I am a 'bit rigid, about my view of the world, though in view, not conversation of it.
I've thought before, how I might try going about changing my view, of disbelief in the paranormal, supernatural, anything 'more than what I'm expecting.
Only method that comes to mind is a solitary road trip of every location I can lay ears on, that's claimed to 'be such,
But I expect such a search would come to naught.
Other than that, for me it's just asking people's view on souls, now and then, listening to what they say.

weirdo
a person whose dress or behavior seems strange or eccentric.
strange
unusual or surprising in a way that is unsettling or hard to understand.
eccentric
(of a person or their behavior) unconventional and slightly strange.
Subjective, I suppose.
But subjective in the fashion, a number of people would agree with my view, I 'think.
Of certain types of individuals on various forums.
Though they agreeing or disagreeing, isn't the criteria, I'd say. But 'how they might do so, in either fashion.

What is a soul to you,
Your definition of it,
Or gist of what you consider it?

@EtrnlVw
It's possible that materialism is direct contrast to what we truly are,
But it does not seem so to me.
Take Phineas Gage - Wikipedia.
Man takes a railroad spike to the brain, becomes a different person, as consequence.
To my definition of the soul it exists 'quite materially, despite one's hopes is 'not unconquerable, free from the evil of mortal men.
All one needs do is interact with another in this material world, and the individual is affected.
Whether nature is born of nurture, or nurture of nature,
What a person 'is, exists within influence.
. . .
Egyptians and Saxons, one might have called spiritual,
As they buried material possessions and with their dead,
Or the Greeks placed coins upon a person's eyes.
Whether due to some believing in an after, where these goods traveled, or in individuals who believed it the end, but wished to assuage their 'own spirits, by doing honor to the dead.
Reaching closure and farewell.
. . .
Idle thought,
I suppose the people who equivalate God with Good,
Might view the worship of such as a worthy use of time,
People must dedicate their time and effort to 'something, I suppose.

In a materialistic sense,
One can still view their soul as existing,
Though hardly possessing the robustness of some religions.
But it becomes instead, their sense of identity, personality, memory, aspects of oneself in behavior, preference, reaction, self.
If I define a soul as I can best define 'ME,
I think psychology works well enough.
For the afterlife, other than my actions reverberating, my energy continuing, there's not much of an afterlife, none at 'all, to my way of thinking.
Defining myself more by the existence of my 'particular being, shape, existence.
The energy just animates me,
The shape could be duplicated perfectly, but that copy wouldn't be 'ME, though being me in 'near every which way.
I'm rambling,
A point though, of psychology.
Humans commonly 'have the need to believe in an after, give meaning to their existence, a fear of cessation, or a disbelief that it can end.
Through psychology, one can understand this, and offer various outlets of expression.
. . .
My contentedness varies.
But I see that variation as part of the human condition.

If something 'more than this material world, and the concepts wherein, exists.
I imagine you're right.
But meaning, purpose, fulfillment, gratification, seem 'findable to me at the present.
If I'm unsatisfied some moments, I view it as a temporary moment, just a breath of time, that luck and circumstance willing, leaves.
To myself, psychology well enough 'explains aspects of spirituality, though itself does not fulfill them, it does point to various options which can.
Created:

@EtrnlVw
"Yet it's much more specific than that. The human condition has a lot of baggage to it that has no relevance to spirituality and its purpose. Perhaps the term is vague to you, because you see no objective value in its usage as it pertains to your soul."- EtrnlVw
Likely.
As I don't believe in an afterlife, or the soul, in terms more than psychology, or times I wax poetic.
I can agree with what you say of trust, but verify.

@EtrnlVw
Spirituality is a bit of a vague term, I 'think.
Personally, I view it a bit as wisdom of the human condition.
Individuals can be wise, without receiving any great education, but their knowledge can be lacking of objective truth at times, seems to me.
An example of this could be someone who reads the Bible, by their reading of it, thinking on it, they might come to clever realizations or interpretations.
But if the Bible is history in places, needs context for what certain parts mean, then the laypersons wisdom, though valid for themself, others, many situations, is 'still not the truth of the book.
When people place a large amount of emphasis on a single interpretation, as being the intent of the author, then there's importance that it be confirmed as well as can be.
. . .
Though if it's not meant as the objective truth, I mind wisdom less.
And can admit easy enough, a person doesn't need to be a scholar , or appointed individual,
To learn something worthwhile from them.
It 'is common though, as can be seen easily enough on this debate site for instance,
That there are sources people agree on as being valid for what they say as being the truth,
Their statistics, claimed facts, and such.
. . .
For myself, I enjoy learning about what others think of situations, think it valuable to me.
Though I'm satisfied for the 'most part, with who I am now,
I can still be better,
Life's so vast, I've not learned everything I might, never will.
But there's knowledge that can help me for possible future situations,
Knowledge that can help me in current situations,
Whether in how I 'see, how I 'react.
Still, it's more a pastime, than a pursuit.

It really is a shame, that there's so many weirdos in the religious section.
Personally, if I wanted to make a serious effort at learning more about religions, I'd reach out to scholars, religious teachers, church leaders, and such.
But myself, my minds made up, that learning about religion, is 'not a serious effort for myself.

I don't always feel a need to say I've read your post and am thinking on it.
Though for this 'particular topic, I've simply lost interest.
I also don't think that my claim was outrageous.
Seems a safe assertion to make, that the news is biased.
I find the people arguing the news lacks bias, is objective and equal to all, absurd.
But I also 'don't care to argue it.
Though I may be wrong, when a conclusion is self evident to oneself, they see it as a waste of time, at times, to belabor the point.
With the race issue we discussed, my mind 'also wasn't changed, I just lost interest.
My interest in various activities waxes and wanes at times, currently for debating, I'm more waning than waxing.

Eh, peer pressure's just another influence in life.
Though maybe cockroaches are 'more susceptible to it than humans.
For 'many species though, humans included, peer pressure and group movement can be useful.
Sometimes people are running for a reason,
Sometimes it's easier to avoid danger in a group,
Sometimes hunting and team sports are easier, when there is shared exuberance and spirit.
Though it can be bad, and lead to dumb decisions.
Such as smoking,
Crime,
Feel awkward or not included if 'not following.
Just something to be aware of, make use of, or avoid, depending.

The same with BrotherDThomas, in my view.
'But, they don't bother me, because I don't interact with them.
If the individuals they 'do bother, choose not to report them, then I feel I'm butting into their business by reporting someone they themselves did not report.
What's the 'point in calling out individuals who may be one of the following?
Troll,
Mentally ill,
Ill formed in development of beliefs,
An extremist of uncommon zeal, twisted in mind and belief.
Such people quite often 'can't be reasoned with.
It's like talking to a brick wall,
Well, a brick wall that's also intelligent and verbally insults you for your trouble, and forces you to listen and critique bad arguments.
Why are you arguing with a wall that insults you and forces you to listen to bad arguments?
. . .
True. But surely you would agree that some christian somewhere is a representative of christianity? Why can't the brother be that paradigm example? - Timid8967
Sigh, why need I waste my time on this?
Let's look at his first post in the forums,
How many people do you see taking him seriously in that thread?
Generally in it, he's mocked, derided as either a troll, or a delusional extremist who is perverting the Christian religion.
If not so, then how so? If the brother is putting himself out there as the only true christian on this site, surely he must be representative of some form of christianity. I think that if brother is a christian he is a good reason not be to be one and to think that christians are evil. - Timid8967
We already went over this, with just because X many of a group do something, it doesn't mean the entire group does that.
But athiests are a dime a dozen. They all have different views - there one common denominator is a disbelief in god. christians purport that they all believe the same thing because they all follow the same book and same god. - Timid8967
There are 'many atheists, 'many Christians, 'many Muslims, they're 'all a dime a dozen, by their numbers on this Earth.
Besides, not all Christians agree with one another, nor all Muslims agree with one another.
They have variance in their doctrines and policy.
. . .
Defining Christians and Christianity, I'm lazy, and I'm an atheist, I don't, this moment, want to spend my time researching, defining, and typing up an essay on a religion I don't follow.
So I'll steal someone elses words.
"Christianity was not created by setting down a list of rules one day, but emerged gradually and organically from a number of groups that, in some fashion or other, venerated Jesus as Christ (i.e. messiah, “anointed one of God”).I think it’s fairly safe to say that Christians are theists who believe, in some fashion or other, in the existence of a god; and, moreover, a single supreme god rather than a pantheon of more-or-less equals. They also all venerate Jesus of Nazareth as “Christ”, or it’s hard to see where they’d get the label “Christian” in the first place.Beyond that, it’s varied tremendously from time to time and place to place. The mainstream (Nicene) Christian view is that there is only one god, whom they call “God”; and that Jesus was the son of God, and also co-equal with God; and that his execution by crucifixion was a planned and important act of salvation, in some sense or other. But other Christians have disagreed: some thought that Jesus was very great indeed but inferior to God; some thought there were multiple (perhaps many) gods, though only one is supreme; some thought that Jesus was purely human, others purely divine, others (like the mainstream) fully both, others part one and part the other; some thought that the crucifixion was incidental and that Jesus’s teachings were what mattered…and so on.Personally, I think that it is hopeless to define Christianity by any set of rules. I prefer to think of it in terms of a different epistemology, by asking: what do we mean, exactly, by definition? Does a definition have to be a set of binary criteria such that only if you meet a certain set of them do you qualify for the definition? Some would say No, and a prime example is the Family resemblance idea of definitions introduced by Wittgenstein. As Wikipedia summarises it,It argues that things which could be thought to be connected by one essential common feature may in fact be connected by a series of overlapping similarities, where no one feature is common to all. Games, which Wittgenstein used as an example to explain the notion, have become the paradigmatic example of a group that is related by family resemblances.I propose that the best useful way to define a religious group such as Christianity is by this form of definition. Else, your quest is almost hopeless, for whatever list of rules you pick, you’re sure to find groups who call themselves Christians who think that you’ve omitted things that are absolutely essential to being Christian; or that you’ve included things that are incidental or perhaps completely wrong; or more likely both. Thus, I would suggest that the best way to make use of the other answers to this question is to browse them all, but take none of them at face value; instead extract from them their various beliefs and construct a “family resemblance” definition from them, perhaps weighted by how often they appear."- Petter Häggholm

Situations make certain outcomes likely, but they need not 'be.
Having awareness of oneself, motivation, can change a path.
But an individual 'still needs to come across that external 'cause of awareness or motivation, maybe.
Public libraries exist, organizations that will help a person develop in life, if they ask, information in the USA is more widespread than ever.
Saving money, budgeting 'would help a person's situation, I imagine.
Make it more possible to take time off, for online classes, or fund a move to another city.
Of drug addiction.
Alcohol Anonymous, and other such organizations 'do exist.
My family has reached out and pleaded with my 2nd brother to quit drugs,
But he has not the interest or motivation to change.
If he was willing to quit drugs, and get a job, we 'would help him, and it 'would be done.
But not everyone has family, or family that is willing to help, though some people 'can't be helped feels like, only help themselves.
I 'do believe America is a land of opportunity, where many safety nets exist, organizations, if people will but look.
But I think it 'certain, that I underestimate poverty, or climbing one's way up in society.
Perhaps I overestimate the sources of help, as well.
In any case, a person can't simply try, molded by their environment or genes, they 'won't feel motivation, until some internal change by time or the external occurs.
Maybe.

As well as them being true to themselves and their beliefs, without acting in a manner they do not believe or not 'wish to do.

Well, I vaguely recall Plato disliking art, as he felt it 'wasn't useful to what he saw as an ideal society, in his book, The Republic.
Hitler, didn't like some modern art, as he thought it fostered degeneracy or something.
He even had some fellow hold an exhibition of the 'bad art, but canceled the exhibition, after it kept getting attention from viewers.
. . .
Regarding utility though, I'd imagine that we create art for a 'purpose usually.
Though it need not be so 'physical as the roof of the house.
Though I suppose pretty or beautiful things invoke reactions inside a person,
Depression or happiness 'is physical in a way, expressed in our actions and energy, our interest or quality in work.
Sad or disturbing art, can make us thoughtful of events that require our situation, or appreciative of what we have.
Or just the 'expression of art, in lifting our spirits in a comedy, or startling our nerves as in horror films.

Helps me a bit, to see how you define it.
Though I'd imagine that exists in 'any modern day society.
If I go to China, I should complain about Asian privilege, or I go the the Congo, I ought complain about Black privilege?
Race 'does have a 'bit of realism, 'I think, though I refer to it as a bit hazy myself.
It just becomes fuzzier, the wider a net one throws.
Culture, roots, tradition, territory, blood, matter to some people.
Though if you go with the out of Africa theory, we've all roots together there.
The Irish, Celts, Scots, Brits, seemed to find enough difference among themselves, to consider each other different races.
And they 'were in a fashion, the different tribes being more connected with their 'own villages, genetically, culturally, than the 'other nearby villages.
Other than breed out race to the point it's seen the same as hair or eye color, what's the solution?
Though people are 'still going to be effected in society by what they are.
Tall people becoming CEOs, redheads being considered fiery.
. . .
Or if we discover a greater enemy humanity might unite against genetically, culturally, like space aliens.
Personally, I prefer the view, that if a society is intentioned not to prejudice on race.
All it 'can do, is be colorblind, and focus on merit.
Though I suppose, having Judges for example, have training/classes on the existence of unconscious bias, 'might help to alleviate drlebronskis concerns, about unequal sentencing of individuals, due to their skin or sex.
'Without it being seen as favoring one group above another, as some people complain about colleges or businesses hiring people for the group they belong to, rather than merit.

There are many things that are considered inherently bad/evil in the Abrahamic religions which leaves little room for understanding/knowing the importance of critical thought for devout believers. - Reece101
Well, even religion, the religious disagree on issues, history, meaning of events.
There can be nuance I'd argue, and if times it becomes 'uncomfortable, the one's in influence 'insisting on their view. .
Does not one see the same picture in human government and society?
Religion need not be mentioned then, enough that a community insists upon a certain view of their countries history, or the evils of Communism/Capitalism.
Additionally, in a number of religions, I'd argue there's pieces included for the 'point, of critical thought.
Whether parables in the Bible, stories as Job, or King David and the man who steals a lamb.
Zen Buddhism's use of koans, to demonstrate the inadequacy of logical reasoning and to provoke enlightenment.
. . .
Course on the other hand, some devout believers might not take kindly to questioning and kritiks, to their faith, be it Theists, Atheists, Capitalists, Communists.
Blasphemy, degenerates of culture, society, and traitors, what.

Do you mean,

I've 'heard of Kant, and Lying to the Murderer at the Door.
Though I don't remember the 'implications,
Of differentiating between something being inherently bad or depending on the circumstance.
I don't like lying for multiple reasons.
I don't like to lie out of habit, because I don't like the 'action of lying, I don't like lying because it often results in distrust, I don't like lying because I view it as a sign of weakness that I had to resort to lying.
But these reasons 'usually are not on my mind.
My actions in life, are more often spontaneous, while there is likely framework built up inside me, habits nurtured, thoughts realized and value placed, I don't 'realize all of them, when making decisions.
I don't like lying, for the aesthetic, of I like the 'look of not being a liar, more.
Humans are complicated, life is long, many switches are flicked, new data added, variables at odds with one another.
Motivations vary.
I like calling myself a nihilist, but one is still influenced by nature and nurture.
Their fleshy yearnings, their cultural reinforcements.
Though I doubt the 'objectivity of them, I was born into it, molded by it.
I'm not bothered myself, by values being considered inherently bad/evil in the Abrahamic religions.
Because I view a number of irreligious values, being considered inherently bad/evil by society.
Sure there's reason and logic, but it all depends on presuppositions.
Ah, but I'm rambling disjointedly.
Gist is,
I take much at face value, change a bit to suit myself and my ideas.
Religion or Atheistic Humanism,
A mix of consequence, and the ideals in themselves.
Though, I recall a number of Deities, put great faith in their oaths, words.
I recall old myths about Gods, Greek or Roman, I forget.
But how they would give their word, and some terrible situation would occur, by which they could not say no to, less they break their word, but their word, they would not break, and thus terrible situation occur.
Also Norse Gods, now that I think of it.

I have difficulty enjoying Comics and their 'other media adaptations, in too heavy a dose.
The reboots, multiverses, different incarnations, alternate timelines,
'Irritate me somehow.
Also I just dislike things that are popular, a bit sometimes.
I don't think I'd say Marvel or DC movies are better than one another to me.
What matters more is the 'individual examples, good and bad can be found in either group.

Interesting post, not knowing much of Islam myself, it's an addition to my knowledge, to hear people speak their experiences, opinions of it. Positive, negative, or neutral.
To be fair, most everyone has values, and tends to consider 'something degenerate.
One might argue the West makes 'too much of an effort to appease the outgroup.
A tent too large, trying to envelop everyone it can, replacing structure with fabric, that it's unable to support itself.
Though I worry I'm growing xenophobic, in my views.

I'm an atheist, but losing faith because a prayer is not answered, seems shallow to me.
Seems a shallow way to view God and religion.
Still, let me pretend to be a theist for a moment, and I might answer your question of prayer's purpose this way.
Hope I don't seem condescending or snooty, it's just my view of religion.
. . .
If an individual prays for their sins to be forgiven, and another prays for that individuals sins 'not to be forgiven. . .
You think you'll trap God in a paradox?
There's a lot of self importance, pettiness, in the idea, that anything you pray for, 'ought be granted.
With how old this universe seems to be, and the importance religious individuals lay upon the 'after, upon the 'immortality of souls. . .
Prayer, 'is a way of being connected with God,
Of finding strength 'through him, and that connection,
Of being 'aware of reality and what is, by meditation upon it,
Of being aware of 'more, than this material world,
In our thoughts of a situation, viewing it from angles, we might find peace, or a view which escaped us before prayer,
Of spiritual discipline, and knowledge of higher value,
It's calming effect, in our connection,
In celebration,
In acknowledgement,
In that it provides support, in difficult times, as a babe might cry, in hopes of their worries and concerns being allieved, though they know not the world, or the parent's plan.
Of hope,
Of affirmation, that our 'own plans might be in Gods plan, or that by grace, by support, by 'faith in him, that we succeed.

Oh I wrote down what I was going to say, but didn't bother saving the wordpad, so when I restarted my computer because of updates, my unconstructive criticism was gone. Probably for the best.
A day has passed, and I feel no annoyance now, least not enough to care about thinking about it again.
How do you define CRT, or is there some reference you use to define it?

I don't think the purpose of prayer, is as a wish granting lamp?
