The civil war was fought in a predictable place.
Ok, I am not even going to rehash where the battles historically took place geographically here because correcting you doesn't even come close to explaining why we also had elections during both world wars.
Imagine if people on the left and right both came together as they do for Ukraine, shrugged their shoulders, and said Rudy Giuliani was justified in suspending elections after 9/11.... How would that be an example of "democracy?"

- The US government uses the justification of national security and moral duty to bring "democracy and freedom" to other countries.

- The claim of fighting for democracy is often used to sell these wars, despite supporting despotic regimes like Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Egypt.
- Rudy Giuliani wanted to postpone elections after 9/11, but the idea was widely criticized by the American public as "undemocratic."
- U.S. Elections were held during WW1 and WW2 and the Civil War.
- Ukrainian President Zelensky has taken authoritarian actions, such as canceling elections, martial law, jailing opposition, and shutting down churches based on affiliation.
- Despite claims of defending democracy, the US government has often supported autocratic regimes.
- Joe Biden invoked the argument of democracy vs. autocracy to justify the war in Ukraine.
- The justifications for endless wars MUST BE questioned, considering the monumental costs and lack of democratic outcomes.
- It is our patriotic duty to question our authority institutions.

I am quick to ask a question, you are quick to dismiss. Censorship in your reply to me might be a projection of your acceptance of what is going on in Ukraine, but feel free to correct me.
The circumstances in these two scenarios are very different.
How exactly? Can Kiev not hold elections without collecting the votes of the Donbas people?
USA didn't collect the 1864 votes in any of the states declaring independence.
I can see the necessity of media censorship and martial law in a Civil War, but why suspend elections?

The period following the Euromaidan protests in Ukraine in 2013 and the subsequent conflict in eastern Ukraine was marked by significant changes to press freedom. There were numerous instances of violent attacks on the media in Ukraine, with approximately 300 cases recorded by the OSCE between November 2013 and May 2014. Violations of free speech also increased, with at least 995 recorded in 2014, double the number in 2013 and triple the number in 2012. Attacks on journalists were particularly prevalent during the Euromaidan period, with 82 incidents in January and 70 in February 2014. Additionally, there were cases of abduction and illegal detention of journalists, as well as restrictions on press freedom, such as police impeding access to public buildings, physical attacks on press rooms, cyberattacks, and even firebombing of a TV channel in July 2014.
The new 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election initially entertained diverse political orientations in the media, though some minor cases of pressure or censorship attempts were reported. Concerns were raised in 2015 regarding aggressive propaganda from Russian state-owned news outlets, which aimed to support the Russian annexation of Crimea, encourage separatism in Donbas, and discredit the Kyiv government. There were also accusations that the Ukrainian government cracked down on pro-separatist viewpoints, and Russia-based television stations were shut down and Russian journalists barred from entering the country.
To counteract perceived Russian information aggression, the Ministry of Information Policy was established in December 2014, with a focus on countering biased information about Ukraine. However, some of the measures taken, such as banning Russian internet service providers, social networks, and news sources, were criticized as politically expedient attacks on the right to information. The concentration of media ownership, along with the high risks of violence against journalists, especially in conflict areas in the east, remained concerns for media freedom in Ukraine.
There were improvements in press freedom, as noted by Freedom House, with the status changing from Not Free to Partly Free in 2015. The level of government hostility and legal pressure faced by journalists decreased, and there were improvements in access to information laws and the independence of the broadcasting regulator. However, challenges remained, including the handling of pro-Russian propaganda and the overall risks faced by journalists. Ukraine ranked 102nd out of 180 countries in the 2017 World Press Freedom Index, and bans on media imposed by the Poroshenko government were condemned by organizations like Reporters Without Borders, Human Rights Watch, and the Committee to Protect Journalists.
