I don't deny that minimum wage laws have an unemployment effect (although you're exaggerating its magnitude). I just think it's worth the cost to preserve a minimum standard of living for American workers. I'm okay with waiving it for minors because most minors aren't financially supporting themselves, so it doesn't really matter how much they earn.
Except when you impose a minimum standard for workers...it goes both ways.....
Why would you impose a standard saying you must have equivalent of a high school diploma worth of job skills to work in the United States?
Why would you insist the minimum standard for a worker in the USA is to produce 15 dollars worth of productivity?
Maybe some workers would choose to be less productive...some workers don't have the skills to be that productive.

That's a very interesting idea. I wouldn't support eliminating the minimum wage, but waiving it for minors could be a great way to fill shortages of unskilled labor without immigration.
If it's a good idea to waive it, then it's a good idea to eliminate it. That's a general rule for any legislation including taxes if you want to promote equality under the law.
Besides... why waive it only for teens when there are young felons (and society!) that would benefit greatly from the elimination of the minimum wage. Unskilled labor can include any age group, so just drop the damn minimum wage so they can get a job and produce something for society, even if it's producing something trivial.

We actually wouldn't need any immigration reform for many low paying jobs if we eliminated wage price controls (minimum wage) so that our American teenagers can do the work the illegal immigrants are doing.
H-1B is important to keep in place though if we want to continue to exploit other countries by draining the best and the brightest from the shithole countries.
A lack of illegal labor only raises wages for Americans as employers have to fight with each other to get the few workers.

Yeah...seems like there will be more mob violence in the future as the government continues to fail with both parties. It's clear that the Democrats in power in the government wanted the statue removed, but the government in general has become so overburdened with excessive responsibilities that today it's unable to do something so simple as remove a statue, even when the government was 100% willing to do it....yet the public wants the government to have more responsibilities and power? This particular statue was commemorated by a blatant racist ....
One hundred yards from where we stand, less than ninety days perhaps after my return from Appomattox, I horse whipped a negro wench until her skirts hung in shreds because she had maligned and insulted a Southern lady, and then rushed for protection to these University buildings where was stationed a garrison of 100 Federal soldiers. I performed the pleasing duty in the immediate presence of the entire garrison.
So the outrage is justified at why this statue was allowed to remain. The only troubling thing is that the removal was done by a public mob instead of relying on the government to do the right thing. The government, run mostly by Democrats, had so much red tape that it was unable to actually execute the will of the people. That bodes really poorly for confidence in the government to actually have the authority to take care of the public, forget about the will or the competence of the government to do it.
Another troubling thing about the removal is that the mob encouraged racist attacks on any white person who happened to stroll by the event. We don't need a revival of skin based racism in this country after it took decades to reduce the KKK to a handful of basement dwellers unwelcome at any venue. Mob justice rarely ends well.

These young adults, especially minority adults, have had to deal all their life with the unintended consequences from bad government programs created by well-meaning politicians that wanted to make a difference.... young adults who would have been much better off had these politicians simply done nothing. Thought before action is advice RARELY given.Critical thinking is lost on the younger generations.

Again, it's not even close to an analogy.That is like saying that "be careful with money" is bad advice because it does not say exactly HOW to be careful.The fact that advice is too general to be of much practical use does not necessarily make it bad.
A better analogy is someone saying "spend your money carefully" which is a call to action without any advice on how to exactly do that. Advice that would be much better would NOT be a call to action, rather a call to thought. Advice on how saving your money can allow you to spend more later is better advice than a call to action to either spend carefully or to save carefully. You are completely missing the point about blind calls to action. If you haven't understood the point by now I am unlikely to convince you.

You are taking a single phrase out of context and applying a literal interpretation to it. When commencement speakers say "make a difference" they mean a positive difference, or "improve things," which I suspect is clear when you look at the most commencement addresses in their entirety.
That's actually not even close to the actual case. Most speakers preach about following your dreams and feelings. A scant minority will actually address rational decision making and the actual purpose of all education, which isn't to teach you tables of data to memorize, or even a specific trade skill; but to actually teach you to think and process data for the rest of your life outside of academia. Leaving out this crucial context, the listener is only left with the blanket mandate: "mutationem faciunt"

It's kind of funny because at the time, I didn't even bother to do any research on the news story when it broke because my first reaction was "Thank god Trump is not afraid to draw a distinctive line between countries with screwed up, dysfunctional governments and the United States."It's even worse than that. There is no audio or video of Trump saying so, some witnesses there saying they did not hear Trump say so, is a hearsay account brought a full day later by a never Trumper, and which Trump himself denies saying!So a no corroboration, hearsay story denied by the supposed speaker has morphed into All "African countries"Fake news indeed.
I really didn't know much about the actual policy change because the media talked more about racism than the actual TPS policy change Trump proposed. There are so many hidden policy gems Trump has done to put America first that you would never discover following mainstream media.
