Like I said. North Korea. Everywhere outside of North Korea exists a healthy mistrust of people in power instead of cult-like religion to an institution.

It's a marginal benefit with a huge cost. What is the cost of a year of stupid kids many which are now permanently emotionally scarred due year of lockdown to protect them from a virus that killed ZERO KIDS?
Many teachers that were not at risk like myself were simply not allowed by an authoritarian government to teach in person for an entire year while we were forced to watch our children remotely degrade. Lockdowns were absolutely not worth the cost for them specifically. Now just think of the cost of other people that had little to no risk. A lockdown for at-risk people was the ONLY policy that could have possibly made sense, but even Cuomo, the jewel of the radical left, couldn't do that. The entire lockdown was the greatest tragedy of mankind in my lifetime, and that bill won't be paid in full for decades to come.

@Double_R
Lockdowns are completely useless when the people living in these places think being asked to put on a mask is an affront on their liberty. Public policy can’t make people care about their health and safety.
Well yes, that's the point. You have to live in North Korea for a lockdown policy to make any sort of sense logistically.

I always find it interesting that we as citizens elect political and administrative representatives....And then spend the next 4 or 5 years assuming a great conspiracy and vilifying our elected representatives.
It's almost like all people have self-serving interests. Imagine that.
The real conspiracy is the idea that government doesn't care about holding on to power by any means necessary.
I'm sure there's a bunch of people that buy into that one.

You're as reliant on a nanny state as the next person is.
For the stupid people to get distracted while I personally exploit them? Sure. OK.
Rules are for suckers. PT Barnum knows.

I guessing though, that when push actually comes to shove, you're as reliant on the nanny state and nanny media, as the next person is.
I guess we will always have stupid people relying on the government to make personal risk assessments. I am ok with that.

I remember reading Freidman and he came up with a remarkable statement.
All government spending is inevitably a tax on the entire population. It does not matter what system you have in place to tax, eventually, the entire population pays for ALL government spending, one way or the other.
1) in the case of progressive taxes, either the costs get passed onto the poor through increased prices, or standards of living for the poor drop as consumer items become unavailable due to investors and producers leaving.
2) In the case of borrowing, the costs get passed along when the loan is due.
3) In the case of inflation due to printing money to cover debts, every person pays as money becomes worth less and less.
It doesn't matter what scheme you can devise, everyone pays for EVERY penny spent by the government.

You should really go back and read post #12.
Your comments, while making you appear to be a loyal radical leftist, also demonstrates your ignorance about what science is.

Consensus isn't science. That's a popularity contest.

i'm responding to public health science.
You absolutely are not. You are responding to political scientists. You have not cited a single scientist besides Fauci in this entire thread. Yet you can't seem to get enough virtue signalling by pointing an intolerant finger at every single person that thinks differently than you.
Typical radical leftist.

That's because you have zero tolerance for anyone different from yourself. Typical radical leftist.

That's okay, I will report to your stupid concentration kamp Fuher.
Like this authoritarian bullshit Kamp for "stupid" people.
Maybe in the UK where there is no constitution to protect against Habeas Corpus violations, it's acceptable to do this, but not in America.

tried to prevent stupid people from being stupid
Ok, Hitler.
did you get the chambers ready to forcibly "manage" stupid people?
which actually achieved nothing positive in terms of public health
That's the point. Nothing they did mattered, but not promoting policy based on junk science and corporate media hype kept Sweden from having an entire year of stupid kids by forcing them to stay home and ignorant.
Kids which I am sure you have a plan ready to "handle" with the authoritarian bullshit you peddle to "stupid people"
Just been talking to a guy who still after 8 months, has nowhere near fully recovered from the effects of Covid and he is neither old nor fat
You have weird outlier friends, mate.

Socrates believed that living a life where you live under the rules of others, in a continuous routine without examining what you actually want out of it is not worth living.
This illustration of a sheepish lifestyle is what Socrates would describe an unexamined life. Hence Socrates’ renowned statement “The unexamined life is not worth living”. Declaring that humans must scrutinize their lives in order to live a fulfilled one isn’t agreeable to any extent to most sheep.
Socrates claimed that having a mechanical life with an unthinking routine, under the rules of others without ever examining whether or not they truly want to live with those routines or rules is basically not worth living anymore. Happiness then becomes a tiresome exercise in delusion rather than lasting satisfaction from balance and contentment.

Nope. I am not catered to... contrary to your claim.
It wasn't a claim. If you have personally chosen to read a book instead of trusting people in power, then you already know whether or not you are a sheep.
The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them. —Mark Twain
The unexamined life is not worth living. -Socrates

If this is a crisis I wonder what you guys would call the situations that lead to Trump’s two impeachment trials and his horrendous handling of COVID...
Depends whether or not you are a mindless sheep supporting a well-established political party that caters to the rich, and whether you are a mindless sheep relying on a billionaire media owner to tell you what to worry about, and provide the only science you are allowed to look at.
Most of those sheeple do not read books, by lifestyle choice.
They are not deplorable, just sad empty shells.

Now that the science has 3 important findings for government policy.
1) Lockdowns had little to no effect on the outcomes of the Covid spread.
2) Schools should have never been shut down, and we should have followed Sweden's approach with fully open schools and relaxed, voluntary masking with no mandates.
3) Old and fat people are the main ones that actually need the vaccine.
Do you feel gullible for believing corporate media? Why don't you think billionaires in charge of your news information care about you anymore?

U.S.—A new study has found that Biden has successfully handled the border crisis by reducing the amount of media coverage of the border crisis by 867%.
"Biden has expertly handled this crisis, reducing the number of media reports of the problem significantly," said Jen Psaki in a press conference today. "Under the previous administration, there were thousands of news stories a day on the poor conditions of the migrants at the border. Under Biden, that number is way, way lower."
Estimates suggest that whereas there was a steady stream of reports about bad conditions, inept government action, and inhumane handling of migrants who had crossed the border, Biden has "built a wall" around the information coming from the border, so that the influx of news stories has all but stopped.
"As Biden continues to expertly handle the crisis of media coverage, we expect the number of news stories to be reduced down to Obama administration levels in no time," Psaki said proudly.
"But what about the kids in cage--" one Newsmax reporter began, only for Psaki to pull a handle and send him plummeting through a trap door.

This is a lie. I know someone intimately who had been vaccinated for the measles and acquired pneumonia, which nearly killed him.
There used to be a time when we could trust each other to make our own personal risk assessments. Today, it's just an exercise in obedience.

You should really do some research into why people give up on life when they have no purpose.
It's a genetic vestigial trait of a fit species that survived a millennia of strife. Genes are not changing anywhere near as fast as technology.
We have essentially the same genes as a caveman with the same genetic impulses and instincts.

Question; is this the biggest or at least one of the biggest reasons why you vote republican?
Most of the Democrat party are heavily purchased by the rich, especially in high GDP states like New York and California where most of the ultra-rich live.
AOC s a rare exception to the rule.
But one exception isn't going to make a difference. We already saw the past 4 years that one man can't take on the entire establishment without consequences.
Even his own party in Congress turned on him for not playing ball with the elite lobbies.

I voted for Obama and didn't vote last Election.
I’m also curious to know your general thoughts on AOC.
I used to think she was a useful idiot, but I am hoping somehow she can get enough support to change the status quo. I was really disappointed when her war on Pelosi ended before it really even started, but that is Washington DC for you. It eats you alive.

Please explain who is supposed to compete with the US government.
Right now, the general public competes with lobbies. Guess who wins most of the time?
Guess who wins when alternatives to established government services are suggested? (even within the government)
I strongly recommend you take 5 minutes out of your free time to watch this.
