So if one example is evidence that an entire party is hypocritical and disgraceful, then Strom Thurmond alone proves that of both the Republican and the Democrat party. However, one example can't prove that, because that is textbook anecdotal evidence.
I did not say he was a Democrat in 1925, although that would be a reasonable supposition to make. I said he was a Democrat until 1964. That is factually correct.

If the Republicans were running decent, or even mediocre, candidates, I think they would flip 4 or 5 seats. But that would require getting rid of first-past-the-post in primaries, which favors candidates with no broad appeal but a very strong narrow appeal.

I will endeavor to do so. I was previously unaware of Thurmond's behavior (though not of his racism). I actually got my information that it was an affair from you when you said this.
Strom Thurman was another that easily comes to mind who had a secret child with a mistress.
When you said "mistress," I assumed that was an affair, since that is how the term is normally used. Evidently I was mistaken.

I disagree that those threads have no value. Yes, they are full of hyperbole and mudslinging. However, American politics is full of hyperbole and mudslinging. So while we should try to conduct ourselves responsibly and think critically rather than resort to kneejerk reactions, I think there is value in discussing such things.
On the other hand, I agree with you that there should also be more substantive topics. Though I find myself agreeing with RM that, if you don't like the current threads, starting your own is a good way to achieve that goal.

My guess is the Republicans take the house with 230+ seats and the senate with 52-53 seats. This will create political gridlock, which is my favorite type of political situation. I find the competition interesting. I'm not a fan of either team, so I'll have some popcorn ready and watch the fun!

The Party, the Republicans in Congress are doing everything they can to punish the Dreamers. The courts have not allowed them to do it. It’s not some random wack job, it’s the party leaders who speak for their caucus.
I believe you misinterpreted my meaning. The random whack jobs are the ones blaming the Dreamers for being here rather than their parents. Deporting the dreamers is a more common position, but not universal among Republicans.
They know it now but they still remain faithful to the Party, the Party that Domenici belonged to and other Republicans no doubt helped him cover up the scandal.
Perhaps they remain faithful to the party in spite of Domenici because they recognize that Domenici is one man out of tens of millions of Republicans? It is still anecdotal evidence.

Firstly, that's not remotely the same thing. Secondly, you paint with too broad a brush. Not all Republicans are in favor of penalizing and deporting dreamers, and most Republicans blame the parents, not the kids (and no, that one random whack job you may find who says otherwise does not speak for the entire party).

The list of Republican lawmakers caught with their dick in the cookie jar is extensive and long-lasting. Then these millions of Republicans vote for them in spite of their bad behavior. And these are the people who claim to be religious and defenders of family values. Herschel Walker is a current example of this hypocrisy of the Republican Party and voters.
For the sake of argument, I will grant that this is the case. Now, would you please answer a few questions?
1. How does voting for Laxalt, who has not had an affair, demonstrate hypocrisy on behalf of the voters?
2. How does voting for Domenici, whose affair was unknown until after he retired, demonstrate hypocrisy on behalf of the voters?

How so? Laxalt can't control the circumstances of his own birth. How is it hypocritical or disgraceful for people to vote for Laxalt? If his father was alive and running, then it would be hypocritical and disgraceful to vote for him. But Laxalt is not his father. So how is any of this relevant to him?

No one has ever beaten me. I have beaten Mall. Mall won against Novice. Novice won against oromagi. Oromagi won against RM. Between the 3 of them, Novice, oromagi, and RM have beaten at least half the users on the website. By the transitive property of debating, I am the best debater on the website.

Your rating is also catching up to him faster because of when he lost his debates versus when you lost yours. All three of oromagi's losses occurred after he passed 1900, which caused him to lose a lot of rating. You have two losses, one of which occurred early in your account history when your rating was lower. That loss was to oromagi, so you would have lost very few points due to the rating disparity. You have had one loss more recently, but have had about 15 debates finished since then.
This has nothing to do with who is a better debater, but it does impact the elo rating.

I haven't been following that controversy, so I have no input there. I don't think it will matter either way, though. Novice has ten debates in the voting period and is ahead in all of them. His rating is so high that it will probably take more than that to push him over the top, but I think he'll get there.
