i never claimed trump is predictable. He is a narcissistic child with the nuclear codes. What he is though, is predictably greedy and corrupt. If you can convince him something will benefit him personally, he will go for it. Whether it is smart, good for the country, or even legal, is completely irrelevant to trump. Since the corrupt politicians and billionaires want to make the rich richer, that is a really easy sell.

There is little evidence to suggest as government has grown more powerful in scope since FDR that the rich have become less crony with the government.
In fact, they have become MUCH more crony with the government.
Asking for even more government power is a sure-fire recipe to invite even more levels of cronyism from the rich and more exploitation.

Power isn't a theoretical zero-sum game. There are various levels between total authoritarianism and anarchy. It isn't all or nothing.
Pretending you can't have a balance by limiting both the powers of an authoritative government and the crony rich isn't rational.
The answer is to tie both hands and limit the power and corruption that goes along with that power and give the power back to the people, and only a sycophant would argue anything else.

That's a fake argument. The government can make regulations that help while also making ones that do not solely for the purpose of destroying competition to ensure big businesses contribute to their warchests.
The most idiotic of them is requiring a license to sell lemonade, destroying charter schools with regulations to appease the teacher monopoly, or destroying Uber with regulations to appease the cab driver monopoly.
There is no reason why the people cannot reclaim the powers they gave to the government Post FDR, as the government has shown it cannot be trusted with that power.

But if the factories are all in one region, then they are only poisoning a small group. The rest of the market doesn't give a shit because they aren't affected. You are fine with the air quality while there are strict laws controlling pollution. If you weakened the power of the government, this would dramatically decrease causing a huge upsurge in preventable health problems (which they would, of course, gouge you to treat).
Pre- FDR tort law wouldn't allow such a scenario. This isn't even close to reality.
