Claiming there's 'no biological, genetic, or even environmental connection in sexual orientation, is indeed 'not something I believe.
Unless I was to become semantic about it, and even then, being straight or quitting the most addicting drugs on your own without help would be a choices, if I went that direction, just ends up a bit silly to deny, hm, I'm not sure of the word,
But some word describing 'effect. The choices we make being 'effected by various circumstance, that they incline us, or end up it's near certain we go certain directions in life. Influence maybe. Of biology, experiences.

Really? Interesting if true,
Oh, seems there is a study that claims that.

If study claim is true, I wonder if that'd be due to biology or psychology.

I don't know if this is true of not,
Not that I know if gay individuals would have more or 'less testosterone. I mention it 'just to remark on biology.

But there's also the argument in psychology of familiarity.

I am largely ignorant of Islam.
Religion I'm most familiar with is (General) Christianity, which has seen 'many denominations, changes.
So it's likely I make erroneous comparisons.
Though I suppose Catholics might maintain fairly solid solidarity, and consistency in their beliefs, given their common ties to the Pope and the Catholic Church.

But it 'does seem to me when glancing about history, that religions, depending on the countries practiced in, the leaders, amount of war at times, aggression. End up fairly tolerant at times, or intolerant, but 'depending on time and circumstance.

I've been given to understanding that at various times and locations, Islam has been a religion tolerant of the existence and practice of religions different than it's own?

 Sorry if this is lengthy,
Overall 'gist of all three though, (In how I view them)
Is how people's conditions, environments, chance, have an effect in how they turn out.
The luck they're blessed with.

Maybe Dr. Carson's outcome is more an 'exception, than a rule.
I'm not saying people in hard times 'can't work their way out, but it 'is often difficult I imagine, odds against.
Though people being responsible for their own fates, even in bad straits, is a line of thinking I pursue myself.
Applying it to many 'including myself.

Though I'm 'still not 'fond of government regulated charity myself, be better in communities and individuals did that themselves.
I prefer government keeping to the functions of protecting our liberties, rather than telling us what to do.

To quote 3RU7AL,

"Once upon a time there was a strong tree.

This tree was the largest tree in the area.

One day, an acorn asked the tree how it grew so strong.

Well, little one, the tree replied, I was once a little acorn just like yourself!

I didn't fall in exactly the ideal spot, with the richest soil, there were many rocks around and it was a bit sandy, but I made the best of my situation, kept my chin-up, dug down as deep as I could, sprouted in the spring time, that's important, then I diligently soaked up as much water and minerals and sunshine as I could.

I had a few competitors around that time, other acorns had sprouted, and there was a lot of tall grass and weeds, but I just kept a positive attitude and did what came naturally.

The little acorn asked, what happened to the other saplings?

Well, the tree explained, they were all cut down by the farmer.

The little acorn asked, why were they cut down and why did the farmer spare you?

The tree thought for a second and then replied carefully, they were inferior, they weren't true to themselves, the wise farmer knew that I was the best and spared me because only a sapling with my work ethic and authenticity could grow into such a mighty tree.

The farmer even placed this nice picnic table in the shade of my branches to reward me for being superior.

That's amazing! The little acorn exclaimed, I'll follow your advice because I want to be just like you!

A whole year passed and the little acorn grew into a formidable sapling.

And then, in the spring, the farmer came to clear the brush.

The sapling was unceremoniously uprooted and bundled up and carried away with all the overgrown grass and fallen twigs.

With it's last dying breath it asked the strong tree, what did I do wrong?

The tree shrugged, you just didn't have the talent for it kid. You doubted yourself. You didn't suck up enough water and minerals and sunshine. You weren't true to yourself.

It's your own fault."

"There are a zillion and one contemporaries of J.D. Rockefeller who were just as "smart" or "smarter" who were "100% true to themselves" and worked hard all day every day and they didn't "make it to the top".
What we're dealing with is SAMPLE-BIAS, more specifically SURVIVOR-BIAS.
...and the fundamental-attribution-error." - 3RU7AL

. . .

The Parable of the Sower
13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:
“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a]
16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
Matthew 13 (NIV)

. . .

"Mencius said, "The woods on Ox Mountain were once beautiful! On account of its being on the edge of a large country, it had been attacked with axes and hatchets, and then how could it remain beautiful? The refreshing breezes of day and night, and the moisture provided by rain and fog, did not fail to give rise to sprouts of vegetation. But cows and sheep have been repeatedly pastured there, and for that reason it has remained desolate. People observe its denuded state and assume that it never had any good resources. But how could this state be the true nature of this mountain?" — Mencius, 6A:8

Mencius argued that "bad" human natures were produced just as the bad condition of Ox Mountain had been produced, so the answer to "bad" humans was to protect and nurture them from birth. He also thought that punishment does not do much good. It does not cure the root of the problem."

Prefer that other countries match step, or 'insist on such, depending on the level of divergence in custom.

It's called assimilation.
If someone 'insists on a sperate identity, and 'highlights their difference, and race, who's the one pointing out race?

If people want to stick to their culture, that's fine.
Just a nuance of society sometimes, "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down."

Doesn't matter if it's an African name like Shaka, some Old English name like Herewald, or some old age Hippie naming their son Peace.
Awareness matters, how one presents themself to the world matter.
Stick out if you like, but don't complain about it.

@Aryanman
As I glance over the Wikipedia article for Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, I see this
Some achievements of the Shah—such as broadened education—had unintended consequences. While school attendance rose (by 1966 the school attendance of urban seven- to fourteen-year-olds was estimated at 75.8%), Iran's labour market could not absorb a high number of educated youth. In 1966, high school graduates had "a higher rate of unemployment than did the illiterate", and the educated unemployed often supported the revolution.[277]

And I am reminded of a book I read 3-5 years ago.
The Psychology of Dictatorship by Fathali M. Moghaddam
I don't remember 'most of the book, but I 'do remember one piece of it. Let me find the book and page. . .
Ah, there it is, page 66,

"How does one explain revolutions such as one in Iran in 1978-1979 when the 1973 oil price increases resulted in a huge boom the the Iranian economy? I was a student in England at the time and regularly visited Iran in the 1970s; the economy was rapidly expanding. Why did a revolution come about in an expanding economy? This gets at the heart of another paradox discussed by various researchers (J.C. Davies, 1974; Runciman, 1966):
Revolutions often take place during periods of economic growth.
The key to this paradox seems to be feelings of relative depravation arising out of rising expectations. A central psychological component of this process is the social comparisons people make (Corconan, Crusius, & Mussweiler, 2011), particularly at the intergroup level (Taylor, Moghaddam, & Bellerose, 1989) In assessing their own situation, people make comparisons with themselves as they expected to be. For example Ahmed compares himself with particular others around him, but he also compares his situation with the situation he expected to have (as Lamiell, 2003, demonstrated, people often come to assess their situation by comparing themselves to the persons they could be) When what Ahmed expected to have is far better than what he actually has - for example, he expected to be driving a new car but is instead taking the bus - he feels relatively deprived. Leaders can manipulate feelings of relative deprivation by influencing the social comparisons people make.

Manipulating Relative Deprivation

In Iran during the 1970s, expectations were rising faster than actual income, so that feelings of deprivation grew despite improving standards of living. The Shah and his cronies actually speeded up this process by suggesting that Iran was becoming the Switzerland of the Middle East. This was a fatal mistake because rising expectations among Iranians resulted in discontent with the Shah's regime. In contrast Khomeini seemed to have a natural instinct for dealing with such situations when he came to power. Instead of trying to meet expectations, or raise expectations with lofty promises, he dramatically lowered expectations after the revolution.
This was a reversal of course because before the revolution, Khomeini had raised expectations and highlighted how Iranians were deprived and how the Shah's regime was failing to provide adequate services to the Iranian population. In taped speeches that were smuggled into Iran and circulated widely (I personally listened to a number of these tapes), Khomeini made exciting promises about how the living conditions would improve for Iranians after the revolution and how they would receive free government services and enjoy a higher standard of living (These early, prerevolution speeches have been wiped clean from the postrevolution records within Iran). But after the revolution and the consolidation of his monopoly on power, Khomeini radically changed his message: This world is of no value, and material things are worthless! We must strive to please God and only think of our fate in the next world! The material life is not of value; we must dedicate ourselves to the spiritual life! By dramatically lowering the expectations about material conditions and living standards in this material world, Khomeini shifted the discourse and lowered expectations among Iranians." - The Psychology of Dictatorship by Fathali M. Moghaddam

Watched the video,
Shah Of Iran Critisizing Britain

I think he makes fair points, and had reasonable expectations of his country continuing on course, to be of a more equal position, not exploited of foreign powers.

From what I've read, women's rights were improving under the Shah of Iran, but the improvements made, went to the wayside, after the Shah fell from power.
I've also heard that the Shah's regime had numerous flaws, as well as a large amount of corruption.
But I've never looked into the subject deeply, I just have shallow impressions of Iran and hearsay from others.

My reasoning has stayed the same.

Grades, are just another method in defining an individual.
A mental handicapped, is going to have difficulty passing the minimum score, thus at it's 'minimum use, an IQ test proves itself in value.

Conscientiousness,
I'd argue that people who score higher grades and take the time to study, Are on the whole, More conscientious of their duties and responsibilities, More reliable in 'doing what is expected of them.
I don't see a problem with including paper grades as a method in grading people, Same as I don't see a problem with using physical tests of fitness, As a method in grading people.
It isn't 'everything, But it is 'something to go on.

Implication,
Receiving an F on a math test, 'is going to imply to me, that an individual is an idiot, 'especially if it keeps happening.
It's not a certainty they're an idiot, maybe they're lazy, maybe they can't read the language the test is printed in, maybe they're nervous,
But implications 'lead to conclusions, are placed with other facts, and lend credence to a hypothesis.

A person could fail to complete a one mile run, It doesn't 'mean they are unhealthy.
Maybe they had a sprain, Or just didn't feel like it,
But it 'is 'a measure.

We don't 'need to judge 'anyone, Based on 'one aspect or action of theirs, But instead the mixture of them over time.

The military has the ASVAB, essentially an IQ test.
Different races in America, appear to score at different levels,
'Personally, I'd ascribe this to culture, history, living conditions, environmental. 'Not race.

But assumedly, some races would have an easier time entering the military than others, or 'qualifying for higher IQ jobs.
'Personally, I'd rather look at this on an individual basis, That individuals merits, matter, not their race.
That the military 'system isn't racist.

But a person focused on 'differences in representation, would say, the military is racist? I'd assume.
Am I wrong?

Same problem with women in the military, must we lower standards, safety, so that women are equally represented in every piece of it?
Or perhaps we need to divert funds to training women and encouraging them to enter the military, so they have 'equal participation?
Though that 'still wouldn't work.

If a person has a tribalistic bent for their family, or clan, or nation. It 'really doesn't matter if the other guy's smarter, or stronger, what matters to someone with such a bent, is whether their 'own people can survive, or better thrive. Defeat their enemies, even if superior.

If we focus on 'groups, as worthy of interest, how is the racist wrong for focusing on his 'own group, as worthy of interest?

The point I mean is, if different groups are recognized to exist, and helping one group will 'not help other groups, assuming one believes in a zero sum game.
For example, the 'ratio of groups to one another, in a percentage, in a country.
Well, if groups can be identified as being 'singular to themselves, one can assume their interests are as well.
If one chooses to ignore race, and decide we'll all be interbred into a breed, then there's little problem.
But if 'interests are recognized, races 'clarified. . . 'well.

Though maybe it's just nonsensical wandering thought on my part.

'That's an unpopular support of Trump?
After 'all his errors?
'That's the best the Democratic nominee could do?

'That's something to say, well, we handled that fine?

That's a lot of words, I thought the Democrats tried to impeach him on the Ukraine thing already, and he was found innocent/acquitted?
Too bad they didn't try the censure option, 'had to go for the impeachment, and try to overturn the election of Trump to the presidency.

Or was that the one he 'was impeached on, they all blend together for me, really.

. . .

"So if in-person voting is safe, then why are Democrats pushing belated and risky changes toward all-mail balloting in key states?
The answer is quite simple: Democrats believe that all-mail voting will boost the political chances of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and sow chaos and uncertainty in case of a victory by President Trump."

"Democrats claim there is little evidence of fraud associated with all mail-in ballots. Don’t buy it. There is plenty of evidence of election crimes and administrative errors associated with mail-in voting.
Look no further than a recent New York congressional primary, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s late shift to mail-in voting led to chaos. Election officials disqualified thousands of ballots for not having timely postmarks and the election was not certified for six weeks."

"Problems with mail-in voting are not new. In 2005, the bipartisan Commission on Federal Election Reform found mass voting by mail remains “the largest source of potential voter fraud.”"

. . .

  • Trump repeatedly stated that he hoped that the Supreme Court would (unconstitutionally) decide the election and that he wanted a conservative majority in case of an election dispute.
    • To this end, Republicans expedited the October nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Court in spirt of hypocritically and vehemently refusing a February nomination before the previous election.
Well that's just politics, it's not 'nice, maybe bad long term strategy, but politics.

. . .

  • Mail-in ballots overwhelming favored Biden.
Something that the Democrats 'intended, I'm sure.

. . .

Eh, whether Trump transferred power 'gracefully, is a different question.

. . .

insurrection, coup, bah.
Riot at most, and only for those who 'entered the building, not the thousands voicing their opinions 'outside.

I think there'd be poor of 'every race, being helped, if you just focused on helping the poor.
I also just dislike socialism, and big government.

In my eyes, it's a copout in America, to tell government, infringe my rights, take my money and structure the country as 'you see fit.

If people 'meant to help the poor in America, they are not incapable of founding charities, of working as Greenpeace does but 'in America, building houses, roads, infrastructure.
People are not incapable of forming organizations, in which they are able to study to achieve a GED, or job skills.
Are not incapable of devoting their time to others.
Of founding 'movements and organizations.

But perhaps I overestimate people.
And their decision to say, government 'grow, fix all our problems, is the only solution.

Tax dollars will be used regardless of the payers skin color. - drlebronski
So why is the topic named, Should reparations be provided for slavery?
If it's just about improving the livelihood of the lower class in America?
Something we 'already do to degrees, I assume?

"I’ve found that ultimately candidates do what they most want to do. This is never truer than when a candidate and campaign are under stress. It’s a natural instinct, the same phenomena of when someone who is multilingual reverts to his native tongue when most angry."
Was the thesis, referred to by the writer, 'not,
"Aug 3rd 2020..." For decades, the party [ republican] admitted that was in fact a failure and at least attempted to change. But now it has settled into a comfortable embrace of white grievance and Trump is running as the Yankee George Wallace."

"..."Republican Kevin McCarthy is leading his party to an inflection point, preparing to dump Rep. Liz Cheney from the No. 3 House leadership position and transform what’s left of the party of Lincoln more decisively into the party of Trump."...."
Yes, Trump 'still has a large pull with the Republican party, and I am not surprised.
My entire 'earlier post, was my describing my dislike of the Left, and 'how they went about opposing Trump.
Instead of trying to split the Republicans from Trump by guile, they attacked Trump in direct and objectionable manner.
Russian Conspiracies, claiming everything is fine at the border, we ought just let everyone in, always fixed on impeachment, the media dragging out every corpse and skeleton under then sun, and additional ones where there weren't any.
They sabotaged themselves, they're just lucky Trump met a natural disaster, and his 'own self sabotage.

Sure the election Trump wins was the most sabotaged election of all time, but Biden's win is swept under the rug, no questions asked, the 'most 'secure of all time.

Still, though I'm an Independent, I'd sooner vote for Trump, than Biden.
But I voted third party, for family reasons.

I would expect the editors of a school newspaper, even for a private, conservative college with only 1500 undergrads, to know more about journalistic ethics than to suppose that endorsement=subjective bias in reporting. - oromagi
For information of a person, scenario, event to be indicative of possible meaning, it doesn't need to be =.
It's a drop on the scales, not flipping them over, but adding to the measurement.

The overwhelming majority of Americans hated Trump- always have.  Probably the best known candidate to ever run for  the office and easily the most despised. - oromagi
Always?

Long seemed to me from the start of his presidency, that the Left and the Media, showed their hand, their bias, and opposition to Trump too strong.
If they'd exercised a bit of restraint, tact, I think they could have won over the people sooner.
It's of no congratulations to the Left or Media, that Trump is lower than ever.

If not for Covid appearing out of nowhere,
If not for Trumps ill handling of his election,
He'd 'still have had enough support to win election, seems to me.

Ahh, the Democrats, always fixed on impeachment, the media dragging out every corpse and skeleton under then sun, and additional ones where there weren't any.
They sabotaged themselves, they're just lucky Trump met a natural disaster, and his 'own self sabotage.

Sure the election Trump wins was the most sabotaged election of all time, but Biden's win is swept under the rug, no questions asked, the 'most 'secure of all time.

My difficulty with a number of Left talking points is their vagueness, both in definition and action to be taken.
