is it possible for a judge to "objectively" enforce the law ?
Depends on the narrative.
that sounds a lot like a "NO"
Depends on who hears it.
please explain if you intend this to be a "yes" or a "no" or a "maybe sometimes"

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Now, do you think asking questions in some way answers questions?
what makes you think a dragonfly has "consciousness" ?

Consciousness, via volitional action, increases the likelihood that an organism will direct its attention, and ultimately its movements, to whatever is most important for its survival and reproduction.

Snarky political mode: If the media bias of the magnitude required to report Trump endorsed bleach injections or slanderously claim he supported neonazis at Charlottesville was turned on Biden they would say this is an admission of pedophilia.

Tounge-in-cheek mode: I wonder if the site rules now prohibit anyone from supporting Biden?

Objective mode: This combined with the diary, the sniffing, the pool story, the lack of Epstein related prosecutions all combine to give the pedo witchhunt crowd plenty of material to work with; if he had any marbles left he would be extra careful but he doesn't. The man is not responsible for what comes out of his mouth at this point, he belongs on the rocker; and saying "we go way back" is hardly an admission of pedophilia.
Neither Biden nor Trump were accused of pedophilia.

Atheism: there is no god, therefore there is no afterlife, therefore nothing you do or think matters at all. There is no moral standpoint, only what you like matters.
ATHEISM is simply "not a theist"

it has absolutely nothing to do with "afterlife" or AXIOLOGY or any other ONTOLOGICAL and or EPISTEMOLOGICAL questions

Apparently, you don't know what epistemological means.

If you ascribe to physicalism, why is a physical state conscious?  Why (and how) are physical processes accompanied by experience?
For the brain to process a stimulus it has to be conscious and tuned in with the five senses. Touch, smell, taste etc.
Experience In a different sense  refers not to conscious events themselves but to the knowledge and practical familiarity they bring with them.[
For there to be an experience, there needs to be an experiencer, consciousness is the conceptual space within which we find the experieence, it's the entity that experiences, no consciousness, no experience, no consciousness, no knowlege.
Experience is what has been stored in the brain as memory of that event as well as the ability of the brain to recall that event or feeling or knowledge.
Under hypnosis patients can recall past experiences despite being in a trance-like state(semi conscious).

Out of Africa Theory revisited
-->
@Stephen
--> @Harikrish
If you take the Genesis account. The garden of Eden was not in Africa. The Jews being the diect descendants of Adam and Eve were not Africans. In fact Christians trace the lineage of Africans to Ham.

When you actually look at this closely, it can be seen that the "first humans" were created somewhere else (Africa ?) and then placed in the Eden believed today to be Iraq.
The bible does not tell us all the humans descended from Africa. The Bible tells us all the humans descended from Noah after the flood and his children Shem, Japheth and Ham started the nations each carving out separate countries for their descendants.
Four Sons of Ham
1. Mizraim (Egypt)
2. Cush (Sudan, Ethiopia)
3. Put (Lybia)
4. Canaan (Land of Canaanites)

Five Sons of Shem
1. Elam (Arabia)
2. Asshur (Assyria)
3. Lud (Lydians)
4. Aram (Aramaic, Armenia, Mesopotamia, Syria)
5. Arphaxad (From which Abraham descended)
Note, This debunks the Out of Africa Theory. Shem or his descendants were never in Africa.

3. Seven Sons of Japheth:
1. Javan (Greece, Romans, Romance -- French, Italians, Spanish, Portuguese)
2. Magog (Scythians, Slavs, Russians, Bulgarians, Bohemians, Poles, Slovaks, Croatians)
3. Madai (Indians & Iranic: Medes, Persians, Afghans, Kurds)
4. Tubal (South of Black Sea)
5. Tiras (Thracians, Teutons, Germans, Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon, Jutes)
6. Meshech (Russia)
7. Gomer (Celtic)
Note, This debunks the Out of Africa Theory. Japheth or his descendants were never in Africa.

Now you know why the curse of Ham only condemned Africans who were the descendants of Hams children who built the African nations.
Africans were owned and traded as slaves by the Arabs, Romans, Portuguese and Christians throughout their African history.

The Bible does not tell us Noah and all his children started out in Africa. It tells us only Ham and his children were the first Africans.
So the bible rebuts the Out of Africa Theory as the origins of humans

Americans love liars. They voted for one to the White House. I.e Trump. Trump lied before the UN. Bush lied about Iraq and WMD. JFK and LBJ lied about Vietnam. Clinton lied about sex with Lewinsky.
You forgot Joe. Joe lied about being in bed with the Chinese with his son Hunter

Trump’s Claims About Hunter Biden in China

President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Hunter Biden, without evidence, of making millions of dollars in a “payoff” from China, after accompanying his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, on a 2013 diplomatic trip to Beijing.
The claim involves a cross-border private equity fund involving some state-owned financial companies in China. Biden served on the management company’s board while his father was vice president, but his attorney says that was an unpaid position, that he did not create the company and has not yet received any money, let alone millions. The attorney says Hunter Biden only acquired a minority stake in the investment management company after his father left office.
We have found no evidence to contradict that, and Trump hasn’t provided any. We also found no evidence that Joe Biden used his position as vice president to enrich his son.

Yes it should. I find it strange that s/he has chosen to point out that it is in Victoria that it is a crime and not his/her home state of Melbourne. S/he's probably forgot where s/he actually lives this week.
I assume you realise that Melbourne is the capital city of the State of Victoria. Or are you just having a lend of Shila?

As for the legislation - go to the Victorian State Site. It is easy to find. All you need to do is google - how Victoria in the most progressive state in Australia in relation to gender legislation. https://www.legislation.vic.gov.au or if find that too difficult to navigate try https://www.austlii.edu.au/au/vic/   The first one is more authoritative in Victoria.  The second one more comprehensive.  you might learn something.

and by the way - I never said it was a criminal offence to talk about gender.  I was talking  about it being illegal to talk to someone about whether they are confused about their gender.  you may not appreciate the difference but the legislation does.

As for finding the specific piece of legislation and its penalties for breaking such laws - you are the wise and noble one - the one who knows their capital cities from their states.  You go and do it.
Not only has he forgotten where he actually lives. Tradesecret has even forgotten his true gender.

Australian Parents Fearful of Prosecution Under Victoria’s New Transgender Law
BY DECISION MAGAZINE STAFF   |    AUGUST 16, 2022   |   NEWS

A new law in Victoria, Australia, has parents fearful they will face prosecution if they don’t affirm their children’s preferred gender identity.

The Change of Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act 2021 was enacted on Feb. 17, 2022, and bans parents from engaging in any practice that does not encourage gender transition. Parents cannot deny their child puberty blockers, hormone treatments or gender transition surgeries. Parents also cannot seek out non-affirming counseling for their child in Victoria—or anywhere else in Australia.

The law also prevents counselors from providing talk therapy to children experiencing gender dysphoria.

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission has been tasked with policing the act. Anyone found guilty of breaking the law could be fined up to $10,000 or face up to 10 years in prison.

According to the Victorian government’s website about the law, “[Conversion] practices have no basis in medicine. There is no evidence that sexual orientation or gender identity can be changed.” But a professor of law at the University of Queensland, Patrick Parkinson, argues it’s the legislation that has no medical basis.

“The law is highly damaging to the wellbeing of some children, particularly because it discourages clinicians from engaging with children suffering from gender dysphoria or gender incongruence and could deprive them of the help they most need,” he said. “It has no scientific basis because there is no evidence for harm for therapy which helps children become more comfortable with their natal sex.”

One parent shared that her daughter suffers from anxiety and gender dysphoria. When she and her husband sought counseling for their daughter, no one wanted to take her on as a patient.

“One experienced mental health professional told us candidly that no one would see our child because it is too politicized,” Sarah said. “So, my child is just a political football for vote-chasing politicians. … It feels like the government is interfering in families and personal relationships. It is very enraging to think that.”

Dianna Kenny, a former professor of psychology at the University of Sydney, had been treating children with gender dysphoria for about four years and has noticed an uptick in Victorian parents seeking her help since the law took effect.

“Psychologists in Victoria are terrified of practicing non-affirming psychotherapy for children with gender dysphoria,” she said.

Kenny also noted that about 40% of children presenting with gender dysphoria have also been diagnosed with other mental health issues, such as autism.

“The majority of clinicians won’t go anywhere near it unless they agree with the gender affirming model because they fear running foul of the legislation, so they’re not treating children.”

Right” does not always mean “factually correct”. It has other applications.

An employer terminates an employee after determining the employee’s conduct was counterproductive to the company’s goals. If the determination is accurate, they made “the right move”. There is nothing objective about this decision because the company’s goals are very much subjective.

A dancer in the middle of a choreographed performance performs “the wrong move”. It’s wrong because it is not what was planned with the group. There is nothing objective about the move itself being wrong because the group could have decided the move to be anything they wanted.

A singer sings the wrong note to a song. There is nothing objective about this statement because songs can be sung in any way the singer wants and alternate renditions have been written many times before.

There is no need for any of this to be objective for us to recognize a right or a wrong. All we need is a shared starting point so that we can arrive at the same conclusions together.
All your examples are not   free from your personal considerations. Therefore they cannot be objective.

In Philosophy the distinction between objective and subjective normally refers to judgments and claims which people make. Objective judgments and claims are assumed to be free from personal considerations, emotional perspectives, etc. Subjective judgments and claims, however, are assumed to be heavily (if not entirely) influenced by such personal considerations.

I got a copy of a book. Started reading. I immediatelly noticed that the book is more fun, but also offers more explanation on Harrys thinking.
It offers more explanation on everyones thinking.
In fact, I managed to get 3 books. I noticed that the books are full of little debates and have plenty of explanations lacking in movies.
Just one more to go.

What do the 4 houses of Hogwarts represent?
Image result for hogwarts house movie
Each House represents one of the four classical elements: Fire (Gryffindor), Earth (Hufflepuff), Air (Ravenclaw), and Water (Slytherin). Each of these also represents one of the four states of matter: Plasma (Fire, Gryffindor), Gas (Air, Ravenclaw), Liquid (Water, Slytherin), and Solid (Earth, Hufflepuff).

2 consecutive quarters of NEGATIVE GDP. Very likely we will have a 3rd as well since Biden thinks he can spend his way out of it with your tax dollars.
2 weeks ago I bought a brand new Toyota Highlander from Irvine Toyota. They said it was only the fourth one they sold this year. Not because they don’t have buyers, but because it’s only the 4th one they received from the manufacturer. Is that the government’s fault or is that a failure of capitalism?
This is what is curbing GDP right now.
There is a problem with the supply chain. There is also a shortage of electronic chips which comes from Taiwan and China.
Bringing these products home by locally manufacturing them in America is not only a solution. It is good for the future economy and competitiveness.

China seems to have every type of economy applied. They have worker coops, they have Maos ideology, they have capitalist buisnesses, they have state run buisnesses, they have tax law with sometimes high sometimes low taxes...
But the wealth is also better distributed.

By 2027, we estimate that 1.2 billion Chinese will be in the middle class, making up one quarter of the world total. China already makes up the largest middle-class consumption market segment in the world and is a priority market for major multinational firms.Oct 1

“Not Us Again”

Former Officer Brandon Tatum shows a video of yet another store ransacked by black teens/adults, acting like a bunch of degenerate fools.

Fatherlessness is the cause of this degeneracy. Black people need to start taking personal responsibility and accountability for not only themselves, but their offspring as well. This country, let alone their own community cannot sustain this criminal behavior. Behavior that, as Mr. Tatum points out, that leaves others saying “no” to investment in black communities. The risk is too high, both financially and personally (including employees, if they can even find any wanting to work there).

If black people in America want meaningful change, they need to first look within and recognize that they are the first problem in this equation. Until they admit thee problem, no solution will be actualized.
Blacks were screaming with joy the store was giving away things for free. Only the ones who tried to pay felt cheated.

Objective: (o.1) (of a person or their judgment) not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts. (AND/OR) not dependent on the mind for existence; actual.[3]

(o.1a) antonyms: biased, partial, prejudiced[3]
(o.1b) antonyms: subjective[3]

For contrast, I would like to present a common definition of "subjective":

(IFF) (sj.1) Subjective: based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions. (AND/OR) dependent on the mind or on an individual's perception for its existence.[8]

(sj.1a) antonyms: objective[8]

And (IFF) "subjective" is an antonym of "objective" (THEN) "objective" can not be "based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions. (AND/OR) dependent on the mind or on an individual's perception for its existence."[8]

(4) Key support for resolution
Let's analyze the resolution "Science is not objective."

(k.1) Science as defined in (s.1) implies that "science" is the "knowledge" (data) acquired by "observation" (ostensibly by a human or possibly by more than one human).

(k.2) I believe it is fair to say that human observation is impossible without a human mind and an individual's (definitively subjective) perception and this fact would logically place "objectivity" beyond the scope of the human mind and an individual's perception according to the definitions presented previously as (o.1) and (o.1b).

The resolution could be restated as (s.1) is not (o.1).

(k.3) Another way to say this would be perhaps, "knowledge acquired by (human) observation is not (and cannot be) independent of the human mind and/or beyond human perception".

(5) Reinforcements
As far as I can tell, Karl Popper's Philosophy of Science is generally considered authoritative. Please let me know if you dispute this and we can attempt another approach.

"According to Popper, basic statements are "statements asserting that an observable event is occurring in a certain individual region of space and time" (1959, p. 85). More specifically, basic statements must be both singular and existential (the formal requirement) and be testable by [*]intersubjective[*] observation (the material requirement)."[5]

Therefore "science" is not "objective" and does not require "objectivity". This seems to be a common misconception about the fundamental nature of "science" and by extension, just about everything else, including "law" and "ethics", some people even think they have "objective opinions".

"Science" seems to function perfectly well under Popper's model. I am unable to detect any benefit to imagining that any particular thing has some sort of (detectable?) "objective" quality or existence.

In fact, Immanuel Kant points out pretty explicitly that "objective" noumenon is fundamentally undetectable and its "existence" cannot be inferred from observable phenomena.

"Even if noumenon are unknowable, they are still needed as a limiting concept, Kant tells us. Without them, there would be only phenomena, and since potentially we have complete knowledge of our phenomena, we would in a sense know everything. In his own words: "Further, the concept of a noumenon is necessary, to prevent sensible intuition from being extended to things in themselves, and thus to limit the objective validity of sensible knowledge."[6]

"...to prevent sensible intuition from being extended..."[6]

The quote makes it sound as if Kant is trying to "put a box around the concept of objectivity" in order to keep people from making the mistake of thinking they can know it, or in-fact even speculate about it intuitively.

(6) Common counter arguments
I would like to bring your attention to the following quotes,

"We have shown that it is hard to define scientific objectivity in terms of a view from nowhere and freedom from values and from personal bias. It is a lot harder to say anything positive about the matter."[7]

"For instance, our discussion of the value-free ideal (VFI) revealed that alternatives to the VFI are as least as problematic as the VFI itself, and that the VFI may, with all its inadequacies, still be a useful heuristic for fostering scientific integrity and objectivity. Similarly, although an "unbiased" science may be impossible, there are many mechanisms scientists can adopt for protecting their reasoning against undesirable forms of bias, e.g., choosing an appropriate method of statistical inference."[7]

The above quotes are from the conclusions (section 7) of an extremely well sourced page from the Stanford.edu website that purports to be a thorough analysis of the concept of scientific objectivity.

One key problem with this essay, is that it never clearly defines the critical terms (i.e. "science" and "objectivity"), but instead merely reports various (definitively subjective) opinions about what "science" and "objectivity" might mean and how they may or may not relate to one another.

But setting that aside, in their conclusions they admit that although they can make some tentative statements about what "scientific objectivity" is not, they are at a complete loss to say exactly what it is (with any positive assertions). This reminds me of the "god in the gaps"[9] argument and would seem to be an example of the "appeal to ignorance"[10] logical fallacy.

They go on to argue that even if "objectivity" is perhaps (probably) an unattainable goal, it is still better than the (presumably shocking or frightening, yet undefined) alternative (clearly an "affirming the consequent"[11] fallacy). I would imagine that scientists, of all categories of people in the world would understand the dangers of pursuing an amorphous concept that presumably lends unquestionable authority to their conclusions.

(7) Round 1 closing statement
Feel free to expand upon and/or challenge any of the arguments described above or add your own. I look forward to having a civil conversation regarding the topic at hand.

At a minimum you should know: This is a religion forum. That we also have a philosophy forum for your type of discussion.

Distinctions between objectivity and subjectivity lie at the heart of debates and conflicts in philosophy, morality, journalism, science, and more. Very often "objective" is treated as a vital goal while "subjective" is used as a criticism. Objective judgments are good; subjective judgments are arbitrary. Objective standards are good; subjective standards are corrupt.

Reality isn't so clean and neat: there are areas where objectivity is preferable, but other areas where subjectivity is better.

Objectivity, Subjectivity, and Philosophy
In philosophy, the distinction between objective and subjective normally refers to judgments and claims which people make. Objective judgments and claims are assumed to be free from personal considerations, emotional perspectives, etc. Subjective judgments and claims, however, are assumed to be heavily (if not entirely) influenced by such personal considerations.

How do you define "God"...
-->
@Tradesecret
Here you give your reasons for accepting the God of the Bible as a compromise after comparing the Bible with other religious scriptures.
But the God of the  Bible is portrayed differently  between the Old  Testament and New Testament. So a further compromised is required.
No. You are incorrect.  There is no compromise here whatsoever.  The reasons above are not ALL of my reasons for accepting the God of the Bible. It is not a comprehensive list.  They contain just some of my reasoning to explain that my reason for accepting God of the Bible as true is not limited only to the fact that the Bible itself declares it to be the case.
So you admit the Bible is not your main reasons for accepting the God of the Bible.
I also reject your notion that the God of the OT and the NT is portrayed differently.  In my view the God of the OT, namely the Trinity is the same as the God of the NT, namely the Trinity.  In the NT we are introduced more personally to one of the persons of the Trinity.   That is not a different God, it is simply focusing our attention on one particular member of the Godhead in a particular time.  In some ways this member is possibly revealed in the OT in forms - known as the pre-incarnate Christ.
The  God in the OT gave the 10 commandments, another 613 commandments in total. God punished the world with floods, plagues and confusion. God demanded animal and human sacrifices (Isaac). God made a covenant with the Jews as his chosen people and demanding circumcision.

The God in the NT is very different. God was more forgiving, sacrificed his only son Jesus to offer  salvation and switched from Jews to Gentiles. Circumcision was no longer necessary.

The Bible concludes with the crucifixion ofJesus who is worshipped as God. So a third compromise is needed.
You might need to articulate your argument a little more.  The Christian understanding of Jesus is that he is FULLY GOD and FULLY MAN. He did die on a cross and he was raised from the dead.  Yet God did not die. The Christ died. This was not a compromise. It was planned from before the beginning of the world. 1 Peter 2:19-20.  It was not a mistake. It was not an accident. It was not a plan B. It was the plan. and it was perfectly executed - pardon the pun.
In the Gospels Jesus used the term “Son of Man 102 times, the term “Son of God” was used 76 times { 65 times by Jesus }, Jesus proclaimed that God was his  father 54 times. There are 17 recorded instances of Jesus praying to God.
Jesus even lamented on the cross.
Matthew 27:46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

Jesus escaped stoning by the crowds several times. But Jesus was unprepared to face Pilate or the Roman court.

Finally Judaism which is the original source of the Abrahamic God rejects your conclusions in the New Testament. So another compromise is required.
How does Judaism rejecting the conclusions of the NT bring about a compromise?  Israel was prophesied to reject the messiah.  This is the reason why Israel lost its temple and lost its nationhood.  Historically, whenever Israel lost its temple and was invaded, it was due to it sin against God by idolatry, by evil, and by taking on false gods.  When this occurred - the covenant God put in place came into effect.  And Israel was devastated and became as nothing.  It was only after they were judged, and then repented, that eventually they came back to the land.
Jesus failed to save the Jews as he had promised.
Matthew 15:24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

It was Daniel that prophesied the killing of the Messiah, the destruction of Jerusalem and temple by the Romans.
Jesus quoted Daniel but was helpless to stop what he knew was going to happen to the very people he was sent to save.
Matthew 24:15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a]spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—
The question that the Jewish nation needs to ask itself, is what was the crime against God that was so heinous that it's temple was destroyed and its people scattered around the globe - without a place to call home for over 2000 years? If it wasn't the killing of the messiah, then what other event within that generation was so significant that God would judge the nation so harshly.
when the Jews saw Jesus allow the Romans to mock, beat and ridicule their messiah they rejected Jesus.

Jesus who was sent to save the Jews was himself in denial.
John 18:33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

The Jews demanded Jesus be crucified.
Luke 23:21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”

Why do you follow such a compromised version of God?
The answer is I don't.  As far as I can tell it is you who follows a compromised god. A god who would prefer its people starve rather than eat its cows and a god who would prefer its people to starve rather than destroy the vermin of rats that live in the wharves in Mumbai. That is where compromise is happening. Your god is a turd and one who cares more for itself than for people.  It is the one whose values are compromised.
What you just described is a very uncompromising god and religion who would prefer its people to starve rather than destroy the vermin of rats that live in the wharves in Mumbai. You must be pointing to Hinduism.

So you do as a Christian follow a compromised version of God?

Can you show us the legislation that states it is a criminal offence in Victoria Australia to ask a person about their gender. Considering that you are a criminal lawyer it shouldn't be too difficult.
This should be a good one.

Question:  do you think that the esteemed moderators of DEBATEART are joking around with us in letting the Bible dunderhead Shila be a part of this religion forum?  Or, are they allowing Shila to stay here to show what NOT to be like if you want to call yourself a Christian?  As we easily agree, as if ethang5 and Tradesecret weren't obtuse enough relative to the JUDEO-Christian Bible, then comes along Shila waving the flag of their Bible stupidity as well!
Shila is your best friend BrotherD.Thomas.

Argument for Polytheism over Monotheism via Polycentric Manifolds' being Fundamental
-->
@Sidewalker
The Christian Bible says “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28, Colossians 3:11).  The Jews were Monotheists and the Greeks were Polytheists, and yet, they were one according to the Christian Bible.

What does it mean that we are all one in Christ (Galatians 3:28)?
all one in Christ

Humanly speaking, Christians are a diverse lot. We come from every nation, tribe, and people group (Revelation 7:9). We speak different languages, possess a variety of skin tones, and reflect unique cultures and social classes. But for all who are members of Christ’s family, race, rank, and gender lose their significance: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28, ESV).

Every person comes to Jesus Christ the same way—by grace through faith and repentance from sin (Acts 16:30–31; Ephesians 2:8; 2 Peter 3:9; Mark 1:15). “Jew nor Greek” speaks of race, nationality, and ethnicity. “Slave nor free” refers to our rank, social class, or profession. And “male and female” indicates our gender. These distinctions lose their importance in the heavenly Father’s eyes. We are all one in Christ His Son.

The apostle Paul explained, “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:12–13, NLT). Our spiritual connection unites us into one faith and one family: “For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all” (Ephesians 4:4–6, NLT).

We are all one in Christ has wide-ranging implications. First, it calls for unity and harmony among brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. We are to walk in a manner worthy of our calling, like Jesus, showing humility, gentleness, patience, “bearing with one another in love,” and making “every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1–3).

We can embrace our differences, even celebrate them, as long as “above all” we clothe ourselves “with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:14, NLT; see also Ephesians 5:2). The unity of believers is emphasized in Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer as the Lord prays that “all be one, just as you and I are one . . . so that the world will believe you sent me. . . . May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me” (John 17:21–23). Relational unity in the church is the best witness to the reality of Jesus Christ and God to the world.

The unity Christ prayed for is not an organizational unity or a denominational unity but a spiritual unity based on faith in Christ and the glory of God within. “Christian harmony is not based on the externals of the flesh but the internals and eternals of the Spirit in the inner person. We must look beyond the elements of our first birth—race, color, abilities, etc.—and build our fellowship on the essentials of our new birth” (Warren Wiersbe, Be Transformed, Victor Books, 1989, p. 80).

Discrimination, prejudice, and racism have existed in every generation, but there is no room for such bias in God’s family. As Paul so eloquently stated, “For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us” (Ephesians 2:14, NLT). God made human beings—the entire human race—in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26–27). If we hate someone because of the color of his skin, are we not hating a part of God’s image?

Paul also said, “In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us” (Colossians 3:11, NLT). How can we hate or discriminate against someone if Christ our Savior lives in him? Every form of condescension, partiality, and intolerance based on race, rank, and gender must be repented of and nailed to the cross because we are all one in Jesus Christ.

Christians should be united in passion, plan, and purpose, just as the Father and Son are united in the same. Christians are all treasure-bearing earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7). Christians are all redeemed by the same blood; we are all going to the same heaven; we have a shared aspiration, a shared enemy, and a shared hope and joy.
