@Greyparrot
I would bet some countries wished the U.S. had been more isolationist rather than being invaded and or killed, funny people bitch about the conflicts the U.S. gets into, nation building etc but then turns around and bitches at people who think we should be more isolated, national.

I think his intent (and people like him) is clear, constantly erode rights (or try at the very least) and assert more government control over the citizens. In instances like this, what you don't hear is a public outcry for this type of censorship, this is all his doing, his desire.

the 1a, he would dictate what can and can't be said on facebook, but I doubt it would stop there.
I’ve been in the view that not only should we be worrying about the concentration of power, we should be worried about the lack of privacy and them being exempt, which you’re not exempt. [The Times] can’t write something you know to be false and be exempt from being sued. But he can. The idea that it’s a tech company is that Section 230 should be revoked, immediately should be revoked, number one. For Zuckerberg and other platforms.
Biden seems to be (again) confusing the 1st Amendment with Section 230. It's not Section 230 that allows people to post false things on Facebook. It's the 1st Amendment. You know, the thing that Biden is supposed to "protect and defend" if he becomes President.
All 230 does is put the liability in the right place: on the actual speaker. Facebook is not "exempt" from any law. Biden is just wrong.
(CNSNews.com) - Former Vice President Joe Biden wants to amend the U.S. Constitution to prohibit private individuals from using their own money to make a contribution to a federal election campaign or to fund their own federal campaign, according to a plan posted on Biden's campaign website.
The Biden amendment would need to curtail the First Amendment, which guarantees Americans “the freedom of speech.” In its 2010 decision in Citizens United v. the Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court affirmed that spending money on a political campaign is a constitutionally protected exercise of that right.

yeah I'm not going to sift through a bunch of links, if there are parts that you can quote from them that aren't just tds opinions, you know, actual facts I'd look at that.
Created:
-->
@ATroubledMan
nothing in the links gives any indication that he did or is doing a bad job, however else you worded it with covid it's just opinion, I didn't read any facts
when the travel restriction went into effect how many infected people were in the U.S.? How many deaths? I heard it was around 7 and no deaths, though we didn't have all the testing then but it was also just beginning. It seemed appropriate to implement the restriction based on what was known when it was known, some said it was too soon so it's still rather subjective.

@ATroubledMan
you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but if you have some facts I'd certainly read them.

Other pandemics were covered, but didn't affect anywhere near the amount of people or how quickly it spread. Perhaps, it also has to do with how fast information gets around the globe these days.
that could very well be, though I sure would like to see a retrospective on it since people do compare covid and flu
anyway many democrats are happy with the job Trump has done, many of whom never liked him at all, the time line speaks for itself which aligned directly or preceded recommendations or suggestions from W.H.O.
remember he was called racist etc all sorts of things for implementing the travel bans to China etc, many democrats said it wasn't needed etc I would suggest you go back and review the interviews of the democrats and reports when this started.
Created:
-->
@ATroubledMan
again, it seems inconsistent that previous pandemics where not covered nor treated the same with regards to information etc, it could make one think this is mostly political bs.
Created:

@ATroubledMan
I would agree we probably should have better information about the flu, but unfortunately, Trump fired lots of folks from the CDC and cut their funding.
the CDC is not responsible for getting and collecting disease stats from other countries, just the U.S. The media is totally free to get those stats and report them (if other countries collect and provide them) This is not something you can blame on Trump. If you'd like to place blame the W.H.O. is probably the best target.

@Greyparrot
2009 H1N1 Pandemic (H1N1pdm09 virus)
From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.
Where did the 2009 swine flu outbreak originate?
The 2009 swine flu outbreak originated in Veracruz, Mexico. Health workers traced the virus to a pig farm in this southeastern Mexican state.
did we close down the border? No? travel restrictions? No? half-blackman bad.
Created:

@ATroubledMan
do you find it a bit peculiar that the covid stats are quite readily available from other countries but the flu stats are not? I'm not even talking about the accuracy or any of that but just the fact that they don't seem to exist for the flu, sure the U.S. has them on the c.d.c. website but where is the country to country comparisons like we are seeing now? maybe the U.S. leads in flu deaths too, perhaps other disease states which could indicate a serious infection control issue. Don't you think that would be something we should know and deal with? So why don't we have these stats too?

@TheRealNihilist
vox, can't get anymore leftist than that I suppose
Joe Biden
former Vice President Joe Biden, a leading candidate for the presidency, wants to put limits on Facebook and revoke a federal law that the Electronic Frontier Foundation describes as “the most important law protecting free speech online.”
In a December interview published Jan. 17, Biden told The New York Times that Section 230 “should be revoked because (Facebook) is not merely an internet company. It is propagating falsehoods they know to be false.”
H.R. 1 is called the For the People Act but would be more aptly titled the Be Careful What You Say, It Might Be Illegal Act.
We really don't need to go into the 2a do we?
The (constant)overturning of laws, bans etc it really should be obvious.
it might be easier to list some unconstitutional laws by non democrats that have been overturned, I would imagine that is a much shorter list.

Tell me a single right that the left is supposedly taking away.
actually taking or would if they could? imo intent is what really matters, just because they currently can't doesn't mean they will stop trying. Plenty of mayor, governours and the like are being sued, recently, constantly because of unconstitutional laws.
If someone intends to do you harm I don't see a reason to not act until they actually do it, but that's just me.

"The US now has the world's highest number of deaths from Covid-19, with at least 21,692 losing their lives to the virus as of Sunday afternoon
how about flu deaths? where does the U.S. rank with those? oddly enough those stats aren't so easy to find.

bernie had his chance but didn't appeal to enough people, he wasn't mainstream enough.
you mean people don't want all the government he would have instituted?
I don't think it would have been possible for him to appeal to enough people, obviously.
given how Biden has treated people, voters, on camera, his inability to complete thoughts and sentences, the thought of him being president should be terrifying regardless of what you think of Trump.

I agree with you, however I would ask you to look beyond right now and into the future. As 3d printers get cheaper with stronger materials, then what?
while very expensive right now it won't be long before they drop in price and are geared more towards a home users.
We've probably discussed an 80% ar lower which doesn't need a serial number. You could potentially print a 100% ar lower with no serial number. Did you know you can make a gun for personal use and it doesn't need a serial number? You can't legally sell it but you can own and possess it.
is this the modern day Pandora's box?

even though I qualify, I don't like it, it's more debt and b.s. spending that the democrats put in the bill, more government waste at out expense. If we had or even had a hope of a balanced budget then maybe but the way things are now, this won't help imo but make our collective situations worse in the long run. If this money was coming from cuts of b.s. and waste, that would be better, but again all the extra stuff should NOT be allowed.

the cries for reforms so more can be legal blah blah blah which still does NOTHING for the ones still languishing in their shithole countries, the irony is lost on them. Regardless we are not the world's welfare, merit based immigration, period. That is what's fair to the legal citizens, especially to the poor and homeless citizens. The left likes to forget about them, but I don't.
Fair would be no homeless citizens, veterans etc. Well I could go on and on about what is "fair" which is why I laugh every time someone tries to use it, yup just another four letter f word.

it sounds like some kind of syndrome, this warped sense or need to take care of destitute people like they were pets, my guess it makes them feel needed, useful, important etc. otherwise wouldn't they demand their governments do better for their own citizens? It's a very small percentage of people who actually make it to the U.S. What about those still in the shithole countries they came from? No crumbs for them?
do they really want what's fair for illegals? Doesn't really seem like it based on the priorities they spew on the news. That is they don't care enough to fight to fix the root of the problem. The corrupt governments and cartels. Why do they keep turning their backs on all those women and children left behind to be killed and abused by these corrupt governments and cartels? Their priorities seem a bit.....off?

@dustryder
I'm sure more don't pay taxes than have a tax id
afaik they are not entitled to social security benefits and perhaps other tax payer funded entitlements (they shouldn't get any) If they want to be eligible for these they should be legal. Consider the taxes they pay a cost of doing business or the fee they pay to stay here illegally. If they want all the benefits of citizens or legal immigrants/workers then they should go through the process to be come one.
Created:
-->
@dustryder
Essentially the stimulus is given out to those with social security numbers, based on their filed tax returns. This excludes people with tax IDs who obviously still pay tax.
if I understand this correctly, they are in the country illegally but still get a tax id and the government should include the people here illegally, working illegally (because they are here illegally) taxpayer money from people who are here legally?
If things were "fair" wouldn't people here illegally be deported? They are breaking the law and should pay the consequences for doing so like the rest of us, that would be fair.
These exceptions specially made for illegals is not fair.
anyway I'd love to know how many and how they get an Individual Taxpayer ID Number
I'm not convinced they should get anything let alone a tax id.

@dustryder
I guess I don't understand what this "unequal treatment" is referring to. Admittedly I couldn't listen to her rant so I don't actually know what she said, I'd rather listen to scraping fingernails on a chalkboard.
What would have been fair (another 4 letter "f" word people shouldn't use btw) is payroll tax withholding cuts. If the withholding was lowered by 50% for people making between blah blah and blah blah blah that would be equitable.
Created:
-->
@dustryder
they pay sales tax, user tax, sure but that's a very small part compared to paycheck tax withholdings, which if they are illegal, afaik they can't have a social security # so they can't have taxes withheld or work legally.
IF (notice big if) the states/governor really cared (they don't) they would/could suspend sales tax, property tax and state income tax right? did she demand those things? I mean if it wasn't just political grandstanding she would have right?

I'm still being paid, not doing a dam thing for 8 hours, but they are fine keeping us coming in and sitting around, so I will.
Notice how the states haven't offered to cut state income tax, property taxes etc
Trump should have made them match to some degree, whatever the feds are/were going to do. Why it's 100% of the feds responsibility I don't know. But I think that is a HUGE mistake he made.

Biden said something to the effect that who ever it is must be able to run the country, which to me means he'd step down soon after winning or is planning a Hillary suicide. Seriously though, it sure seems the vp replacing Biden is a very real and strong possibility just based off of what he himself has said. Do you think she could fill that role?

I find it sad rather than something to laugh about, but that's just me I guess. People complain (occasionally) about the human rights abuses of the Chinese government and still give them power over themselves by being dependant on them. Does that seem logical to you?
who is really to blame, the one taking advantage or the one allowing to be taken advantage of, over and over.

@Dr.Franklin
being offended is a choice
choice #1 be offended
choice #2 don't be offended (don't care if you like)
it's up to the individual to choose.
as a side note there should be less people being offended with the overuse and misuse of terms like racist etc
your a @#$%%
(modern day response) meh.
Created:

@fauxlaw
right, we should thank them for making us see the stupidity in allowing all of those things imo, difficult to blame them really when we did it or allowed it to happen to ourselves. That's kind of how I see it. At what point and who decided we could trust China and be dependant on them with such important things? Almost smells of treason.
Created:
-->
@fauxlaw
hmmm I'm not sure about all of that, on the other hand we could owe them a debt of gratitude by showing our mistake for being so dependant on their drug manufacturing etc. If the U.S. wakes up and decides it would be better to be self sufficient instead of potential blackmail of things like antibiotics then we owe them a thank you.
learning hard or difficult lessons isn't pleasant at all, but if you learn from them and use them to your benefit then I think a thank you would be appropriate.
We've never been an overly proactive or forward thinking society, if that were true we would have had reinforced airplane cockpits and 9-11 probably wouldn't have happened. I believe Israel had been reinforcing theirs since the 70's but we needed to learn that lesson the hard way. This is kind of a similar situation imo.

@fauxlaw
And offence is a data construct that has been recognised to have value
could you clarify that?
fmpov being offended and what is offensive is often subjective and individualistic is it not?
I don't see it as it being recognised to have value but rather some arbitrary or subjective value the individual has assigned to it.
being offended is an emotional choice, how could it be considered anything more?

@KingArthur
right, which imo, while inconvenient is nothing to panic about, which is why I think we should focus on deaths and ventilations, that would be things to panic about, if one is so inclined to do so. So manufacturing has switched to produce ventilators based on some anticipated (not real) need. That's fine but it sure does seem of the positives a very small % need ventilators or any real hospitalization at this point.
Much of this is overlapped and murky at best, for instance people are tested for strep, flu and then covid if their symptoms merrit testing. If they have flu then that's that no need for covid testing which I think skews the stats in a very real way.
consider this, during the H1N1 season if you tested positive it was ASSUMED you had H1N1, they certainly would not and did not do the specific test to find out as the flu test will pick up 98%(ish) of the flu strains (specificity). Is the test they are doing now specifically for covid-19 or is it a coronavirus test? I have heard anything that specific. If it's a coronavirus test then some of those could be something other than covid-19, again skewing the stats.
Created:
Posted in:

@KingArthur
I think the proper way to measure (if there is such a way) is looking at the number of people actually put on vents, needing to be admitted to a hospital and deaths. Time will tell I think.
