In today's world 100% I would want to be identified as a black person without hesitation. I would try hard to resist the urge to abuse the privilege modern society bestows upon me due to my skin color.
America right now is in an openly admitted apartheid where 14% of the population dominate every discussion and are listened and valued above any other. For the 1st time in all of American History, 2 people, Kamala and Justice Jackson were openly selected due to the color of their skin.

So just to be clear, employers who, say, hate black people and therefore refuse to hire them, all of a sudden treat black candidates just as favorably as white candidates because the law says they have to. Is that correct?
It's a sticky point, the difference between de-jure equality and de-facto equality.
While there are examples you can show on your side, I can show as many if not more on the other side, especially in employment opportunities in entertainment and academic careers. I think the solution to promoting de-facto equality would be to eliminate the advantages on both sides.

Why is it a good thing to have career politicians? Shouldn't politicians put people before their careers?
Pelosi failed to deliver a massive amount of promises over a period of decades with no consequence. Is that what you hold as the gold standard for modern government? Pelosi? Seriously?
If AOC and the progressive squad got even half of the concessions from Pelosi that the HFC got out of McCarthy, you would have had medicare for all by now. Just think on that.
Instead, AOC's progressive squad was sold a bill of goods, empty promises, and token seats of power, with veiled threats as well.

Allow me to enlighten you. Slaves were neither represented, nor taxed. What the 3/5 compromise ensured was that privileged white slave owners would have power over northern white victims. Also ensuring the north paid more taxes with less representation per taxed person.

Much of slavery was justified through the use of very bad science, including phrenology (a thoroughly debunked theory)

You didn't specify where in America, and that's a huge oversight. Some northern states gave a lot of advantages to blacks that Appalachian whites could never hope to have.
Class transcends skin prejudices now as it was back then. I don't think any black person would want to live at the same level as a lower class white person when they could have a much higher standard of life in the north. In the end, standards of living are the foundations for all metrics of equality.

"Pushing this agenda" refers to what? Is the government telling everyone to get gender reassignment surgeries? Or the left?
I don't think it's a deliberate agenda, but only responding to the latest Munchausen fad where many of life's problems can be solved through gender reassignment.
When social groups promote specific therapies, the symptoms manifest themselves, which is why this happens.
Assimilation is a genetic feature of millions of years of herd instincts, so if it isn't gender identity, it will always be something else.

This is already done. It's a well documented fact that volunteers and private charity groups along with private entrepreneurs are the 1st ones on the ground restoring services way before FEMA actually does anything. it can take many months for anything FEMA does to take effect.

Many people on the left are obsessed with merit that is based solely on gender or race. If the bar to qualify is exclusively a gender, then meeting that bar by simple identification would be a significant advantage for ambitious people.
It can also be a precedent for identifying as a preferred race for the same reason of meeting that high bar of qualification.
Technically, this can already be done. I have been self-identifying as African-American for over 10 years to gain the advantages of expedited government welfare. Not one Federal agent has asked me for a DNA test.
