@RationalMadman
Vote rigging is when someone solicits deliberately biased votes in order to rig the outcome of a vote. Votes stemming from vote rigging will be removed. It is not vote rigging to ask for someone to cast a fair vote. Vote trading may or may not be vote rigging, depending on whether the outcome of the traded votes is fixed or agreed upon before the debates are evaluated by the voters.

Aloha!
With summertime approaching, I am hoping to run a solid tournament here on DART. The last tournament ended up with almost everyone flaking out. I'm looking for a minimum of 8 debaters and a maximum of 12.
Topic Selection
Debaters, in consultation with their opponents, may create and choose their own topics. Debaters have five days from this post to decide upon a topic and can do whatever topics they want. Debaters are prohibited from doing humorous or troll topics; if you have a question about what that means, please ask me. Should debaters fail to agree to a topic, I will randomly assign them a topic from the National Speech and Debate Association; I will also randomly assign debaters their side on the topic. In such a situation, each debater will be allowed to strike up to two of the 16 topics, making them ineligible for me to assign.
Sign-Ups
Anyone with at least 3 debates where they did not forfeit is eligible to sign up. Hopefully, the tournament will start within the next few weeks.
Pairings
The tournament has been set up as a power-paired bracket (with high-low pairings) based on competitors' ELO scores at the time sign-ups closed

@blamonkey
Yeah - though this is a theological/philosophical debates which tend to be longer. Look at debates with Bart Ehrman or Tovia Singer. Cases can be 30 mins long and the full debate can take up to 2.5-3 hours.

Lol. Lucifer/the Devil does not exist. In traditional Judaism, Satan is an angel of God who has the mission of tempting people and being the prosecutor before the heavenly court. Angels do not have free will and thus are not fallen.

I agree with this. On Edeb8 there is an option to give up to a week and to even ask your opponent for extra time. I think that would be beneficial here and it would definitely be beneficial to me.

@bsh1
Yeah, it does since that's what we had to do on DDO. Though I think it would be nice to be able to edit the OP.

@bsh1
Just a thought - since you can edit the OP, it would be helpful to keep the OP list updated as well to make the lists easier to keep track of.

This has been an issue for quite some time. It has been the stare decisis of the voting team to not enforce "special rules" of the debate (i.e. the voters must vote for me or their votes will be removed by the mod team). This includes special rules such as "Virtuoso may not vote on this debate." This has led to some controversy and I want to open this up for discussion. If a person states "X may not vote on this debate" should we, the mod team, remove those votes even if they are otherwise sufficient?
Thanks for your cooperation!

Moderator Voting FAQs
1) Why was my vote removed but that other horrible vote that doesn't explain anything allowed to stand? My vote is better than so many other crappy votes cast on the site.
Moderators tend to review only the votes that were reported. If you find a “bad” vote and would like the moderators to review it, simply hit the red flag and we will get to it as soon as possible.
2) I've reported a vote but it wasn't removed.
Several possibilities: (1) The vote passes moderation review. (2) We haven't processed the reports yet (this usually happens in 24-72 hours). (3) The vote is past the statute of limitations. (4) The debate is a non-serious/troll debate.
3) What are the requirements for voting?
In order to be eligible to vote, accounts must have read the site's COC AND completed at least 2 non-troll debates without any forfeits OR posted 100 forum posts. Once you have done those things, you will gain the right to vote.
4) My voting rights were revoked. Now what?
If your votes have constantly been removed, the moderator team will contact you and coach you through the voting process to ensure that you fully understand our standards. If your rights have been removed, you must appeal to the moderator team and write a sufficient RFD on a debate that is at least 3 rounds and is not forfeited.
5) I didn't know the voting guidelines. Why was I punished for something I never agreed to do?
If you have the right to vote, it means that you at least read the COC. Ignorance is not an excuse for failing to vote properly.
6) I want to explain my vote in detail but it won't fit in the voting comment box.
Feel free to use the comments section of the debate to elaborate on your vote. You can use multiple comments if you want. You can also use a Google doc and paste the link to the comment box.
7) Can I revote once I've had my vote removed?
Of course (assuming you have your voting privileges) - as long as it is a different vote with an effort to solve the initial issues with it that caused it to be removed. Copy-pasting the same vote will cause it to be removed again along with potentially other sanctions.

@Dustandashes
1. The LXX is unreliable. At best we can say that the LXX mistranslates this passage. There are good reasons to believe this that I will go into later.
2. And.,..there are many instances where it can't mean virgin such as in Mishle 30:18-20
There are three things which are too wonderful for me, for which I do not understand: 19the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a young woman [b’almah][/b’almah]. 20This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, “I have done no wrong.”
Obviously cannot be a virgin.
3. Actually, the opposite is true! The next two Hebrew words show the woman is already pregnant. Also, what good is a sign that no one can see? No one saw that Mary was a virgin when she was conceived. Literally, no one saw this! What then is the sign? The sign is first in the child's name (Immanuel being a prophetic name) and that the timing of his birth will give the king a timeline for when his fears will be over.

@Speedrace
What does one have to do to get such a position? It sounds like fun :O
From the new member FAQ:
A: One may become a moderator if appointed to the position by the site owner or the chief moderator.
Effectively whenever we need a new moderator, bsh and I discuss internally members of the site that we would trust with that position and who would make a good fit. When we look for moderators, we look for high-quality members who are consistently active, generally well-liked, and have no major infraction points against them.
