Abortion - Responsibility and Rights
True, but laws don't make moral determinations. You saying that rights are associated with personhood is as arbitrary as me saying "rights are associated only with white people". Obviously wrong. Moreover, you don't' really think coming out of the womb converts the right to life, do you? Would you allow abortion of a 9 month old "fetus"?
Personhood is a legal term regarding rights. Science doesn't deal with rights -
True, but science is able to give objective facts useful for the making of laws. For example, murder is wrong can only be enforced if a degree of science i.e., it can be determined that the agent is alive and has been killed. If science determines that a fetus is a human being (done) and murder is the killing of a human being (tautology) then abortion is murder.

Also, since abortions late in the pregnancy aren't done on a whim and generally have to do with preserving maternal health - yes, I would absolutely allow it.
So despite something being immoral, as agreed by you, as long as the immoral act is not done often, it should be legalised?

Mugging involves a victim whose rights have been violated. The unborn don't have rights you cannot violate them.
A fetus is scientifically...

Science doesn't make legal determinations. Rights are associated with personhood, and personhood is attached at birth.

No I don't feel I'm supporting the wrong side I'm tired of talking in circles around morons that bring up things like oh if I lose my birth certificate are you allowed to kill me because it's stupid and it doesn't mean anything.
No I only bring up such a stupid point to expose how stupid your initial point was. Recall, you said

The unborn don't have rights they don't have identification they don't have a birth certificate they don't have anything to verify their even alive

which logically follows that those who don't have identification, a birth certificate or anything to verify their even alive, can be killed, albeit them being fully grown human beings. This is what your criterion allows for.

If you feel like your supporting the right side, then let's debate. After all, I'm a moron right?

quit pulling me back into the conversation when I said I'm done.
The only reason your done is because you've realised your supporting the wrong side.

Human life begins at fertilization, the process during which a male gamete or sperm unites with a female gamete or oocyte (ovum) to form a single cell called a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marked the beginning of each of us as a unique individual.” “A zygote is the beginning of a new human being (i.e., an embryo).”
—Keith L. Moore, The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology, 7th edition. Philadelphia, PA: Saunders, 2003. pp. 16, 2.

“Fertilization is the process by which male and female haploid gametes (sperm and egg) unite to produce a genetically distinct individual.
—Signorelli et al., Kinases, phosphatases and proteases during sperm capacitation, CELL TISSUE RES. 349(3):765 (Mar. 20, 2012)

“Although life is a continuous process, fertilization (which, incidentally, is not a ‘moment’) is a critical landmark because, under ordinary circumstances, a new, genetically distinct human organism is formed when the chromosomes of the male and female pronuclei blend in the oocyte.”
—Ronan O’Rahilly and Fabiola Mueller, Human Embryology and Teratology, 3rd edition. New York: John Wiley & Sons, 2000, p. 8

"Development of the embryo begins at Stage 1 when a sperm fertilizes an oocyte and together they form a zygote."
— Princeton Education

Development of human beings with fertilisation a process by which the sperm from the male and the egg from the female unite to give rise to a new organism which is the zygote”
—Dr. T.W Sadler

"It is the penetration of the ovum by a spermatozoon and resultant mingling of the nuclear material each brings to the union that constitutes the culmination of the process of fertilization and marks the initiation of the life of a new individual." (1)
-EPM.org

"It is scientifically correct to say that an individual human life begins at conception”
-Dr. Michelle M. Mathews-Rohs, from Harvard Medical School,

“We can accept that the embryo is a living thing in the fact that it has a beating heart, that it has its own genetic system within it. It’s clearly human in the sense that it’s not a gerbil, and we can recognize that it is human life
-Ann Furedi, Chief executive of British Pregnancy Advisory Centre, the UK’s larger independent abortion provider.

“I think we have deluded ourselves into believing that people don't know that abortion is killing. So any pretence that abortion is not killing is a signal of our ambivalence, a signal that we cannot say yes, it kills a fetus
-Faye Wattleton, longest reigning President of Planned Parenthood

“This (life beginning at conception) all seems so simple and evident that it is difficult to picture a time when it wasn’t a part of the common knowledge
-Alan Guttmacher, former President of Planned Parenthood, (1933)

You can list your personal reasons for being pro life. You never have to have an abortion.
You can list your personal reasons for being anti-canibal. The fact is, you will never eat a human being. Why are you enforcing our moral standards on me? The fact is, men can have an opinion on women's rights, just like how white people can be apart of BLM, just like how a mom-murdering judge can have an opinion on murders.

Why does God want to be worshipped?
-->
@BrotherDThomas
INTELLIGENCE_06'S QUOTE THAT GOES AGAINST JESUS AS GOD AS SHOWN IN THE PASSAGE BELOW:  "It is not that God wants to be worshipped."

"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4: 23-24)
Also

Exodus 34:14-15

Rather, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred stones, and chop down their Asherah poles. 14 For you must not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. 15 Do not make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you, and you will eat their sacrifices

I've always thought, doesn't an omnipotent being have better things to do then worry about which mortal being is and isn't worshipping them?

Grown up  people knocking each other senseless.

Though some might argue that they were already senseless.
All sports can be diminished into seemingly stupid acts.

Soccer: Grown people kicking round ball at man between sticks.
NFL: Person crash into person and dive on floor.
Golf: Stick hit ball and into hole.
Tennis: Pointlessly hitting a ball at each other (why hit the ball if it's going to end up back at my end? Seems counterproductive)
Table tennis: The above but small.
Cross-country: Running in a circle just to arrive at where you started.
Archery: Flinging stick at a circular board.
Bodybuilding: Lifting, lifting, lifting, lifting.
Fencing: Jack Sparrow with a flacid sword.
Martial Arts: Fooling yourself into thinking that you are Bruce Lee.
Long Jump: Literally jumping.
Skateboarding: Eshays.
Javelin: Throw stick.

I suggest getting an honorable mention  as the debater in the top 20 with the most no-vote ties: 8 of 11 ties that no one, zip, nada, bothered to read and vote. Over 400 of you who are "active," which is one of the site activities, yeah?, cannot be bothered to read and vote. If I was not also in the top ten in voting [in fact, for my single year, plus presence, I've voted more often than just 7 of you], so I'm trying to contribute, and wish that more did, as well. Thanks, everybody for your ignorance. What is this site all about, anyway? It's apparently premature efactulation; a bunch of adolescents who have no idea what stuff is really all about [and yet, most of you are well. beyond the trustable age, and are not yet trustable. That's 30, by the way, to boomers]. I have two more debates in in voting with no votes; go ahead; make it a round 10. There happen to be two more in voting with no votes. Make it an even dozen no vote ties. Congratulations. I have a life and I'll get back to it.

Au revoir.
Typical of Fauxlaw to leave with a flurry of complaints of which literally zero, zip, nada people care about. What less did the membership except than from the great Fauxlaw to exists with a cacophony of mud sticks thrown at "everybody",  who neck deep in "ignorance". There's a saying which says that when someone is gone, they live on through their legacy, and the things they leave behind. I suppose what we have from Fauxlaw is the tantrum throwing geezer who hates the "ignorant" membership, and who doesn't understand the fundamentals of the English language.

How do you think Jon fits in the picture here? Here's currently the twitter king, but not much action from him lately. He definitely won't take the Stipe fight, as the risks is high and reward is low, and he's said a couple times that he's only going for Francis, or whoever has the belt. I'm personally a huge Jon fan but fighting Francis is like fighting a titan.

Ethics, philosophy, theology, politics and morality essays.
I've been thinking of widening my scope of debate outside of theology and Christianity. Does anyone have any essays about any topics (Ethics, philosophy, theology, politics, morality etc.) that they would be willing to share to everyone to read?

9sk Special Edition: Undefeatable Vs Intelligence Video Game Debate Revived
I'll keep it short.

Undefeatable R1

  1. Opens with studies which support the notion that videogames are beneficial. Simple
  2. Pre-rebutts the common belief that video games are not inherently evil.
Intel R1

  1. Video games, though beneficial, are not necessary.
    1. If learning is already fun, there is no need for video games
  2. The games that are used are not enjoyed by children i.e., blasting asteroids by answering maths equations.
  3. Video games cause problems such as
    1. competition
    2. price
Verdict

  • Undefeatables first argument is simple, though work needs to be done, as intel buys it, and builds his primary argument on the notion that even IF videogames are beneficial, they are not necessary.
  • I buy intels necessity argument. As a comparison, doing 5000 push ups everyday is beneficial for health, yet school would never (I would think) impose this in their physical education classes as it is not necessary for the purpose of physical education. Furthermore, consider typing at a high speed. Being able to type 130 WPM is certainly beneficial but it shouldn't be a mandate that they hold their students at.
    • However, I do think this point can be implemented better, and the above issue I pose could be better articulated. Thus far, the necessity argument revolves around students association with video games, vice versa.
  • I don't buy intels 2nd argument. Though it is true that games which schools employ are can be unenjoyable, the studies clearly indicate that they benefit students learning. In education, enjoyment is not the key factor. Just like how grinding out maths equations can be "boring", video games of which are not considered the "highest tier" do not need to be entertaining. So long as they are beneficial, they can substitute tradition means of learning.
Undefeatable R2

  1. Begins by rebutting the necessity argument. They quote intel
    1. If so, kids will either associate learning with video games, expecting fun games to cover all kinds of materials taught ever; or they will associate video games with learning, hating school because the games suck.
  2. and assert that false expectations of intense Gulag battles during class can be avoided if teachers properly warn their students what is to come.
Intel R2

  1. Affirms the necessity argument.
    1. The two arguments Pro has presented are both of that the correct video games will enhance the learning experience, but nowhere that they are essential. Bottom line: If the effects of video games in school can be replaced by something that can be accomplished by a teacher, a staple of paper, and a single screen, then there is no need for video games because obviously, the latter is MUCH more expensive, with devices minimum at the number of a single class.
  2. and takes the route which I wished to see from above. Instead of focusing on how trash video games will makes students think school is, likewise, trash Intel focuses on the point that video games are not necessary, and that the current means of education suffice.
  3. Introduces the idea of the Law. Intel points out that the description calls for a mandatory statute that video games be implemented into the school curricula. Video games can be helpful, but they are not a necessity that is to be enforced by legal mandate.
Verdict

  • As Intel switched up their argument into my desired route (focusing more on necessity rather than the linkage of emotion between video games and learning), the debate boils down to how Undefeatable can respond, as this is quite a different perspective than the one introduced in the first round.
Undefeatable R3

  1. Opens once more by affirming the notion that video games are correlated with higher academic achievement. This does not rebut the necessity argument, Intel's argument grants that this is true, and builds on the idea that even if video games are beneficial, they are not necessary.
  2. This notion is further supported by Undefeatable rebutting Intel's statement that the "practicality in Virtuality: Finding Student Meaning in Video Game Education" is not relevant to the debate. He aptly replies "Con decides that he is more credible than experts".
Intel R3

  1. As alluded to above, the necessity argument is not rebutted. Intel points out that he agrees that video games can be beneficial, but asserts that they are not a necessary part of education.
Verdict

I would have voted for Intel. His argument from necessity was constantly (misintentionally, I think) misinterpreted. Though video games are beneficial, they are not a necessary tool for learning. Hence the resolution fails.

How Did Jesus Do It?
-->
@Stephen
For myself I accept that there could well have been a man named Jesus that believed himself to be king of the Jews and the that the Romans put him to death for crimes against the state of Rome, along with another man of similar name, Jesus Barabbas. But I draw the line at, and I simply refuse to, accept the so called "miracles".
I think we are on the same page. When people refer to Jesus, they attach connotations such as Godly and miraculous. I accept that Jesus, as a terrible misunderstood mortal man could exist bu the essence of Jesus, that is that he is a God conceived of a virgin mother, is simply untrue.

The meaning of death
-->
@Tradesecret

Physical death- when the body no longer has breath and decays.

Spiritual death - when the spiritual relationship between God and man is severed.

Covenantal death - when the breach of the covenant brings the sanction of covenantal death within the limitations of the specific institution.
Do you have evidence for claims 2 and 3?

He didn't.
Do you mean that it didn't happen at all, Bones?
I didn't read the post but looking at the sentence how did Jesus do it, using my knowledge that the subject, being Jesus, doesn't exist, I draw the conclusion that whatever this imaginary man did probably didn't happen in the objective world.

@Theweakeredge

Between 1977 and 1999, “right-to-carry laws reduced both the frequency and the severity of mass public shootings; and to the extent to which mass shootings still occurred, they took place in those tiny areas in the states where permitted concealed handguns were not allowed,” found Bill Landes of the University of Chicago and Lott.

God is not all powerful and it is impossible to be all powerful

@Tradesecret
God cannot make a rock so big he can't lift it.  Nor can God make a square a circle.   He can't do these things - not because he not powerful - but because they are illogical conundrums that don't make sense.
So God is bound within logic i.e, he cannot do that which is not logical? Then who created logic? Surely the creator of logic can escape logic.

You're not addressing the fact that desiring the ends does not necessarily entail desiring the means. So the act, the means, is not desirable. Only the result
But the fact of the matter is that you value the result so much you are willing to override the discomfort of waking up early with the results.

Consider the following example. Not a lot of people like working out (the act of lifting weights), but almost everyone loves the result, that is, health and looks. However, as human beings, we are able to weigh and judge and action in it's entirety. This is further proven through the fact that people often take vaccinations despite the physical discomfort of doing so. The reason people get their jabs is because despite them not "wanting" the pain of the shot, they weigh the goods and find that doing so is a larger benefit, i.e something they want.

You can't just say that, when I find something your free will can't do, it's not free will. Free will is the ability to make your own choices with regards to, well, choices. It is a choice to be Catholic just like how its a choice to be Islam.

But I don't desire the "bad." So you shouldn't say I desire the end, therefore I desire the means of attaining that end. My desire rests in the attainment of the goal, not necessarily the means of attaining it.
But we are discussing a single act, that is, getting up at 4. Overall, you do want to do it. At an individual level, you do not want to get up but when judging the action in perspective to your life, you do want to get up at 4 for the sake of discipline.

I'm not denying the fact that there are things that you don't like. However, getting up early as a package, is something which you believe the goods outweigh the bad, hence something you want to do.

I don't desire the thing I hate, I desire something else.
But as an overall package, you want to wake up early because you weigh the cost and benefit of doing so and find that sticking to your resolution is something you want to do.

The desire to be disciplined motivates me to will over my loathing of getting up early.
Exactly. Even though you do not like the feeling of getting up, you still want to as your desire to stick to your resolution. You still want to get up, because your want to stay disciplined is more rewarding than sleeping in.

I get up early every day for the discipline.
So you get up everyday because you want to be discipled. Even though you do not directly enjoy getting up early, you still want to because your desire to be disciplined overrides the discomfort of waking up early.

But you still went anyways because you wanted to.

nope.
Name me an instance in which you did something which you both didn't want to and weren't forced to.

This isn't about becoming a female, this is about loving a male. If you are a heterosexual male, and lust for male is simply a mind thing which requires no physical change, surely you can change your mind about your sexuality?
if it isnt a choice to begin with then it doesnt fit free will definition

But surely you can use your "free will" to want to be gay? Perhaps this isn't the best example, but consider belief. I challenge you, as a Catholic to use your free will and believe Islam. This is a choice that you can make.

free will does not require a justification for your action to be done. therefore your entire stupid thought experiment is wrong
So you're saying that you'e free, yet you can't even tell me why you're doing what you'e doing. Surely if you "chose" to do something, you can tell me why you chose to do it. Otherwise, it would just be random.

"You can only ever do something if you want to"

why? theres plenty of times in my lifetime that i would recall not wanting to do something but going anyway
But you still went anyways because you wanted to.

"Assuming your heterosexual, try and want to be gay. Try and want to love your own sex. Impossible. "

thats not really free will. That is trying to fight the natural way you are born. Free will refers to the choices and the will that you have. If you are born a male, no free will allows you to become female.
This isn't about becoming a female, this is about loving a male. If you are a heterosexual male, and lust for male is simply a mind thing which requires no physical change, surely you can change your mind about your sexuality?

free will is making choices that you wish to make. uncased actions, such as the one you mention about homosexuality dont count for free will
Don't you see that this leads to an infinite regress? You say you want to do something, but free will requires you to be able to justify why you did what you did. And then you give a reason for why you did what you did, but then why did you do the thing which you did?

For example, consider the following thought experiment.

Pick a random country. Any country. Notice this processes which you are going through. Notice the selecting and the choosing, and the "freeness "which you are going through. What if I were to say that this very processes proves that free will does not exist?

In order to unpack this, we must first establish the options that one has to pick.

1)A person is not free to choose a country which they do not know exists.
2)A person cannot choose a country which didn't occur to them
3)You can only choose what occurs to you

The first option is obvious. If you don't know it, then you cannot choose it. You are not free to choose it, so to speak.

The second option however, is a little more confronting. Perhaps all readers know about Argentina but for some reason, your Argentina neurons were not functioning and you did you think it it. This then begs the question, what canyon think about?

The third option is to unpack what you can choose. Say you chose America. The first thing to note is that you only "chose" it because it occurred to you. But how do you choose what occurs to you? The process of something occurring toyon is unsolicited, it is impossible to choose what occurs to you.

Secondly, say the countries America and China occurred to you (you did not choose for these two countries to occur to you, they simply did). Ask yourself, why did you choose America? When subjects in a lab are asked to justify their actions(whilst under the influence of some independent variable) the test subject usually does not know the real reason why their actions occurred the way that they did (assuming an experienced experimenter was involved). However, this isn't to say they don't have a tale to tell. If you asked a person who has been hypnotised why they did certain things, they usually have bizarre reasons forwhy the did what they did (though unconvincing to us, the subject remains convinced of their tale). Returning to the case of free will, why does one choose Americas opposed to China. Well, one may say that "they just had an American hotdog last night and so America appealed to them". However, this is no justification, it is merely stating a fact. It's like if you asked a murderer why they murdered and they said "I killed him". So why choose America instead of China because you ate a hotdog? Why couldn't you think "well I've just had a hotdog, let's switch things up, I'll choose China". This process of "choosing" because of your apparent "justification" is no more than your neurons making a decision for you and you being aware of this decision.

You cannot know how things occur to you and neither can you know why you "chose" the option of which you did.

The many debates on systemic racism in America are flawed

If everyone in the system is racist,
It should be obvious that everyone in the system is not racist. Come on.
Also, I literally said

If everyone in the system is racist, I agree that this is not systemic racism as defined by you, but it as good is.
I wasn't saying that everyone in the system is racist. I'm saying that IF they are racist, THEN that is not proof of systemic racism as defined by you.

Well enough people are racist to allow disparities in healthcare and education.

Answer the question, Do you believe individual racism is an urgent issue which needs to be addressed?

I can see your distinction between the individual and the system, but I think that's too surface level. If everyone in the system is racist, I agree that this is not systemic racism as defined by you, but it as good is. What is the practical difference between a systemically racist organisation, and one which does nothing to prevent it's individuals from being racist?

Do you believe individual racism is an urgent issue which needs to be addressed?

ok, well you have the ability to make your own choices
No you don't. Consider the following.

P1. You can only ever do something if you want to or if you are forced to.
  • Truism. Try and name an action which you "chose" to do which you didn't want to do and weren't forced.
P2. Being forced to do something is not illustrative of free will.
  • Truism.
P3. You cannot choose what you want.
  • Assuming your heterosexual, try and want to be gay. Try and want to love your own sex. Impossible.

P4. If the two conditions of free will are not satisfied, determinism is true.

C1. Determinism is true.

With the question being would you rather spend a year in prison or be in prison until you solve the rubix cube, you should pick the cube option. Solving means getting all the colours on one side, which means you can unassemble the cube and put it together without use of algorithms.

If it does, Bones , then I will take that as me being correct and him being the bible ignorant High Priest that he claims to be.  Either god wanted us to  acquire knowledge or he didn't? The bible say he didn't. And he appears to have god quite upset that we listened to another side of the story .
