Yeah, that's fair point, and the real question is whether Xi can maintain control for about the 5 years it will take to pull off the retooling. As I’ve said before, China surpassing foreign manufacturing wasn’t just economic, it was historical payback for the Opium Wars. They didn’t forget, and they didn’t forgive. Chinese always play the long game.

It’s just unfortunate that it took something as disruptive as the COVID pandemic for America to wake up and realize the true cost of offshoring its manufacturing base. We traded resilience for cheapness, security for convinience, and we deserve neither.

Think about it this way: If you think americans can buy american, i.e. america can be economically independent; then why can't China? It can. The transition just hurts at first just as it would for the USA.

For most things yes, except for one biggie....food. And a starving or underfed population is hard to control.

Lol, nobody will buy that. A 3,000 dollar phone collects more warehouse dust than an uneaten BK cheeseburger.

smartphones from other producers will rise in price due to rise in demand and no batteries
Perfect, especially if Americans are part of that supply! More jobs. Better pay!

For now. They can make 80% of unsold stuff as long as they have the space to watch them decay.

China makes lots and lots of batteries—way more than anyone else! They have huge buildings and machines that help them build 80 out of every 100 batteries in the world. That sounds super impressive, like they’re winning a big race!

But making a lot of something doesn’t mean much if no one wants it. If other countries stop buying those batteries, they’ll just sit on shelves, getting dusty and old. It’s like having a toy store with no kids coming in, it doesn’t matter how many toys you made.

So the important thing isn’t just who makes the most, it’s who’s buying. People with the money make the rules, because if they stop shopping, the factories don’t win, they just get stuck with piles of stuff nobody needs.

Now imagine you make a hundred yummy Burger King cheeseburgers 🍔🍔🍔... but nobody’s hungry. Uh-oh! Now you’re just stuck with a room full of cold, sad burgers that no one wants to eat. That’s what happens when you make a ton of stuff but don’t have anyone to sell it to!

Money talks, bullshit walks. You can make a trillion widgets in your million factories, and they are worth nothing if your economic allies can't afford to buy them all.

It's the same reason why our alleged ally Germany buys so much stuff from Russia. Money talks, and bullshit walks.

China might be the factory of the world, but without deep-pocketed consumers (like the U.S. and EU), it’s just a warehouse full of unsold stuff. Germany buying from Russia despite NATO ties? Same logic. Wallet > war cry. 💸🌍
You're right BK, global trade runs on cold, hard math, not warm fuzzy alliances.

Well, Trump is Mencken's prediction come true.
A long time ago, a funny grumpy man named H. L. Mencken said people would get really tired of leaders who always made big promises but never kept them. He said one day, the regular working class folks would get so fed up that they’d pick someone very different to be in charge. And guess what? That kind of happened! People felt like the usual aloof academic leaders just talked and talked, but never really helped, so they chose someone totally new, Donald Trump. He wasn’t like the other guys in suits. People voted for him because they wanted someone to actually fix things, not just say nice stuff and do nothing. Just like Mencken guessed, the people finally said, “Enough!”

Hence the start of MAGA as Mencken predicted accurately.

Why would any serious news network give airtime to a bunch of people parroting things they don't believe because they work for someone they know is a lunatic and a blusterer who will fire them if they dare tell the truth? Even Janine Pierro is talking about a possible recession, that's how bad this plan was.

And how did that work out betting on red? Don't tell me, you probably don't do stock trading, so you don't care.

It never pays to trust fake news when managing your portfolio. This was an auto-win for any sane person knowing the left would spin an economic dip at the first opportunity. Super easy. Barely an inconvenience.

Fake news doesn't care about anything but TDS.

Instead of airing Trump's economic team, they had a parade of 24/7 TDS "experts" helping to ensure that dip happened. Thankfully, there are plenty of rich people with TDS that also helped make that dip happen. I grabbed so much stock, thank you TDS rich people. Thank you so much!

Always bet on Orange. Never CNN red.

@Mharman
The fallacy in an appeal to authority fallacy occurs when you appeal to something that is not an authority.

lol!

Appealing to a "real" authority is fallacious if the appeal is used in place of actual argument or evidence. Authority (assuming unbiased authority) might guide us on what’s likely or plausible, but it doesn’t prove squat by itself. Authority in itself is a subjective element that aids only circular reasoning. It is ultimately a social construct, not a truth engine. It’s like saying, “This is true because the expert says so,” and when asked why they’re an expert, we say, “Because they say true things.”

How do trans people feel about terms that distinguish sex?
-->
@Sidewalker
I sincerely don't understand why it is such a big issue for so many people, can anybody explain?
That's a great question, and this is imo a very important conversation to have. People generally care about whether someone is trans or not because it often involves issues related to identity, safety, and rights, especially within the context of laws and cultural norms that were originally designed to protect women and children.

Historically, laws in places like sports or single-sex spaces were meant to protect women from unfair competition and ensure their safety in spaces that could be dominated by men. These protections are being undermined by the inclusion of trans women, who may have very different physical characteristics that no amount of hormone therapy can eliminate. It's not just concerns about fairness in competitive or physical activities like sports, it's also about the safety of those women. The issue (wildly popular) is about maintaining and protecting the integrity of women’s spaces.

There is another point regarding the role of children in all of this. A majority of people are concerned about the exposure of sexuality and gender identity at an early age, thinking that kids should be allowed to grow and explore their identities naturally without being pressured to make adult-level decisions too soon before their bodies even finish biological puberty. There are legitimate worries that such exposure confuses and overly sexualizes young minds at a time when they need to work on more fundamental skill building and social skills. So the protection of children is at play here.

Generally speaking, those concerns are about ensuring that everyone’s rights are respected, while still considering fairness and safety in contexts involving women and children. In the era of the curse of TDS and the decline of woke, most people are rejecting the low-T male doctrine of throwing women and children under the bus. That's why a majority of Americans have an issue and care. Thankfully, low-T males are not in the majority. High-T males naturally protect women and appreciate women that protect their children.

Look, you don’t have to like Trump to see the overall big picture here. The very vocal frustration with the Department of Education isn’t all about hating public schools, it’s about years of massive spending with almost nothing to show for it. Instead of helping, the federal government has layered on red tape, forced schools into one-size-fits-all policies, and taken power away from local educators who actually know their students.

This isn’t about being extreme, it’s about being honest. If you’re going to be spending billions and kids aren’t reading better, aren’t doing math better, parents are pissed, and teachers are burning out... something’s broken. That’s why 2025 people want local control or school choice. Not because they want to destroy education, but because they want it to finally work.

You don’t need to be a Trump fan to admit the status quo isn’t cutting it.

Just pointing out your dissonance.

1) You said If Kamala had pretended to be as stupid as Trump in an attempt to appeal to the stupid voters, she would have lost her educated voter base.
2) You also claimed Educated people understand that choosing our political leaders will have real world impacts on our lives, and recognize that there are way bigger things to worry about than whether a candidate faked or exaggerated an accent to appeal to a certain crowd.

Guess which one of those premises I agree with.

Somehow, they think stupid and low educated makes them superior or something,
Nope, just electable. Try swallowing your pride next time. Even if it is false pride.

Ironically, a Marxist virtue is to destroy the educated bourgeoise. I wouldn't brag so loudly these days with all the far-left radical terrorists on the loose. They will gladly eat their own.

Maybe stop voting for governments that steal from you and give to the rich. Things like Biden's BBB bill that gave all your money to billionaires while lying in your face about how they are the party for the poor. Again, no poor person is crying over a billionaire's stock prices going down. The poor can use all the price relief possible.

We literally won WW2 by bombing the shit out of Dresden, which declared every person working a factory as a combatant.

Same with fire-bombing Tokyo and the nukes. The childish moral view of innocent Palestines only ensures no end to that war.

@Savant
But not so much the non combatants...
How can Israel know that people that shelter Hamas are helping to kill Israelis, or unwilling hostages? Self-defense doctrine has to assume the first especially if ample time was allowed for those Palestines to get away from the combat.

Additionally, the man that works in the factory making a bomb is as much a combatant as the person setting it off. If there is no price people pay to build and support an offensive military, then they will continue to do so. That was the reasoning behind the 911 attacks.
