The infection of the trend described in the first post of this thread into debateart is something I have noticed and alluded to in the past, and I am not exaggerating when I say this is precisely 100% the reason I don't find this community to be worth my time in posting anymore. It's not 80% the reason I stopped posting but there were other factors involved or anything like that, it is THE reason and Double_R touching on the reason for me semi-quitting is the only reason I decided to make a few posts today. I still lurk for a few minutes every few days but suspect even that will soon stop.
To be clear, and this should be obvious to any thinking person but the thread got derailed a bit by people using the tactics described in the opening post so I probably need to clarify, I am not saying that I stopped posting because people exist that are pro-Trump. If that is what you got from the above then you need to work on your reading comprehension. I am specifically referencing the tactic of "thought terminating cliches" and the toxic personality that tends to develop around those that use such quippy one-liners to "win" a conversation. (what the fuck is winning a conversation anyway? nevermind, this post isn't about that).
So yeah, I never made a formal goodbye post so I guess this is it... hence the multiple tags. It's been a fun 8 years folks, but the name I chose to represent me is latin for "student of learning" (ignore the fact that it is a poor quality translation) because that phrase encapsulates my goal when I joined DDO eight years ago, to expose myself to others of different views who use reason to explain why they have those views and learn from these reasoned arguments. I realized a few months ago that this community no longer helps with that goal and has not done so for quite some time, and this opening post perfectly explains why I came to that conclusion.
So yeah, I can only tag 5 people so I'll just tag a handful that I have known from the beginning when I first joined DDO and if it turns out that I never relapse into posting again (god I hope I don't) and anyone else not tagged here ever asks "hey, where did DD ever go off to?" just link them here.

I was paraphrasing a bit. The exact relevant quotes and cooresponding post numbers come from the bestiality thread (post 69 is multi-paragraph so I cut out the less relevant bits, feel free to double check that I am not taking his words out of context after reading this post) and are as follows:

So on one hand no he isn't directly saying "sex with minors is okay", but on the other hand that's not what I claimed. Compare the above exchange to my paraphrasing in post 20 of this thread, which was what you asked me to back up and read as follows:
Concern over physical harm and lack of consent are not sufficient reason to condemn sex with minors.
He has later gone on to say that while these arguments are insufficient that doesn't mean he doesn't think there are other arguments which are sufficient. Technically grammatically correct I suppose, though he hasn't to my knowledge actually directly said what these hypothetical other arguments might be.
He went on to clarify that the reason these reasons are insufficient is because not every act of pedophilia is necessarily physically harmful or done without consent (post 26 of this thread) so take what you will from that.

But in seriousness, work does need to be done if society is to be maintained at its current comfort level. n8nrgmi comes around to this idea a bit in post 3 so the rest of what I say is directed more generally at addressing the topic itself rather than specifically at him.
It's nice to have shelter, but that requires someone to build it. The people building it rely on other people to produce the raw materials (stone, wood, brick, etc.). Both of those groups rely on other people to transport these raw materials.
If these groups of people were not working we would lack shelter. Survivable, but unpleasant.
It's nice to have ready supplies of food, but that requires someone to maintain the storehouses that we retrieve our food from. The people doing that rely on other people to produce the food in question, fisherman and farmers and so on. Both of those groups rely on other people to transport these raw materials.
If these groups of people were not working we would lack the easy food supply we have now. Survivable, but unpleasant.
It's nice to live in a sanitary environment, but that requires... you see where this is going. Sewer construction and maintenance, pest exterminators, raw materials, etc. Not to mention all the transporting being done up until now needing an infrastructure... Highways, ports, the list goes on.
If these groups were not working... you get the idea. Survivable, but unpleasant.
Living in modern society isn't a case of "do work or die". For all of the above to work requires people to make it work. By working. Working is, however, well... unpleasant. So if we want to avoid the other unpleasantness we as a population require as many people as possible to embrace the unpleasantness of work.
There are classes of people able to live in luxury without doing work. Rich CEOs, investors, televangelists, real estate tycoons, and so on. That is a flaw in the system certainly, and something that should be addressed if possible rather than ignored, but the point is that the flaw is not "work is required".

I'm trying to think of some good arguments to go against taxing the rich to Eisenhower levels (93%), but it's hard.
There are plenty of "taxes are for poor people" type of ideas out there. If you once held such ideas but no longer do, well changing your mind about something isn't bad. I do it all the time. It does, however, at least mean that you should understand the mindset even if you no longer agree with it.
