Sports - What are they?

@Theweakeredge
As an addition to what I said about the surplus of one making up for a deficit in another in fighting. I think that's why former football players do really well in MMA when they first start because their athleticism is so developed, that their technique can be lacking and still dominate. But then when they start getting into harder matches where their competition is equally athletic and more technically developed, they start losing

Really the rulesets modify the technique. But like the size of a tennis court and the weight of the ball require a light, technical touch, rather than an aggressive one in most cases.

Judo was fundamentally changed by olympic rulesets. Judo used to have a really good ground game, but with the olympic rulesets scoring throws and not allowing ground fighting, olympic judo, and as a result almost all judo became a sport of pretty much just throws instead.

Yeah that's fine, but I'm no expert.

I would say the same three fundamentals apply to football too, and maybe tennis. Although the rules of the sport tip the balance in different directions

If you're looking for "essence." The three most important aspects in fighting are : technique, athleticism, and aggression. And a surplus in one can often make up for a deficiency in another

Well I'm a combat sports guy so that's what I'll speak to, and I can tell you that motivations are different for everyone.  Most people in a given MMA class are there for either self defense training, or to get in shape. The sport itself had motivations of creating a setting where martial arts "styles" could be putted against each other in a time where most people thought fighting was like the karate kid. I've heard that the Gracie clan set up Royce with easy fights in UFC1 to promote Gracie jiu-jitsu. And theres of course the monetary gain.

Well that's cool man.

Cuz I don't want to have to consider all that when reading the constitution. It'd be a lot easier to just edit out that confusing bit, or rewrite it more plainly.

The worldview of an Atheist
-->
@EtrnlVw
"What I mean is that the theory does not necessarily suppose materialism or atheism..."
The theory doesn't contain any fact that indicates anything other than materialistic causes. So it doesn't have to be an assumption if every fact indicates that material causes are driving the processes of evolution.

"Not so, it's an assumption."
It's simply the case that there isn't any indication that supernatural intervention is needed to describe the processes of evolution. That doesn't require assumption, as it's a statement of fact.

"'Nothing about what we know about the universe actually indicates there is a god.'

That's an opinion, I gave you the alternative interpretation."
God isn't an explanation of anything in the universe unless you can describe the mechanism by which he intervenes in whatever he intervenes in in the universe. Otherwise, there is no reason to assume a superfluous agent in otherwise accurate descriptions of reality.

"No, atheism is not a neutral position nor is it any more reasonable than a theistic interpretation. Atheism is an interpretation and one that requires a positive assertion. This is why I made the argument I made."
Nope, there are degrees of atheism. Some assert that there is no god and that they can prove it, but i don't align with them. I am simply relaying my thought process. Suppose I told you there was a magical elf that always stood behind you when you tried to look at him. Would you believe that without reservation,  or would you reserve belief in the elf until some fact indicates its possible?

"The very products of what the universe produces through processes is the demonstration, or better put interpretation. It's commonsense really, even though it's an interpretation because we know from our own observations that inanimate materials don't construct things on their accord. Bricks don't build houses, logs don't build cabins, metal and electrical components don't build automobiles ect ect...there is always a constructor of a construction, a builder for buildings, a producer for productions, a manufacturer for manufacturing ect ect.."
These inanimate objects listed do not possess the quality of being reproductive organisms. There are established mechanisms of evolution that describe how populations diversify. So why "interpret" agency onto otherwise material processes?

"You have to be aware of how evidence is defined and what constitutes evidence."
I define evidence as a body of facts that positively indicative of, or exclusively concordant with, one conclusion above all others.

"'How is the existence of intelligence and things created by intelligence evidence of a god?'

I'll let you think on that for a bit lol. "
The point is that it isn't. Every argument for god I have ever encountered has had critical flaws.

Evolutionary theory is a model that describes how life diversifies. That's not an "interpretation", that's just a description of reality.

"The moment you claim there is no need for 'supernatural intervention' you've injected your own opinion."
Actually my friend, that's simply a statement of fact. Nothing about what we know about the universe actually indicates there is a god. I argue that reserving belief in such things is more reasonable than belief without reservation. So atheism occurs naturally when one is being reasonable.

There has simply never been a demonstrated event of supernatural intervention, so why assume it's so?

"Materials, recipes and processes are associated with agency/intelligenc"
Recipes, yeah sure there is some association. But the materials and processes, these are things that occur naturally.

"I think if you look again, and consider that processes are associated with intelligence God becomes more and more necessary as an explanation for why anything occurs at all and why inanimate forces including energy acts as an intelligent operation. .Don't give me the old "God of the gaps" baloney either lol, the correlation is much more than guesswork, no one has to guess because there's strong indication. When you consider that mixed the abundant supply of spiritual observations we have a damn good shot at being correct."
Haha, then don't give ME that god of the gaps baloney either. The correlation is just a correlation, not causation. These spiritual observations, how are they evidence of a god?

You are reading intelligence into processes so you can draw the false analogy to god creating things intelligently. How is the existence of intelligence and things created by intelligence evidence of a god?

"Who is talking about magic? With respect magic is the only explanation for "nothing was there, and then for no reason, nothing decided to explode".  That is magic because unless there were principles of law in existence,  and something for the principles of law to interact or engage with then magic is the only explanation. We won't even get into the absolute impossibility of statistical nonsense that after the magic of something happening for nothing exploded for no reason that life on our planet came about   "
Well that's a horrible misrepresentation of cosmic origins lol. But again, you fail to explain why god is even relevant to the discussion of human origins.

" Yet for you or any atheist to say "I have not seen any evidence for the existence of God, so therefore I am an atheist" and yet purport it is because you have actually done your homework is well self deception."
This statement is problematic, because there is a lot of purported evidence, but no actual evidence. So when one such as myself looks, there is naught to be had. If one is being reasonable, then they reserve belief in a claim until it has something to substantiate it. Every piece of "evidence" that i have encountered has not actually been evidence. And i've spent countless hours wrestling with the major arguments and supposed evidences.

" I personally would wish that atheist's just admit that they make a choice because it helps them to fit in with their peers, or because they don't like the idea of a nasty monster god, or that they think it is part of the human travel to rid themselves of superstition."
Well my friend, where I grew up there was maybe 1 atheist per 1000 people. i mean an crushing minority. So all the pressure from my peers came when I started questioning the YEC beliefs i had been raised in. I didn't meet an outspoken atheist until i was 14. The point is that through the process of wanting to understand the world as it is, god becomes less and less necessary as an explanation for things.

"Failing to prove it to you - does not mean I have failed.  It only means that you do not understand logic and reasoning. "
No sir, you just simply failed. But that doesn't mean you can't try again.

"For anyone to come to the conclusion that there is no evidence for God's existence and ignore completely the origin of humanity is absurd"
There's nothing about the origin of humanity that requires magic as an explanation you Silly. God doesn't explain human origins, and fails as an explanation for anything else. So one can dive very little into the technical details of evolutionary theory to understand that supernatural intervention isn't required for human origins.

"the idea of no god is not related to origin of humanity. I think that has to be a nonsense."
You have failed to demonstrate this, rather instead baselessly asserting it to be nonsense.

The origin of humanity is separate from the question of if there's a god lol

I think the strongest argument for anarchism is.

1. Initiating force against someone who is not initiating force against you is unethical.
2. governments existence is based on the seizing of private property by force which is initiating force against someone who's not initiating force against the government the first place.
3. Therefore, government's existence is unethical

The wind blew down the tree.
It collapsed with a thud in front of me.
"Ouch!" Said it with a great big groan.
And there he laid in the street all alone.
"Please cut me up I'm in the way"
"I can't I lost my saw the other day"
"Well can you break my branches please?"
And so I got down on my knees
And snapped and pulled till I heard the wood,
"Muahaha you've been fooled."
I gasped, aghast, and horrified.
The tree was looking in my eyes.
And I never went to work that day,
Because here alone in the street I lay.

As an absurdist, i accept that we exist in a chaotic, purposeless, universe. As an existentialist however, I believe that we exist before we have a purpose, rather than the other way around. So the meaning in my life isn't written divinely in the stars, my path is my own to forge. It's an exciting idea to me.
