.

I've heard that people like to 'project themselves sometimes, in media,
A character 'looking more like them, can make this easier I would think,
I don't say this to make it right or wrong,
But as interesting piece of possible reason why for some people.

Some people I imagine just like seeing different variations of a theme/character.
So, project themselves with their own character? Pretend to be that one character?
Or do you mean taking away someone's representation and projecting them in a drawing to look like them?

If you like 'different' variations maybe create your own character? Or you know, just keep imagining.

Of discrimination,
I'd figure there are different 'types and 'degrees,
I discriminate all the time, from a certain point of view.
If I look at athletic people more,
Or look at one race more than another,
One hair color more than another.
I think there's a difference.

A fictional character 'is fictional though,
'They are not harmed,
Though I suppose the people they are 'based on, 'might be be harmed, or feel disrespected.
Yes, that's somewhat my point. Not only, but they shouldn't be congratulated like " Wow! Black Deku they changed him!". This is me mostly saying, it shouldn't be changed even if the fictional character is affected or not.

Take for example if I graffiti on someones artwork and ruin it completely. Take if this was an artwork that was supporting black lives matter or whatever the artwork might be. Just because the artwork doesn't have feelings and they aren't harmed doesn't mean it should be done.

You’re missing the point. Finding ways to reduce deaths doesn’t have to prevent all deaths to be valuable.
That's true, but that doesn't mean it's preventing deaths? Like I said, people will find another way to kill.

Guns can even be banned but they'll find ways to illegally get them.

We put a fence around a pool to help prevent one way babies can tragically die.
I'm not going to keep repeating myself other than this once, I'm not going to be talking about an example comparing two different things.

We should ban assault weapons to help prevent one way people can tragically die. Just because people will still get killed by handguns isn’t a reason to not ban assault weapons which have no practical use in society.
Good point. But i've already answered this above.

No. Guns make killing easy. Some would be murderers are not physically or mentally capable of killing by other means. Pulling a trigger is a lot easier than strangling someone, for example.
I guess I can see that, but if someone wants to kill another are they willing to go to such lengths?

I guess this depends being there are many other ways that don't even involve blood which many people could be mentally capable, especially since it doesn't involve any type of gore.

No, you're missing the point. I am not asking what other ways babies can die, I am asking how they can die from your example. Guns and fences are entirely different things. You're comparing things that don't relate at all. Find another example.

That’s just not true
Alright, explain.

The point is if you cut down on guns, you will cut down on murder. Knives and blunt trauma will NOT fill in the gap for less guns.
If people have ill intentions to kill another, yes, they'll find another way. The mindset doesn't fade away just because guns would be taken away.

So we shouldn’t put fences around swimming pools because babies will just find another way to kill themselves without a pool. Brilliant
I know! It's just brilliant.. but didn't you mention this idea? You're going to diss your own mention?

Alright, in all seriousness, you comparing an apple to an orange. There is no other possible way for a baby on their own to find another way to kill themselves when you have fences. Many swimming pools don't have fences anyways. Most are attended with an adult as per the rules of swimming. Most of the time, at least.

We want more gun control but is that gonna help? Knife, Bat, your own fists, whatever.

There's really nothing to say about this. We take away guns, what happens? They'll find another way to kill people one way or another.

Theres a misconception with 'safe', it doesn't mean you won't get hurt or killed. You can still get injured with or without a gun.

@Sidewalker
We are talking about fictional characters, right?  It's not like thier feeling get hurt or they are offended.  If it's the originating artist that makes the changes, then it's his representation that he's changing, I don't see how anybody is taking anything away from anybody.
But we're not talking about their feelings? We're talking about what the artists are doing to change their representation, not what if they're sad, hurt or upset about it.

If it's the originating artist that makes the changes,
But we're not talking about the original artist. We're talking about the fandom that makes the art.
As said, I don't think I have seen the original artist change the skin tone of a character midway through the show.

I don't see skin tone as discriminary against a fictional character.
When you change it, yes.

Now you're telling me how I feel about it?
No? Based on your previous response I assumed that wasn't the answer you were looking for from me. Hence I decided to extend my comment further.

I'm not asking how I feel about it, I know how I feel.  I'm trying to understand the phenomenon of so many who can't tell what they stand for, they can only tell what the stand against.  It doesn't sound healthy to me, I wonder if it a matter of projecting internal conclict outward.
I'm not saying how you feel about it? Nowhere does it say you feel or should feel a certain way. If you're basing it on my comment "In the end, if you're trying to get the reaction .." that was explaining something that could've been asked ahead of time and also my inference on how your message was sent.

I'm trying to understand the phenomenon of so many who can't tell what they stand for, they can only tell what the stand against.
If this is directed towards me, I already told you what I stood for I haven't told you something I don't stand against.
I stand for equal treatment with every race.

It doesn't sound healthy to me, I wonder if it a matter of projecting internal conclict outward.
Not sure how you're saying its unhealthy? Everyone has something they're against, whatever they say, you can easily think about it. "I don't believe in sexism" in other words, "I believe all genders should be treated equally."

The, older I get, the more confused I get by social issues, especially the current culture war and identity politics, just trying to understand.  I'm on the outside looking in, and I just don't get it.
I relate to this to an extent. I've been reading about the social issues specifically the identity politics and sometimes I don't seem to understand them to the fullest.

In short, that is more confusing, not less.
At this point, I don't know what to tell you anymore..

Simply, I don't believe someones representation should be covered for the sake of representing another race.

--
Lemming,
Original text: "..Changing another's skin tone because you like it or want more representation for you're or a different race is discrimination."

@Lemming
Glad we're continuing this conversation. Thanks.
I don't understand why what they're doing is wrong,
Even if some people airbrushed an entire cast.

Though now I'm reflecting on my past posts,
But I find myself consistent in my views, so whew.
I think its a consistent repeat in one summary: Changing another's skin tone because you like it or want more representation for you're or a different race is discrimination. Such as changing one's character who was originally black into being white.

If some people airbrushed the entire cast, that's even worse. At that point you're not even trying to bring more representation to another race but now it's just about covering the characters representation all together.

Do you like Fate/Stay Night?
(Never seen it or read it myself)
Do the changes to historical/mythical figures, bother you in that?
I've read some of the novels, however I don't think I actually completed all of the volumes (vols) but I understand enough. One of the most known characters that were based on a historical figure was Saber who was based on King Arthur. If you don't already know, how is an art style formed? An art style is formed based on inspiration from others, everyone gets inspiration from somewhere even if you're self-taught.

No, they don't bother me. They aren't representing the actual person. If the design was the same and they were actually trying to make them the exact same, sure. There's a difference. The fans making the art are drawing the actual character, the manga creators got inspiration from them, the historical figures. They, the artist(s), aren't trying to draw the historical people. Now if the fans got inspiration from Deku and made their own character I wouldn't have any problem.

When I say inspiration I mean not remaking him in your art style, I mean making an entirely new character.

This might be confusing, so let me confirm something. In the manga they aren't King Arthur. When the artists draw, they are Deku (or King Arthur for your example). See the difference? I appreciate you mentioning this, I might have to think harder about this one, maybe i'll change my mind on this response. I think I might..

@Sidewalker
The question was why you are OK with all changes except skin tone, why does that change bother YOU. How does telling me about how you think it would bother others explain why it bothers you?
I didn't get that impression, my bad. Yes, I did use a lot of examples of others getting mad for such things. However, my opinion is there.

  • There shouldn't be a difference in the discrimination status
  • Artists shouldn't take away someones representation
Usually you don't see major changes except for the skin tone. I can't actually think of anything as of right now that i've seen someone change the character drastically excluding skin tone. So, I don't bother. Now if there WAS a change to the character, it depends? What can you say that is discrimination on the character besides skin tone?

But, you're not looking for that are you? So, in short, it's because this can be considered racist or discrimination.
  • It bothers ME because its genuinely crazy how others seem to think you can only direct racism or discrimination towards people of color.
  • It bothers ME because the representation of another was taken all because you wanted to direct it towards a different representation.
  • It bothers ME that things can be taken so lightly against this type of racism but the others can be dearly hated.
In the end, if you're trying to get the reaction "I don't want to see a black character in any anime series", that's not anywhere close. I'm fine with black characters. Though if you want me to say, "I don't want to see an Asian character be replaced by someone of color because its discrimination", then sure, use it that way.

it seems that people can only tell you who they are by telling you what they think about who they aren’t.
Not completely sure how this relates. Though this is usually how it goes for everyone even if you're matured now.

I will tell you that it’s clear to me that people who can’t explain themselves aren’t in control of themselves, if you don’t know why you are doing what you do, it’s probably because somebody else is pulling the strings.
I am assuming this was directed towards me. It's not that I can't explain myself, in fact, I did. I explained why black-washing should be considered wrong. In all realness, that is MY opinion. Take my entire comment and turn some of my sentences in, it bothers ME because "When you take someones original representation in the case i'm talking about, they're Asian, that is discrimination towards them."

Everyone or most are influenced in some way, small or big way, matured or not. Yeah, I can agree. Most are mindless puppets that form their opinions by others. But isn't this common? Isn't this what happens when others are influenced? There's a problem, they agree. Or am I getting the wrong impression? I believe you mean something else but i'm not sure.

In short, I don't want to see someone's representation taken away. I don't want someone to be proud they are bringing another representation to cover another.

@Best.Korea
No. The entire life of an unborn child is destroyed by abortion.
You're talking about a life that has only begun. This "entire" life has barely started.

Abortion destroys more human life than it saves.
Is abortion supposed to save lives?

And by lives what do you mean? Because it is arguable that these women's lives are saved.

Therefore, it is wrong.
Forcing to have someone they don't want and contribute long years of their life to that child is wrong.

Abortionists have already killed over 1 billion children.
And look at where we are now, 8 billion.

Do you argue that it is okay to destroy a human life, therefore we are justified in executing women who have abortions?
Yes and no.
I argue that it is alright to get rid of the fetus if the woman so chooses.

I don't believe its right to kill women who have abortion though, no. Not sure why you would mention something like this if you're so concerned about the population that could've been here without abortion.

What abortion basically comes down to.
How annoying..
'Basically abortion comes down to two sides.

Either you think that a mothers' right to her body is more important than the life of an infant.
Or you think that an infant is more important to a mothers' right to her body.
Not just her body, but her entire life that she has worked on that is going to be affected.

The baby didn't choose to be created.
If the mother wants an abortion, then neither, in most cases did the mother choose for the child to be created.  The woman wouldn't choose abortion if she wanted the baby that's obvious. There's the misconception right there. And you guessed it, in many cases its because of rape. The mother didn't choose to get raped and FORCED to have a fetus in her body, now did she? You're saying a fetus with little, if that, to no intelligence trumps a woman or girl with intelligence that already has a (hopefully) steady life that might get reckoned with for how many years? Just so you know, i'm not saying that the fetus isn't a life. I'm saying it's (possibly) disturbing or even a better word, damaging the woman/girl's life dearly.

Oh, and lets not forget that the girl might be a student. Many schools let off the student for quite a while since they're taking care of a child. Keep in mind the ages of a student can differ. This fetus is distracting and 'taking' away someones freedom, their life. You're making them a slave to take care of someone they didn't choose to have. I already know it's likely you'll say the fetus is a life, I know. Though you worry about this fetus's life when you're not worrying about the other? In some case its not even someone who has fully matured yet that you're forcing into parenthood..

When the child does actually form opinions and they want to commit suicide they can or that is at least for the United States. But what happens if it fails? Attempt at suicide tends to result in being charged into a mental hospital.  If the child even has thoughts about suicide, usually they can be forced into having a therapist but it still can result in being taken into a mental hospital.

The mother caused the creation of that life.
The mother partly/mostly caused the creation of a life she didn't want to create.

Any argument that went against the claim "The woman's body, her choice" can be quickly taken down. Though this is a different topic, so, i'll ignore.

Maybe instead of getting rid of abortions, get rid of you're sons intrusive thoughts. Teach them. If their wasn't rape, many if not most abortions would not take place. If you can't teach you're children, what place do you have in this conversation?

So:
The mother does not have a right to kill a human life that is not part of her body, that she caused to exist.
Actually, abortion is protected in many states in the United States and other countries. They do have rights.
Unless you're saying they shouldn't have the right, which, I can still disagree with.

Opinions on black-washing anime characters?

@Sidewalker
Delayed response..
if that's not it, then please explain what makes skin tone a problem.
When you take someones original representation in the case i'm talking about, they're Asian, that is discrimination towards them.

Like i've stated, you will most likely not see someone post someone who originally was a black character being turned into a white character. If they did, two of two things would happen:
  • Get multiple comments of hate
  • Somehow find a way for the video/photo to be taken down
If this was the company, this would be different. They would most likely go down in a 'bad name' or I guess what it's called 'canceled' . Nonetheless this doesn't matter at least mostly for this topic. I'm talking about the artists, not the company making the original character.

Now, understand this, it would be considered discrimination towards people of color, wanting the character to become white because 'its better' or 'white people need more representation'. But regardless if you most likely wouldn't hear this, people would definitely get upset. The same thing should apply Black, Asian, etc. While yes not everyone thinks the same, in the end, what is it doing? Still taking away someones representation.

This relates to what I have recently seen.  The creators who are black-washing characters state 'i'm showing black representation'.But what they don't realize is they are taking away the characters representation.

Usually I look at more headshots rather than full bodies. When you look at a headshot, it completely stands out to you. That's not the only thing, sometimes they don't even create art. They just use a tool that quickly changes the skin tone. Basically, they get the original image from the show and use a color tool.  This depends, does it completely stand out to me? Even if it doesn't stand out at first, is it still wrong? It's not about what you see at first, it's about what they're doing.

I don't have current thoughts about the American flag, however, it's still a representation. I think their was an accident with the world cup, the same thing applies.

What is you're question? Why does the fandom get upsetting? Why does the fandom specifically black-wash?

The fandom in particular causes these changes to the characters, when you are part of the fandom and draw these changes on the character you are the problem. Well, contributing to the problem.  In this case, I talked about Izuku Midoryia, Deku. He is not black and that is evident. However, people keep taking their own representation and making him black. Though if that doesn't answer, i'm not sure what you're really asking, elaborate.

Comments don't bother me, they're trying to find the real intention or motives of the artist. I'm not by any means saying that derivative art bothers me. In fact, I draw similar copies to another's art, without drastic change. Derivative art is cool. But derivative art is different from what i'm talking about. Derivative art is imitating another's artwork but when you change the skin tone that was intended for the character, that is different. By all means you can have derivative art, or custom expressed art in your own style, sure. But once again, you're taking the representation of the character away.

Art of characters as animals, or as Humans, seem a bigger change than race.
Had to specifically quote this one. In the world of anime, they are technically humans. Though I am assuming you mean making them in realistic form? This is what you call an artist style. Imitating the artist but having the version realistic versus cartoon. Art as the character being an animal.. I wasn't quite sure about this one to be honest, but is this taking someones character and black-washing their face?

If I had made the only black person in the anime white, or even if they weren't the only one, how would viewers react?

As for the last parts of your comment, you mention yourself, so, i'm not quite sure who you are directing that comment towards.

Eh, fandom can be interesting to see variations of characters, settings,
I suppose changes to characters bother me 'sometimes in official releases,
If other people want to watch it, eh okay, just may be I won't.
Agreed. The fandom can be good at times, but also somewhat upsetting. The different settings, plot, (added) characters, all that can be cool, yeah. However, changing the original characters skin tone is a bit disappointing.

In official releases, I am not the biggest fan of extreme changes but sometimes they're alright. The new season for Demon Slayer, season three is coming out and there are changes to Douma. I'm not completely sure that I do or don't like the 'new' style of Douma. He hasn't changed all that much so it's fine, you know?

Yeah, there's not much I can do. I can't stop the creator from creating or stopping others from watching it. I just don't believe it is something that should be considered 'good'.

@Intelligence_06
Usually I just assume it is due to better lighting / worse lighting / change of artist drawing unless public statement on why the skin color shifts are being made.
The lighting usually doesn't tend to matter, you can most likely see the difference.

If it's the change of the artist, that's exactly what i'm talking about. If it's a change of the artist, they are still taking away the Asian representation. Unless you are talking about the company? Usually the companies who actually draw the characters don't switch that quickly and I have actually not seen it happen.. If your're talking about the company, i'm mostly talking about fan art. Though I feel i'm getting the wrong impression?

In previous drawings I've seen the author comment something along the lines of, "i'm trying to bring black representation into this anime". Not exactly the words, but similar.

I think your thinking about the wrong thing, confused maybe?
This isn't even about that, i'm talking about fans making such art. Not the company, the people who make fan art.

Your statement has nothing to do about this topic.

@PREZ-HILTON
I only care when they do it as a way to prove something
This is my point, if it's considered who the best actor is then sure, nice. But how are you supposed to know? It always seems to be something about bringing more awareness or representation to people of color, not whose better actor. Is it possible, yeah, just slightly rare from what I see. And this comment only revolves around live action, anime doesn't have a 'better actor'.

Though it would always tend to be a problem even with that was the case for others. If the roles were reversed and it was someone white.

I did like that L in death note became black for the movie though
I haven't watched the live action except for bits and pieces shown from others.
Not sure I have a huge opinion on it, I guess? The live action just seems to be an Americanization version with many of the characters.
