i could actually see an argument that trump committed no crimes
-->
@HistoryBuff
-->
@n8nrgim
but if he had the authority to take or keep the documents in the first place
he didn't. He took the documents after he lost the election. He did not have a right to take them.
Cite the law(s) that clearly articulate that a sitting US President doesn't have authoritative access to presidential records during his tenure. And acquiring them after losing the election, while still being the US President, isn't a legal argument. It's a subjective emotive one. Completely baseless.

then obstruction is trying to find something with no underlying basis to it.
also untrue. Even if he had the right to take them (which he didn't), once he was told he had to give them back (because he was no longer president and wasn't allowed to have them) then refusing to give them back was illegal.
Again, cite the law(s) that clearly articulate that a former US President has no legal authority to be in temporary possession of presidential records from his tenure in the White House.

 in my opinion, if someone like a president takes documents, it's a special circumstance, even if we dont like that he did it.
this is fair. And that is why he wasn't charged immediately. They spent like a year repeatedly asking him nicely to return the documents. He refused. He lied that he had them. He lied saying he had returned all of them. He hid them when they came to check if he still had them. They could have charged him right away after he took the documents. That all by itself was illegal. They didn't need to spend a year asking him nicely to do that. They did it because it was a special circumstance.
You're one to talk about lying. The FBI knew what documents he had and directed him to keep them under lock and key, which he did. The corrupt Biden DOJ and FBI merely bought time to manufacture a fake legal situation to be charged at a later date - conveniently around the next election.

 if the underlying act wasn't a crime, then the obstructing of the underlying act should't be a crime either.
this is a misunderstanding of the law. If you do something that isn't illegal, but then try to cover it up by doing things that are illegal, you still committed a crime. Take watergate for example. It was the coverup that sunk nixon.
LOL!!! Where did you matriculate to obtaining any degree in a legal field that would equip you with the knowledge to properly read, interpret and understand statutory law?

it's too hokey to say taking the documents should be a crime, even if it technically was.
you aren't really making sense. You understand it was illegal for him to take them. You understand it was illegal for him to refuse to give them back. You understand it was illegal for him to hide the documents. You understand it was illegal for him sign a legally binding documenting saying he had returned them all when he had not (his lawyer did this at his instruction). You understand it is illegal to attempt to destroy evidence of your crimes after it has been subpoenaed. You know he did all of these crimes, but you don't think he should be punished for it because he's "special"?
Prove it was illegal for a sitting president to maintain his own presidential records created during his tenure; especially when a federal court says otherwise in regard to the Presidential Records Act and your unsubstantiated opinion here.

i was watching the news and they had a bit on trump trying to sabatage the election process even outside of georgia.
trump and his team tried multiple ways to steal the election after he had lost. From trying to get state officials to mess with the results so that he won to trying to get state to send fake electors. Georgia is going to charge him for this in the next few weeks.
All subjective conjectural nonsense. Spurious legal theories =/= [a] crime where all the statutory elements are met in order to establish said crime.

-->
@n8nrgim
I could give ya the obstruction charge, at least if it's normal to charge people for obstruction when the underlying activity wasn't illegal. It does seem pretty serious and not right that he wouldn't comply and actively obscured them
from what I can see, all the charges against him are valid. It's possible some of them might be unsubstantiated, but so far it's looking like he committed ALOT of crimes in the tail end of his presidency and the aftermath.

All the charges against Trump are purely political. Faux legal theories =/= actual statutory crimes. The entire indictment recently let loose is nothing short of political and failed to lay out actual elements of any crime alleged. Notably everything Smith lays out are all protected under the 1st Amendment. There are no actual crimes established or proven within the indictment.

No, it only makes a vibration in the air, "sound" is an experiential quality, you need an ear and sentience to convert the vibration into the experience of sound.
Wrong. It does make a sound. Two different kinds, in fact. Sounds that can be heard and felt by the wildlife. The crack of the trunk breaking, and the thud of its weight slamming to the forest floor. If a trail cam is later reviewed the existence of that tree breaking and falling to the ground is realized as a past event with the sound of its breaking and hitting the forest floor heard and acknowledged by the one reviewing the footage.

The point of my citing that dictionary flew over your head.

The definition is/was of no importance. It’s the mere fact that a formally recognized dictionary has it as a part of the English lexicon precisely because it has been used “so much so” that it became recognized as a valid term worthy of being added to the dictionary. And like all serious people with a wide vocabulary, terms like libtard are used when and where apropos.

Plea deals are a normal everyday thing that happens in criminal proceedings. This does not address why anyone should care.
the ignorance of this statement is beyond belief.

Even Al Capone went to jail for tax evasion.

But if your name is “Biden,” you get your hand held and slow walked through everything straight into a sweetheart plea deal.

Thankfully the judge has some wits about her and put that obvious bullshit to pasture.

And then there is the next obvious fact:

Like everyone has said…two tiers of justice when it comes to democrats (Bidens, Clintons, Obamas, et al) and everyone else. That’s why anyone and everyone cares.

The mere fact that I (or anyone else for that matter) has to point out the fucking obvious to you just proved you’re an ignorant denialist of the fact based truths in which you don’t know, choose not to know, and purposely deny when thrown in your narcissistic face.

It’s absolutely pointless for anyone to engage with you. You simply do not listen. You simply won’t acknowledge facts. You always deny the truth when it doesn’t comport with your personal subjective opinions. And you’re always condescending to everyone when you do it. If that stick was any further up your ass you’d be spitting toothpicks.

@TheUnderdog
Juxtaposing "fiscal" with "autonomy" in regard to the "right to life" is completely illogical
Why?  Fiscal autonomy matters too.  If it didn’t, then I could force you to give all your money to the state.  It would also legalize theft.
The abortion debate/discussion regarding the “right to life” has nothing to do with ‘fiscal autonomy.’ The pregnancy has no financial value. It has no fiscal wealth, autonomously or otherwise. Neither does the pregnant girl/teen/adult female. The only issue at play is legal responsibility of the female to the pregnancy once birthed if she chooses to keep it.

A pregnancy has NO LEGAL RIGHTS!
This is positive analysis, not normal analysis.  The unborn right now in most states do not have rights.  But pro lifers argue they should.

That is FACTUAL analysis. And I do not care what “should,” when the only is “must”

Such bans/restrictions apply to the pregnant girl/woman, not the pregnancy.
The bans/restrictions apply to the pregnant woman because of the belief that the unborn deserves the right to not get murdered.
Murder doesn’t apply to a pregnancy. Never has. And as current laws, state and federal stand now, still doesn’t. One must be born FIRST to be protected from “murder.”

Pro-lifers argue, demand, and push for pregnant little girls and young women to give birth. Once they do give birth, pro-lifer's go dead silent. They have no responsibility or obligation to the birthed child.
Then the argument you would make is, “fiscal conservatives are selfish” (which is technically correct, but I just don’t see the issue with some forms of selfishness) not pro lifers.  A pro lifer that wears a mask in 2023, got vaccinated and boosted, wants vaccine mandates, wants to tax the rich more to save people’s lives, wants to ban all guns to save lives, spends all their money adopting children from Africa, wants universal healthcare, and is pro life for the whole life on all applicable issues would NOT be selfish according to your claim.
I don’t care what pro lifers argue because it’s entirely based in emotional outrage and zero logical/rationality let alone personal responsibility.

How is “THATS THE FUCKING POINT!” an insult?
I didn't say it was, that falls into the category of shouting and profanity. An example of an insult would be this:

No, HISTORICAL FACT!!!

Ignorant DENIALIST!!!

Wrong. As I explained to IWRA, that was a fact based observation of your lack of education/knowledge and denialism of the truth as presented to you.
Those are descriptive terms of said lack of education/knowledge and your observed denialism by not just myself, but others too.
Descriptives of another’s behavior, attitude, demeanor, lack of education/knowledge =/= insults (i.e., @ the person).
So once again, like IWRA, you’re wrong.

Ignorant denialist ≠ an ad hominem when that observation = truth
Then dummy does not = an ad hominem when that observation = truth
dummy
1 of 3noun
dum·my ˈdə-mē
c
a stupid person

Your truth =/= [the] truth.
You clearly do not comprehend the difference between a noun and an adjective. One is @ the person, the other describes the behavior, attitude, demeanor, knowledge(lack thereof) of another.

Dummy = noun.
Noun = @ the person
@ the person = an ad hominem fallacy

So no, you are flat out wrong.

And you were never reported for using the term “dummy,” dummy.
So either dummy is ok or TWS must be reprimanded.

Which is it going to be Barney?

To observe one’s uneducated position = ignorance.
To observe one’s denialism of the truth + denialism.

Ignorant denialist ≠ an ad hominem when that observation = truth

Your analogy of the Muslim school board is a false equivalency fallacy.

The historical fact remains that over the course of slavery in N. America, slaves did (and their offspring), in some instances, benefit from slavery that aided them in slavery and whence they became freemen (or born post slavery).
The Muslim school board is a nearly perfect analogy.

There's like 1 debate per like 3 days or smth. dead site ??!?!?!?!?!
FFS, people have lives you know.

In the rated (even unrated) debate side of this site, it takes time to devote to researching, typing, editing, proof reading, and then posting responses. It’s a two-way street in that regard for both pro and con. It takes time.

People have to be willing to devote time to official debates where it is easier to engage others in the FORUM section where there is no time restriction, or requirements to meet for soliciting votes to win a debate.

Your whiners just need to take a seat in the back of the bus and stop crying wolf (err, Rosa Parks…rather, Claudette Colvin) and just STFU!

I mean really, I am retired and I won’t engage others in an official debate unless it is a topic I am passionate about. I did that once, and screwed myself because I wanted to be Pro but I made myself Con and had to debate as Devil’s advocate. I think I did a pretty good job, and got feedback affirming such, but still lost as it I was a losing argument nonetheless.

Plus, I won’t engage anyone unless I feel they are worthy of the debate. I am not going to engage the likes of IWantRoseveltAgain or BestKorea because they have no interest in legit debate. None whatsoever.

Others here are too pompous to engage, like Double_R, for example. Their intellectual cowardice even precedes their condescension. Just a waste of time. But I still enjoy poking that bear in the forum section though.

Republicans are a disgrace because they are willing to kill children trying to come across the border.

Migrants, children included, dead under Democratic administration:

Democratic administration polices are a failure:

And then there is forced labor of migrants under this Democratic administration:

Last but not least, no one is killing anyone who are trying to ILLEGALLY cross the border. What they are doing is in violation of a sovereign nation’s laws…equivalent to “Swim at your own risK, no lifeguard on duty” sign. If you are committing a crime, you assume the risk. No one in this country is actively partaking in the “killing” of anyone illegally crossing the border as you fallaciously AND ignorantly assert.
