That's a silly question to examine on a yes/no basis because you will always find echoes of the past in everything in human history. The real question is how relevant or significant that echo is.

Detroit has been in a free territory and later was in a free state with no legal slavery. How could you possibly imagine legalized slavery in other areas of the country caused Detroit to become the shithole it is today compared to other far more significant local factors?

Like Dreadpirate said already, there are less than 3000 remaining white supremacists left in the country. It's statistically far more likely that you will meet a colored multi-millionaire than a white supremacist in your lifetime. What is the real significance of this?

I'm just trying to get a straight yes/no answer to you as to whether or not the side-effects of legally enforced slavery and discrimination are likely to go away over night. You seem to be taking great pains to avoid a simple answer.
As far as I know, Detroit has never had legalized slavery. What's your excuse now?

Probably a lot to do with that part where I assumed a person had 2 parents.

Policy aimed at promoting economic opportunity for poor children must be framed within three stark realities. First, many poor children come from families that do not give them the kind of support that middle-class children get from their families. Second, as a result, these children enter kindergarten far behind their more advantaged peers and, on average, never catch up and even fall further behind. Third, in addition to the education deficit, poor children are more likely to make bad decisions that lead them to drop out of school, become teen parents, join gangs, and break the law.

In addition to the thousands of local and national programs that aim to help young people avoid these life-altering problems, we should figure out more ways to convince young people that their decisions will greatly influence whether they avoid poverty and enter the middle class. Let politicians, schoolteachers, and administrators, community leaders, ministers, and parents drill into children the message that in a free society, they enter adulthood with three major responsibilities: at least finish high school, get a full-time job and wait until age 21 to get married and have children.
Our research shows that of American adults who followed these three simple rules, only about 2 percent are in poverty and nearly 75 percent have joined the middle class (defined as earning around $55,000 or more per year). There are surely influences other than these principles at play, but following them guides a young adult away from poverty and toward the middle class.

Consider an example. Today, more than 40 percent of American children, including more than 70 percent of black children and 50 percent of Hispanic children, are born outside marriage. This unprecedented rate of nonmarital births, combined with the nation’s high divorce rate, means that around half of children will spend part of their childhood—and for a considerable number of these all of their childhood — in a single-parent family. As hard as single parents try to give their children a healthy home environment, children in female-headed families are four or more times as likely as children from married-couple families to live in poverty. In turn, poverty is associated with a wide range of negative outcomes in children, including school dropout and out-of-wedlock births.

to compensate for the socioeconomic disadvantages of being born black...
There's no better place on the planet to be born colored than in the USA today, assuming you have 2 parents.

American wealth and opportunity is insane comparatively.

It is. The founding fathers never expected the Congress to completely discount and dismiss the other 2 branches of government as this Congress has.

An impeachment without any semblance of respect for the courts or the law or for the presumption of innocence. A Congress that believes obstructing the will of the Congress in a 3 system government consisting of checks and balances is an impeachable offense.

Unprecedented tyranny of Congress.

Nobody is seriously thinking Congress is hauling Trump's cabinet in front of these fools to get "evidence"

It's all a shit show so every Congressperson can get their 5 minutes of TV fame bashing a person for daring to work for "ebil" Trump.

To even partially refuse to admit this shows how fucked up the toxic left has become.

In fact, the very idea that a person could be thrown in jail for "obstructing Congress" proves how much Congress has abused their authority.

The Congress should never be above the law, above the courts, or above the SCOTUS.

Even the FBI can't demand these things without a writ from the courts, and even the FBI has abused that authority through the FISA court improprieties and ommissions as well.

There's definitely abuses of power, but it sure as hell aint Trump.

The victims are the American people, not the people in the government. He is preventing witnesses from testifying about his crimes.

Then the Congress can call millions of witnesses to testify how Trump criminally violated them. Horseshit.

Oh really, Trump is just keeping his "victims" in his administration from testifying about crimes perpetrated against them. What a load of horse shit.

Even if we were to take on face value the fucking retarded charge of Zelensky being a "battered housewife..."

In reality, if there is no victim of abuse and the housewife does refuses to press charges, then there can be no prosecution.

A black female judge imo would be more likely to hand a lighter sentence to a black female defendant than an equal crime etc of a white male defendant.
This is actually statistically not true. In fact, it's well documented as being the opposite case for different reasons.

White judges are commonly indoctrinated as looking down on brown-skinned people as being a lesser person in need of assistance.
The illegal alien that was rushed out of the courthouse before ICE could detain him was done by a white judge.

Most Colored Judges have no such pretensions at all, as many come from areas where they personally experienced the higher crime rates from brown-skinned people. In many cases, Brown-skinned judges hand down significantly harsher sentences.

That article is a bit misleading. The supreme court agreed to hear cases about whether congress can subpoena his financial records in entirely unrelated investigations into him. It has nothing to do with trumps attempts to block the impeachment inquiry with him.

Even if the high court were eventually to rule against the claims by President Trump, the fact that the justices decided to hear them, in effect, supports his constitutional contention that he had the right to challenge congressional subpoenas in court, or to demand that those issuing the subpoenas seek to enforce them through court.

he ordered witnesses not to testify and hid information in an impeachment inquiry. That is obstruction.

It's separation of powers. If Congress wants to destroy a sitting president, they can collect facts outside of his administration.

Police assumed that black people were more likely to commit a crime and therefore would stop them for little to no reason at all. Being black and in public was enough grounds for them to determine they were "suspicious".

Nah, you assumed that we could simply ignore higher rates of criminality from brown-skinned cultures and "more logically" assume all police are racist.

lol you're kidding right? The policy was a massive failure. The violent crime rate in new york went down, but at pretty much the same rate as other cities did at the same time. And they weren't doing stop and frisk.
You don't even comprehend what you read. more guns were confiscated under stop and frisk than any other gun regulation in the history of the USA.

All people should be treated the way those cops treated white people.
Stop and frisk controversy was a classic example of ignoring rates of criminality based on skin color.

The suspicious people were far more likely to happen to have brown skin because they simply committed crimes at a higher rate. Period.

Skin color was used as a tool by defense lawyers to defend criminals from stop and frisk, not to protect the general public from "racist" police, or to protect the public from criminals. Stop and frisk was the most effective gun elimination program in the history of the country, so NRA probably didn't shed too many tears when the policy was destroyed by their own.

The whole Ukraine thing with his son seems like some sort of corruption. His son worked some place that he knew nothing about and got big payments monthly. Seems like there are some big conflicts of interest there. He proceeded to keep money from them until they fired the man investigating the company that his son worked at.
The underlying reason for paying off Hunter Biden is probably illegal, but it's an impeachable offense to ask about that reason.

And who is going to regulate government that can't provide the infrastructure people need to travel from point A to point B?

California cities are among the most polluted because of the stop and go traffic, not because their cars are somehow dirtier than the rest of the world's cars. The average car in California burns more than twice as much fuel in stop and go traffic to go the same distances as anywhere else.

Who is going to fix that? Probably not the same people in charge for the last 50 years.

.. block California from having better standards..

California, not surprisingly, has chosen the route of stunning, stifling and ever-increasing levels of regulation. California’s environmental regulatory ways started in 1959.  Back then, California enacted legislation requiring the state Department of Public Health to establish air quality standards and controls for motor vehicle emissions. The first statewide air quality standards were set by the Department of Public Health and became the ‘model’ for Federal legislation in 1960.

From that modest start, perhaps the peak of the California regulatory fever is its very own Global Warming Solutions Act passed in 2006 and made more stringent in 2016. Under that Act, no less than 18 agencies promulgate and enforce regulations aimed at reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Their stated goal is to reduce pollution world-wide. Most recently, their efforts have taken the form of imposing regulations to reduce the methane ‘emissions’ of dairy cows.

With that, perhaps it is time to ask (a) whether overregulation is reducing pollution for California and the Globe or (b) whether regulating cows represents an irrational tipping point – even for California.
In plain truth, in what economists call the laws of unintended consequences, overregulation is actually adding to worldwide pollution. The reason why is called “leakage.”

It is a well-known fact that regulations and taxes have driven manufacturing and even agriculture out of California.  Manufacturers and the like have decided they cannot or will not deal with the regulatory and tax burden of places like California and have taken their factories and jobs and farms to places with less restrictions.

Those places include states like Arkansas and countries like India and China. Lord knows the latter two allow for far more pollution than anywhere in the United States.  That delta in pollution – between what would have happened in California and what is happening in the alternative locale is called “leakage.”

This is not a small or academic discussion.  In the last 25 years, California has lost over a million manufacturing jobs (over 500,000 to Asia by some estimates). As a partial result of that leakage from California and the United States in general, in the short term, global pollution is higher than it would have been if those jobs would have stayed in California and the United States under a more reasonable regulatory and tax system.

A secondary unintended economic consequence of overregulation is that it also adds to pollution in the long run.  If those factories and jobs were still in California, the market-driven clean manufacturing industry would be far more advanced in America today than it actually is.  The demand, and therefore the market, for such technology, however, is lower globally because companies in China and India aren’t in the market for such technology anywhere near as much as a vibrant California would have been.

Plainly stated, it would have been better to have more limited regulations (and lower taxes) and therefore more jobs in California because it would have spurred clean technology industries. In turn, the U.S. could have been the Global leader in that technology and sold it to the world – thereby reducing pollution worldwide in future years.  That has been, and will be, a missed opportunity if we stay on the current path.

After decades of government action that have produced the opposite of the desired result, it’s time to leave our poor milk cows alone and take a harder look at the sacred-cows of government regulation.

China is projected to go way over 15,000 MtCO2 in the next 10 years..the slope of the rate of change is close to 1.

USA which at one time had a peak of 7400 is projected to flatline somewhere below 6500 MtCO2 in the next ten years...the slope of the line is a slightly negative trend.

The idea that america is somehow protecting the free world by spending INSANE amounts of money on it's military is a lie.

Unless it is the Ukraine.

America could cut military spending by half and still be the #1 spender by a wide margin.

You don't need to spend 100's of billions per year in order to protect your country. The US needs to do that because the military industrial complex wants to get paid and politicians are corrupt.

Do you not see the hypocrisy in that? If you actually thought attacking them was wrong you wouldn't be ok with the personal attacks on Greta.

Maybe Greta is just a target for outrage from people in America doing the proper thing by lowering emissions while China gets a pass to achieve a projected TRIPLE the USA emission rate in the next 20 years.
