Will using tariffs against China give us leverage in negotiations?

@bmdrocks21
The EPA says the Federal Tort Claims Act prevents the agency from paying claims the result from "discretionary” government actions.
This is why we have tort lawyers, to prevent groups from fucking the public, but the government is immune.

@HistoryBuff
No we don't lol. Like I said there's zero reason to have partisan politicians locking crony arms with these huge corporations when there exists in America one tort lawyer per 100 citizens. There is no chance for the government to compete with that amount of people to regulate bad behavior. In almost every actual USEFUL government regulation, it's ONLY after some tort lawyer has already fleeced and bankrupted some company into the ground, because there's no other possible way for the government to know what the hell is actually going on. The government just doesn't have the manpower, the expertise, or the incentive to be good at it.

Why would you want to apologize for crony partnership with the government?

But they don't ever do it for the public good. They do it for their own profit margin.
You can't have a profit if the public isn't happy with your goods.

Not as long as competition is allowed to exist.

This is why companies are so eager to lock arms with the government and pay politicians through the nose to have the government use their power to forcibly destroy their competition.

Banana Republic vs Whistleblower In White House
Once the investigation is finished detailing trump's crimes,
This won't happen any time soon.

Most likely it will end when the house flips in 2020.

The biggest roadblock to an actual impeachment vote is not Trump. It is Pelosi.

There is a valid reason why the squad wants her removed.

@HistoryBuff
 For example, you remove the rules saying you can't dump industrial waste in the ocean. Big companies will save a fortune not having to actually safely dispose of their waste. But now everyone that uses the ocean is going to suffer. You save some money for a big corporation in one place, but you hurt everyone else and cost the economy a fortune somewhere else.
I don't know why, but this seems like a really popular example amongst crony government apologists.

What do you think would actually happen to me if I, as a small businessman, walked out to the shore and dumped a barrel of waste into the ocean with a camera crew filming me do it. And there were no Federal regulations saying I could not do it. What do you think the real-world consequences of that would be?

Pelosi is never going to reach the shores of the land of an impeachment vote.

Pelosi's Congress has been doing investigations into impeachment without formally declaring it as such for 3 years due to the bad optics. The rabid left have forced her to directly admit what her party has been obviously doing for the last 3 years but make no mistake. There is zero chance Pelosi will bring the vote to the floor. She has said numerous times that it will never happen while she is in power. If you are at all serious about impeachment, you need to look for ways to get around Pelosi.

Reread what I posted. There is a huge difference between inquiries and proceedings. Go pull up some clips of disgruntled leftists who are pissed at Pelosi for not starting proceedings.

I guarantee you that if any member of the squad were speaker of the house, there would have been an impeachment vote yesterday.

The partisan government shouldn't be in the business of dictating how banks or any other investment group should be run. We have tort lawyers and independent SEC rules to manage that. It's too much of a temptation for corruption as we saw with Barney Frank attempting to purchase the votes of minorities with risky loans.

If you have done any research into Dodd-Frank it was a collaborative program between the large investment firms and government to squeeze out the competition, as most crony regulations often do that have the support of large monopolies paired with the government. You can be sure there was plenty of quid-pro-quo for that.

Every politician with the exception of Trump seemingly "scores big" in the stock market to the tune of millions of dollars in exchange for their support in crushing smaller competition with cute sounding funny misnamed regulations.

The only way to get big money out of D.C. is to keep the politicians from partnering up with them and passing crony regulations that hurt the middle class and the poor.

SEC rules and tort lawyers are more than sufficient for oversight. We don't need a pathway to corruption by tearing down the separation between government and private business. Private business can only exert force over the competition and the poor through the government. Why would you want to empower cronyism? It's time to snip the balls off the 1 percent by cutting ties with the strong arm of the government.

If anything, removing the guard rails preventing companies from doing stupid, stupid things only increases the risk of a recession. It wasn't government regulation that caused the crash in 2008. It was the market doing stupid, stupid things in order to earn a quick buck. They ended up crashing the economy and needed the government to bail them out.

If you want to call the government bailing out the banks and encouraging the banks through incentives to provide loans to people who could never pay them back a guard rail....

But we will also all be better off after Trump is impeached.

Well, you better start electing out the status quo in the Democrat party starting with Pelosi and Nadler as they have not yet and have signaled that they won't ever start impeachment proceedings. Most of the progressive wing are furious at them for not taking action.

I agree, and this was debated by many non-partisan economists, but the retooling of the economy doesn't correlate to a recession when consumer confidence has been so high. In actuality, we have never seen such a mixture of conditions like this, so you have to take the dire predictions with a serious grain of salt, while objectively observing how the relaxation of the government's war on success affects the on the economy.

Trump has had months now to try to frame Joe Biden and appears to have come up with little more than an insinuation of wrong doing.

Sadly, in the era of guilty before proven innocent, simply having your name in the news is enough. Biden is toast.

All the economists have been wrong about the growth of the country in an era of relaxed government attacks on entrepreneurship. I would put about much stock in that prediction as the world ending in 12 years. The people who dropped out of the stock market in 2016 in protest of Trump have lost amazing amounts of wealth.

Correction, all the contracted economists being paid by the MSM.

There is no reason to think this was for any other reason than to extort Ukraine.
The fact is this is not a slam-dunk for either side. The only real loser in all of this is Hunter Biden, and by extension, Joe due solely of having this driven in the media.

This is going to really hamper Joe's attempts to control the media narrative during a critical time of primary posturing, all but ensuring a Warren primary victory.

Ukraine isn't a member of NATO.
This is why I deliberately used the words "in support of NATO", as it's clearly in NATO's interest to keep Ukraine as a buffer against Russian aggression.

NATO should clearly be contributing far more than they currently are considering Russia is far more of an immediate threat to them than the USA.

There's absolutely nothing illegal NOR improper to coerce NATO to get other countries to contribute more.

“My complaint has always been, and I’d withhold again, and I’ll continue to withhold until such time as Europe and other nations contribute to Ukraine, because they’re not doing it,” Trump told reporters, ahead of his speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

This isn't a new position from Trump saying USA shouldn't be the ONLY or the MAIN nation providing aid in support of NATO.

Trump has been pressuring NATO members to pay the bill since 2016.

Once the US enters a recession in the next year or so and farmers start going bankrupt, it will be politically untenable for the trade war to continue.
This is really wishful thinking of the worst kind. All the economists have been wrong about the growth of the country in an era of relaxed government attacks on entrepreneurship. Oh no, I am certainly not saying it will permanently damage China, I am just saying when the supply chain markets relocate, as they often do in a global economy, China will have a very hard struggle getting them back. Currency manipulation won't cut it.

@HistoryBuff
But China can keep this up a lot longer than the US can.
Under a non-global market, I would agree.

But markets and supply chains are already starting the permanent shift to other competitive pacific rim nations, and China won't be able to have a competitive advantage to get those markets back the longer negotiations drag out.

I'd say China has about 3 years before they start to permanently start losing a good chunk of the market share of key electronic components. That's about the point where manipulating Chinese currency won't allow China to effectively maintain its market share and competitive advantage. The USA is a huge source of their income.

Once the markets shift, the damage will already have been done and dropping the tariffs won't help China at that point, and China knows it. Those markets shift to appease the strongest consumer...and the other nations will also follow suit when they can get the same products for a similar price without dealing with China's bullshit trade policies.

Nevermind. From what I gathered Shokin was pretty shady himself. While not dropping the investigation into Burisma, Shokin was certainly granting questionable favors and immunity for some people involved. Was hunter one of those protected from investigation or not? I don't think we can say conclusively from the info out there right now.

Because of that, it's probably going to be really hard to draw a conclusive quid-pro-quo where Biden traded aid to protect his son, even though the entire deal looks really bad.

"Society" is an aggregate/circuit of individuals. And because they're individuals, they at times can share similar subjective values, or sustain conflicting values. Property is a mechanism which best resolves disputes over the services of a good or resource by creating a standard premised on an objective self-interest (e.g. exclusive control over one's homestead, labor, skills, etc.) Property extends, for lack of better terms, an innate sense of possession to that which is serviceable to their own self-interests, including the option to appropriate it to themselves exclusively. As long as this mechanism is respected by each individual, it will produce the optimal means to resolve any dispute among them which may arise.
Which is why homeless people have no problem leaving feces on public property.

It is not "their land"

it is "our land"

The fact that the greedy money chasers leave to America is a good thing for the societies in those nations.
The problem with this sentiment is it also leads to brain drain as hyper-productive people leave to find a place where they feel wanted and needed.

Regressive societies like America ensure people are rewarded for producing the things society needs for a high standard of living. Progressive Nations that punish productive people and reward unproductive people usually fall into an inflation trap as the GDP shrinks.

@billbatard
then explain why life is best in nordic nations even corporate sources conceded they are the bat freest places to live.
More people are leaving those places to come to America than Americans are leaving to live there.

It's so funny to hear all the people promising to move to Canada but then "suddenly" realize America is a much better place to live.

If America was such a shithole, people would be climbing over the fences to fill up Nordic detention facilities.

Of course, Norway has a zero-tolerance policy for illegal immigration meaning there are no sanctuary cities. There are very few illegal immigrants willing to remain in such a harsh environment. Norway also has a strict cultural integration policy along with merit-based immigration, which means you can forget about bringing your American values to Norway unless don't mind being shunned by the community.

Norway at least has nothing to worry about.

Good one. I guess he would say bad authoritative policies is what he opposes which he has to state what is. I am sure he is not against taxes, military, regulations etc.

Against the overuses of all 3 of those things. Some people want US government to mirror EU nations that tax the poor at 40% and be at war with every nation including Russia. Some people want so much regulation a poor person has no chance to compete with the monopolies that control DC.
