Correct, doom-sayers have been plaguing humankind since the discovery of the 1st wolf to cry over.

Hi stalker.

You can have a consensus of charlatans and shills for green energy.

What do you think about the hundreds of millions that take the end of the-world-prophecies of the Koran as fact?
You don't think that is a consensus of doom proselytizers?

So America first. Army should be used to defend our borders, not police the planet. Military-industrial complex is out of control.

Whenever powerful people claim to love your kids more than you do and say they are doing it "for the kids" then you know for sure they are doing it for themselves.

"For the kids" has become the classic trope of the abuse of power under the guise of "the greater good"
classic appeal to emotion over logic

They published misleading information BECAUSE they were influenced by corporations

Green energy is a huge industry waiting to be subsidized by frightened, clueless people.

Second, climate change.  "the greater good" argues that although some people have significant negative economic impacts as the result of environmental policies, the cost of doing nothing is catastrophic to all humans, so even if you or someone you love has been harmed by environmental policies, your suffering is of little concern to "society at large" because statistically, way more people will suffer under the status quo.
Everything about this statement is false. The predictions of "catastrophe" if we do nothing to slow climate change are, historically, far, far less accurate than the predictions of what will happen to humanity if we spend the trillions proposed to do "something"

Historically speaking, end-of-the-world charlatans have plagued humanity since the first wolf was discovered to cry over. Obviously out of the thousands of historical examples of "the end of the world" we are still here alive, and thriving, sadly to the detriment of all other species. On the second matter, historically we have always seen that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and the very idea that it is ONLY government that can "save the world" is backed by significant historical data of governments turning into tyrannies. If having tyrannical authoritative governments is a "greater-good" perhaps we should give up on this silly notion of free agency and personal responsibility.

The real question we should be asking is what would it take to become like Sweden and get the government out of the business of education and in the business of funding charter schools where poor people can choose the best privately run school available?

@Athias
Sweden is currently a capitalist nation with protections for the wealthy.

It is fair to say that Sweden was socialist, at least in terms of temperament and the direction of public policy. In 1975, Sweden’s state-owned well over half of the productive resources in the country, and directed prices in much of the rest. It subsidized debt, in part paradoxically by having enormously high tax rates with generous deductions for borrowers. Its attempts at “Keynesian” policy interventions were clumsy, were mistimed, and created disastrous uncertainty in investment returns even in the portions of the economy that were still market-oriented.

The state taxed successful industries heavily, and used the proceeds to subsidize industries that were inefficient, corrupt, and failing. This meant that interest rates on capital were prohibitive, especially when you tack on double-digit inflation.

To protect workers, the state required that wages could not be cut, and also enforced a panoply of restrictions on firing, layoffs, and other means of adjusting hours. Swedish products shot up in price, and the government was forced into a series of devaluations of the krona that made purchases of imported products beyond the reach of much of the middle class.

The electorate took a dim view of all of this. The tax system was a Rube Goldberg mechanism, with a level of complexity and arbitrary favoritism that encouraged distortion of investment into whatever happened to be taxed less, rather than whatever might produce useful products. Gunnar Myrdal, hardly a conservative, famously asked in 1978 whether Swedes “had turned into a people of swindlers.”

Fortunately for its citizens, but unfortunately for those who think Sweden is still socialist, the Swedish government, more or less by universal consensus, turned sharply back toward capitalism beginning in about 1995. It deregulated the domestic industry, privatized its education and pension systems, and opened the economy to international trade and competition.

The reason it did this is precisely because capitalism, wherever it is practiced seriously in a system with rule of law and protection for property rights, always creates prosperity.

It's hard to implement social democracy in a republic because a republic has checks and balances against mob rule...so it's a lot harder to implement 2 poor people robbing 1 rich dude mob rule democracy.

Who cares?

You could have 1000 times the amount of methane in the air and it still wouldn't be nearly as catastrophic for humans as this.

And humans pulled through just fine with just stone tools and fur clothing.

You listen way too much to end-of-the-world con artists.

I really can't stress how much of a bad play it was from you to decide to pull the "STFU scum" card at that point was. I even told you so right after you made that decision.

Given that I think you are scum and you are only asking this in order to help formulate a strategy with your scum buddy (it is exactly the kind of question I would ask in your place as scum for just that reason) I will not be answering this question.
You want feedback on how to improve. Don't refuse to answer questions when it's so close to the end and all info is critical. I needed someone to bounce ideas off of and you were the only other town besides CC I could talk to.

Maybe you don't need the back and forth to get ideas rolling but other people do. So shutting down the conversation as town should never be on the table unless you have a damn good reason. Which you didn't.

I had zero help with finding the 2nd scum from you. If you had said you thought it was club then we could have gone on about his noobiness, and then waited to hear from club. I wasn't pushing to end the day but you didn't want to discuss anymore about the 2nd scum. You have to allow for the possibility that others play better when you talk and banter, not when you shut up.

Even if you thought I was scum...for whatever reason...what possible help would town get for pulling the "stfu scum" card at that point? I'm genuinely curious why you think that was a help to town to shut down discussions.

If warren was town mafia team would have already lynched him for a quick game over.
