look at her suddenly move away after the alleged nipple pinch
Yes I saw that, and it doesn’t really help your case. If she were pinched we would expect to see more of a jump, instead what we see is a slow move out of the way.

Either way, it’s not conclusive. You are still putting an awful lot behind very little evidence and ignoring the implications of doing so. You spoke about critical thinking before, this is the exact opposite.

you should always listen to the majority opinion. Fuck having critical reasoning skills when you can just make an appeal to authority
The fallacy in an appeal to authority fallacy, is when you appeal to something that is not an authority.

The overwhelming majority of the medical industry is an authority on medicine.

Some guy on Twitter who claims to be a doctor… not an authority.

Disregarding the bulk of the medical profession while believing some dude on Twitter does not make you a critically thinking intellectual.

The video is inconclusive. His fingers are in position where he could be pinching her, or it could just be the position of his hand. No way to tell, so in the absence of being able to see it definitively we turn to Occam’s razor; Is it simpler that this was accidental positioning due to an absent minded Biden, or is it simpler that Biden as Vice President of the United States would decide that it’s worth it to pretend to be focusing on the adults so that he could pinch the nipple of a little girl knowing he had a dozen cameras pointed right at him?

As usual, the far more complex and presumptive explanation is the one you go with.

No one I know is arguing that the news is not biased, we’re responding to the fallacious argument that media bias is out of control or that the media is untrustworthy merely because they are not treating right wing absurdity the same as what comes out of the left. There is no equivalent between the two, so there should be no expectation of equal treatment.

I never said it wasn’t reasonable. If you are actually following the thread you are commenting on you would know that the point I am making is in response to the OP’s claim that electric vehicles are not viable. The fact that a fleet of buses failed is not an argument to support that claim. That’s all.

Trump claims he saved millions of lives from COVID  by banning travel from China, then says it’s a hoax, it’s like the flu, never wears a mask or encourages social distancing, holds packed rally after rally in COVID hotspots = INCOHERENT
So your attempt to make Trump seem coherent on COVID is to claim that he never banned travel from China. Wow, that makes it so much worse.

“We’re the ones that gave the great response, and we’re the ones that kept China out of here. ... If I didn’t do that early call on China — and nobody wanted that to happen. Everybody thought it was just unnecessary to do it.” - Wed 3/25/20

“Everybody was against it. Almost everybody, I would say, was just absolutely against it. ... I made a decision to close off to China that was weeks early. ... And I must say, doctors — nobody wanted to make that decision at the time.” — Fox News virtual town hall Tuesday 3/24/20

“I’ll tell you how prepared I was, I called for a ban.” — news briefing on March 19 2020

“And if we didn’t do that, thousands and thousands of people would have died.” Wednesday March 25 2020

Right. Saved thousands of lives from a hoax that wasn’t worth pushing for any public health measures to show down, unless those measures could be sold to his base as keeping more non white people out.

Not only does this fail to make him appear any more incoherent but it also shows him yet again to be a complete liar. Why do you defend this man? What is wrong with you?

Not reading the rest of your links. If you don’t have time to make your own arguments I don’t have time to read them.

COHERENCE is "Unified; sticking together; Orderly, logical and consistent.   Biden's actions follow his public statements.  His public statements are in agreement with prior statements"

Trump promises infrastructure but then never writes one bill his whole presidency=INCOHERENT
Biden promises infrastructure, gets all Dems on board and now we're waiting to see if GOP will honor their campaign promises=COHERENT
Trump promises to leave Afghanistan but then takes no action to remove troop=INCOHERENT
Biden promises to leave Afghanistan before Sept and mid-July completes that task = COHERENT
Trump claims he saved millions of lives from COVID  by banning travel from China, then says it’s a hoax, it’s like the flu, never wears a mask or encourages social distancing, holds packed rally after rally in COVID hotspots = INCOHERENT

Trump proclaims himself the law and order president, said we need more police officers and we need to get tougher on crime, then repeatedly attacks Joe Biden for sponsoring the 94 crime bill which put 100,000 more cops on the streets and harshness sentences = INCOHERENT

Trump begins his campaign calling Mexicans rapists and calling for the ban of Muslims, then proclaims himself the least racist president ever. = INCOHERENT

Yeah, I do care. I expect that an elected President be coherent.
And yet you are perfectly fine with this…

Hannity: “What is one of your top priority agenda items for a second term?”

Trump:  “Well, one of the things that will be really great, you know the word experience is still good. I always say talent is more important than experience. I’ve always said that. But the word experience is a very important word. It’s an — a very important meaning.

I never did this before. I never slept over in Washington. I was in Washington, I think, 17 times. All of a sudden, I’m president of the United States. You know the story. I’m riding down Pennsylvania Avenue with our First Lady and I say, ‘This is great. But I didn’t know very many people in Washington. It wasn’t my thing. I was from Manhattan, from New York. Now I know everybody, and I have great people in the administration.”

You make some mistakes. Like, you know, an idiot like Bolton. All he wanted to do was drop bombs on everybody. You don’t have to drop bombs on everybody. You don’t have to kill people.”

Find me one Biden excerpt that compares to this. No not some stutter or moment of confusion, a complete incoherent mess of an answer that this was. And I could literally pull up 100 more just like it. This is just how he talks.

Even crazier is that this is the easiest question he could possibly get. He’s been president for 4 years  and campaigning for a second term the entire time. How on earth does he not know why he’s running?

You don’t care about coherence.

"According to an October 2020 article by The Hill, at least 119 newspaper editorials endorsed Biden, while only 6 endorsed Trump. While being a left-leaning publication does not disqualify a publication from providing objective media coverage, it means that the American media establishment has essentially become an extension of the Biden-Harris campaign…”
Seems like you don’t understand the difference between objective journalism and neutral journalism. In a perfect world they would be the same, but that’s clearly not the case here. A journalist’s job is to be objective. They are protected by the constitution for the literal purpose of having someone to be our reality gate keepers.

What never ceases to amaze me is how “liberal bias” in the media is twisted from a serious warning about Trump into an indictment of the media itself. This is like accusing the umpire of impropriety merely because they called a strike.

Just look around. Many of those publications never before endorsed a democrat or haven’t in decades. No surviving republican president endorsed Trump. The former Republican speaker of the house did not vote for Trump. 10 republican congressman voted to impeach Trump. Without even looking at any of the facts, this one is already obvious.

But it’s worse then that. Forget policy for a moment, just look at the man. Trump is the literal antithesis of everything we teach our children to be, and the antithesis of everything we learned in civics class a president was supposed to be. So how on earth do you turn criticism of him into an argument against those criticizing him?

Once again, what was the name of the officer who shot Ashli Babitt and why are the Feds covering up his name.

If this were a black man shot during the Summer of Love then there would be Civil War if the identify of the officer wasn’t revealed.
Protests over black men being shot by police is centered around the fact that the police came towards them and they were not a threat.

Ashli Babbit was part of a mob storming onto a chamber where other members of congress were actively fleeing. She was both coming towards them and a threat.

Please explain why you can’t tell the difference between these two things.

controversial view: there's widespread discrimination but not widespread racism
-->
@n8nrgmi
it's discrimination because the factor that is being used to make a decision is skin color, not the content of the person's character. but i dont think it's prejudicial in an unreasonable way.
I actually do agree with the sentiment on this one point. Discrimination really is nothing more than the same induction we use towards everything else in life just applied towards people. If for example a person’s lived experience tells them that renting to or hiring black people will likely be detrimental to their business, I do think it’s reasonable for that person to be concerned about it.

Two problems though. One is that reasonable does not = right. We all at some point in our lives have been treated a certain way because of something that had nothing to do with us. So even in the case where a given stereotype is mostly accurate, if you believe we should all be treated as individuals and held to account based on our actions/decisions then it’s easy to see why the potential reasonableness of a discriminatory attitude must take a back seat. And it might not always be easy, but anyone who cares at all about being a good person should work to try and rid themselves of these attitudes.

The other is that many of these cases are not actual lived experiences, it’s the result of cherry picking that goes on when people share stories of things that happened to them or things they saw on Instagram. No one shares the story of the guy who helped them with their groceries, so if this is where you’re getting your information from of course it’s just going to reinforce whatever stereotype you already accept. Most people are good, it’s just easy for us to accept those negative stereotypes because we often don’t spend enough of our time in the spaces of those we tend to discriminate against.

Guess what? In this case you’re innocent until proven guilty. Millions of dollars, over 2 and half years and Mueller couldn’t find enough.
Mueller couldn’t find enough because the  he was required to meet a standard of beyond a reasonable doubt. That’s a legal standard, and we apply it because we value freedom of the innocent over punishing the guilty. That has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation.

You are accusing the media of not having enough to justify its claims. That’s about logic, and you can’t make the case on those grounds which is why you resort to this obfuscation.

 The “mainstream” claim is not that Trump and Putin met regularly where Trump received his orders. The claim is that his campaign understood that Russia was working on their behalf, welcomed it, and did everything they could to amplify the results of Russia’s efforts. That’s not deniable. It’s also not deniable that Trump has some sort of affliction towards Russia, and whether wittingly or unwittingly, he absolutely helped Russia achieve many of its foreign policy goals in a way Putin never dreamed would become actualized reality.

It’s hard to care about something if nothing illegal was done. Cause guess what? That’s what Mueller said.
Mueller was running a federal investigation, so *his* concern, as the head of this investigation and person whose name would be on the final report was the legalality or illegality that could be proven in a court of law. Everything else was just politics, which he viewed as his responsibility to stay out of.

The idea that we shouldn’t care about it if it’s legal is absurd, and you would not accept that it for a second if we were talking about Biden, Obama, or Hillary and you know it.

"Racism" is nebulous and cannot be described in an internally consistent way that maps onto its application in reality -- that's what I'm arguing makes it nonsense.

You’re not stupid. You know damn well that Mueller would never say no collusion cause it’s not even a legal term that applies here. Being called a Russian Agent is astronomically worse, especially if it’s literally proven false.
Turns out that when…

- You have no problem calling out everyone from American allies to celebrities for anything they do which you don’t like, but refuse to condemn Putin for anything, including killing journalists to keep himself in power

- Your campaign chairman gave your internal polling data to a Russian agent

- Nearly everyone associated with your campaign had Russian contacts that they lied about

- Your entire campaign leadership team took a meeting with someone who literally disclosed that the meeting would be in regards to “Russia and Its government’s support for Mr. Trump”

- Your *only* input to the republican platform was to remove anti Russian language

- You take a private meeting with Putin in which you kick out every American and and afterward destroy the translator’s notes, then never speak of the meeting again

- nearly every piece of your foreign policy goes against every previous administration but yet aligns with what Russia wants

- too many more to list

…you do all that you’re going to get called a Russian agent. That’s not on the media, that’s on Trump.

It never ceases to amaze me how the party of personal responsibility always paints Trump as the victim every time the world reacts to the stupid things he says and does. We have never in our history seen such a vile childish narcissistic imbecile in power before. Of course he will be hounded. That’s common sense.

Most of the people that do care are likely racist themselves as you have to be under the mad delusion that objective races exist for racists to exist.
You really need to drop this argument. Racism describes a mindset towards a group of people based on superficial characteristics. There is nothing about that which requires objectivity. In fact the idea is as subjective as it gets, because the word describes what someone themselves decided to single out.

Arguing that racists don’t exist on such an absurdly irrelevant and misguided technicality strongly suggests that you have a vested personal interest in this point.

if covid and the Spanish flu had the same exact amount of victims that would be suspicious
No, it wouldn’t. At all. You completely disregard Occam’s Razor and why it matters.

Coincidences happen, in fact it is imbedded into the law of large numbers. Given enough opportunities, the occurrence of statistical improbabilities become statistical certainties. You found an article from 20 years before the Holocaust referring to the words Holocaust and 6 million. Is that more easily explained as the result cherry picking one of millions of articles written between these events or a global conspiracy? If COVID and the Spanish flu both had the same number of victims, is that more easily explained as a coincidence or global conspiracy? For you the answer is always the latter, despite the reality of how statistical probabilities work.

Calling them the establishment, let's them know we know they have forgotten their responsibility to their constituents and have focused on their elitism.
That’s my point. There’s nothing about being in “the establishment” that requires one to be guilty of this. It’s an intellectually lazy way to attack someone without making any case as to why that group or individual deserves such criticism by blaming them for collective results which they may or may not have contributed to.

To be so stupid as to think that their are no deeply entrenched Washington elite is stupid. You have whole dynasties like the Bush's, Clinton's and Kennedies and other long time politicians
What you are describing is an inherent part of human nature, there will always be some clique or group of individuals with a high amount of power and/or influence, and that group will often become well established. That’s not a bogeyman to fight against. The establishment is a baton. You don’t eradicate it, you just replace it. So to say that this is what you’re fighting against is not only absurd but it’s intellectually dishonest. You have no problem with the establishment when it’s working for you, so instead of pretending that this is really what you care about, why not focus on the actual issues?

…Because labeling something as “the establishment” is easier. Not because it makes actual sense, but because it appeals to people’s emotions and particularly people’s sense of inferiority. Everyone wants to hate those who are in charge or those whom they see as above them. It’s just resentment, which is always easier to conjure up and capitalize on than making a valid argument.

It doesn't matter how much fraud is shown, the response will always be the same, so what, it wasn't enough to change the election.
That will be the response until you can provide evidence to the contrary. That’s how it works, and that’s how it’s supposed to work.

Which of course cant be proved because all the evidence has already been destroyed.
First of all no it hasn’t, they still have the ballots. Well except Arizona who turned their ballots over to a private company run by a Qanon conspiracy theorist. Those might as well be destroyed because no discrepancy found at this point could ever be trusted.

But more importantly, if it can’t be proved then you have no reason to believe it. Logic 101.

The key piece of proof is always lost, missing or wont be allowed to be examined.
Yes, that’s how conspiracy theories work. They’re unfalsifiable, so every time what’s asked for is provided the goal posts move to the next thing.

The ballots have been counted, recounted and counted again, all certified by republican officials. 60 court cases thrown out, many by Trump appointed judges. So ask yourself, what would make you believe it wasn’t stolen? I suspect you have no real world answer.

If I go to China, I should complain about Asian privilege, or I go the the Congo, I ought complain about Black privilege?
I don’t know enough the history of others countries regarding race to comment, I don’t see what it has to do with this though. Of in another country, one ethnic group was enslaved, then segregated, then redlined, etc. I would take the same positions I do here.

But the 'idea of CRT, seems to be, to push equal treatment, for a 'different group, never mind that they are different.
 All people are different. We all have different skills, different physical characteristics, different mental abilities, etc. That has nothing to do with how we should be treated. Being treated equally does not mean you end up in the same place.

The idea behind CRT is that race is the central ordering conflict in our society. It’s more backwards looking rather than forward, focusing on how we got here. The question of what we do about it is another conversation. This is why all the national backlash against it is so absurd, the people criticizing it the loudest have no idea what it is.

Election frayd never happened. It is impossible for elections to be wrong

Also oromagi

Here are several examples of election fraud.
Election fraud is a broad term. When we say it doesn’t happen we’re not talking about anecdotes, we’re talking about a level of fraud that would impact the results of any election. Failure to understand this distinction is why people like you fall for this garbage. There will always be some nut out there who cheats, that doesn’t mean the entire system is flawed. Just how there are people out there who pick locks, that doesn’t mean we stop locking our doors at night.

Anecdotes are not evidence of systemic fraud.

I watched Tucker Carlson yesterday and knew this post was coming. He argued that hundreds of ballots were counted twice and went on to explain how this was not a right wing conspiracy citing the left leaning Atlanta Journal Constitution:

“The newspaper reviewed the available digital images independently and concluded that hundreds of ballots were improperly duplicated. So what does this look like exactly? Well here’s what it looks like, at a press conference yesterday…
This seemed like some pretty crazy stuff. So I decided to google it myself (something his viewers would never do). This is the first paragraph of the AJC article:

Digital ballot images made public under Georgia’s new voting law show nearly 200 ballots — including one for West — that election officials initially scanned two times last fall before a recount. There’s no indication any vote for president was counted more than once in official results. Link
So yeah…

This is how propaganda works, and you are their prime target.

There are no objective races, so there are no objective racists.
Kind of strange that someone who claims to not be a racist looks for ways to excuse racism.

Racism has a definition. If you meet that definition then you are a racist. Definitions themselves are not objective, so this is a stupid argument.

@thett3
For some of the left I think there's a denial of bad decision making in general. One thing that really grosses me out about the left and why I object to so much of the rhetoric is that they totally remove agency from people.
Agreed. I think we both recognize the flaws of each side of the spectrum but we differ on which side’s flaws should be recognized first. The way I see it, the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, etc. are still with us and it was wrong, full stop. I get that many of the people who are living with the impacts could find much better ways to go about than embracing full scale victimhood, but their circumstances are still the result of being wronged.

Something that always stuck with me from a customer service class years ago… Question: when does an explanation turn into an excuse? Answer: when you fail to apologize.

It’s basic human nature, when your plight is explained to someone else and they can’t even pretend to be empathetic about it before launching into defense mode, the reasonable impression you are left with is that they just don’t care. And if they don’t care about your plight then the explanation does not come off as genuine, or just feels like post hoc rationalization.

I feel like this sums up what’s going on in America right now. Black people are literally saying “hey, what you did to us was fucked up” and the political right not only vilifies them for it but passes laws to ensure the subject is never taught in schools. It seems like we could never resolve these differences but I really don’t think it’s that difficult. If the political right would at least pretend to care about our history and what impacts it has had on the African American community, and recognize why the black community faces the challenges it does, that alone would do more to ease racial tensions in this country than reparations ever could. Of course it wouldn’t end there, but it would be a whole different climate than what we have now.

Racism is racism....It's a natural phenomenon dictated by internal processing.

Discrimination is the natural effect....It's unavoidable but manageable.
And discrimination on the basis of race (like say calling Mexicans rapists) is the literal definition of racism.

Some people are better at managing their responses than others.
You mean some people are better at speaking in a way which both gets their point across while leaving plausible deniability. Trump is not particularly skilled at this, but when you have a cult following who will run with any excuse you give them you don’t have to be.

I haven’t seen that. I would say there are a good amount in terms of raw numbers but there’s over 300M people in this country so there is nothing you won’t find. Even within the left it’s minuscule and I know of no one with any significant platform who advocates for it.

Social Democracy or socialism
-->
@Theweakeredge
I don't think there are really any socialists here to argue with - personally progressive - socially democratic - so yeah - haven't seen any bonafide socialist here, at least not ones that talk about it regularly.
There really aren’t any socialists anywhere. The right wing just pretends they’re everywhere to keep scaring their base, and it works beautifully.

Wanna tell me why private companies cannot limit white people? Or does the 14th Amendment not matter as much as the 1st Amendment
Are you seriously trying to equate a company enforcing its own ToS to a company outright discriminating on the basis of race?

Should reparations be provided for slavery?
-->
@thett3
What do you think should be done? I consider you to be among the most rational and fair minded people who I’ve seen argue strongly for this sort of thing so what would your plan be?
I don’t exactly have an economic plan drafted onto my website but this is why I generally support policies aimed an ensuring all Americans have as close to an equal opportunity to be successful as possible. So things like ensuring that schools are equally funded so you don’t have rich kids getting a better education than kids in poor neighborhoods, progressive taxation and estate taxes, finding ways to reduce college admissions… essentially anything that targets the less advantaged aside from just handing them money.

The reason I don’t believe in reparations is because it’s the wrong approach. I believe policies targeting the less advantaged in our society the best way to move forward because it will have the effect of uplifting those who are still impacted by our past but will do it in a way that is fair and just to all Americans.

In the end I think we all believe mostly the same thing, that our fortunes are and should be the result of our decisions. What I think is largely overlooked by the political right is that the circumstances we are born into has a big impact on our ability to make good decisions.

@zedvictor4
I would call that undiplomatic.
Racism is quite undiplomatic. Why not just call it what it is?
