Yeah, I haven’t seen Republicans scandalized by this at all. We never believed the “no pardon for Hunter” promise in the first place! Instead, we are pointing and chuckling, as “the heathen” do when a holier-than-thou minister is caught with a hooker.

Biden reportedly set to pardon his son.

@Shila
Try this on for size:

“Trump did say several times when asked that he would not pardon his son Donald, Jr. But when he found the case against Donald, Jr. turning out to be a sham he reversed his decision and pardoned Donald, Jr.”

@Double_R
It happened in front of the whole country at the debate.
So, no citation to support your exact claim. “Got it.”

the level of unimportance of an issue on one side vs the caricature of importance the other side prescribed to it.
You have a knack for making your personal opinion appear as a matter of objective truth. Time is better spent figuring out what IS important to voters rather than merely finding fault with what they think is important. If the DNC is unable or unwilling to improve upon your analysis, brace yourself for another GOP win in 2028.

One of the most basic rules of politics is that you do not say anything that will cause a needles firestorm.

That's really simple and it's nothing new. That's why for example candidates always say they're campaign is doing just fine and they're not going anywhere... And then "suspend" their campaigns the next day.

Funny thing is, everyone understands this. No one turns around and calls them liars because they wouldn't publicly admit what they knew they were going to do. This is politics 101.

So even assuming the worst, what Joe Biden did by saying he wasn't going to pardon Hunter isn't remarkable at all. Admitting it would have caused a firestorm so Biden followed the same rule everyone follows.

So… I am back to reiterating this:

“Like the current headlines? Seems as though he only succeeded in kicking that can down the road. Of course, the difference is that he is a lame duck president now.”

Good job on creating a hamster wheel (or merry-go-round) of a discussion…

As I saw it reported, he said he wouldn’t sign a ban, but he evaded answering whether he would veto such a ban. Either way, the effect is the same— no ban.

Cite?

No one is suggesting otherwise. Criticizing them for it is still perfectly valid.
You can criticize whomever you wish. I’m just saying you don’t get to decide what is important to people other than yourself.

If what I suggested was in fact that truth then the only reason it was effectively a can kick is because Trump not only won…
Ah, so if I understand your word salad correctly, Biden having lied in order to beat Trump constituted “a noble lie” in your opinion. Funny thing— it seems that only MSM believed the lie.

So not exactly a refutation.
Oh, of course not. I know as well as anyone here that the totality of your claims stand unrefuted.

I’m sure many voted for Harris because she at least claimed that abortion rights were central to her platform. Meanwhile, abortion has not been central to Trump’s platform, but he has stated clearly that he is against a federal abortion ban. But if one is a single issue voter on that, the choice would be pretty clear. Voters do not always vote according to the candidate’s main platform, nor should they. Voters vote according to what is most important to THEM, not according to what someone else thinks is most important.

Again, imagine the headlines if he even showed ambiguity about his intentions.
Like the current headlines? Seems as though he only succeeded in kicking that can down the road. Of course, the difference is that he is a lame duck president now.

But I'm not so sure he was lying about his intentions.
This wouldn’t be the only time.

Standards only apply to democrats.
Standards which demand lies in order to be satisfied are not that admirable.

so I don’t see what else he was even supposed to say.
You think Biden essentially had no choice but to lie about his intent?

So no, it doesn’t cut both ways.
Trump tends not to lie about his intent. “He is who he is.” This is why many of his supporters like to claim “promises made; promises kept.”

That was before Trump won the election and then nominated a man who *publicly* said he would use the Justice department to go after Trump’s political enemies to lead the FBI. So much for all that “Trump’s not really going to weaponize the DOJ” BS. If I were Joe I’m certainly not about to hand my son who’s already been put through the ringer to this DOJ.
Biden didn’t say, “It depends.” He said, “No pardon for Hunter.”

Second, no one who supports Trump has any ground to stand on when it comes to lying.
The above is what I call a “cuts both ways” claim:

“No one who supports [Biden] has any ground to stand on when it comes to lying.”

The irony here is that many, including myself, believe Trump would have said, “Sure, I’ll pardon my son if it comes down to it. What father wouldn’t?”

That doesn't counter anything unless you thought my position was that I agreed with them on everything.
Oh, I thought you were claiming that Harris has virtually no connection to stances you find stupid.

Yes, that was exactly my point, but it went further than that. Not only did they hold her responsible, but they pretended these issues were central to her campaign and therefore representative of what her priorities would have been as president. That's where it gets ridiculous.
As ridiculous as you may find it, this is neither unusual nor unique to Harris’ candidacy. Voters regularly feel strongly about issues that aren’t central to a candidate’s campaign and vote accordingly.

I actually don’t have a huge problem with him pardoning his son. The issue is how adamantly he said he wouldn’t pardon his son if found guilty.

My point is to counter your assessment here:

In other words her positions on [insert niche issues here] weren't clear and certainly weren't priorities she felt the need to address, but because someone on the left did or said something crazy it made sense for people to saddle her with it and then vote against her for it
I take this to mean: “Because Harris had unclear positions on certain issues, voters held her responsible for what other people on the left had to say on those issues.”

Harris was pro ceasefire pretty soon after Israel retaliated. A ceasefire would benefit Israel’s enemies but not Israel. But no way would she go so far as to honor the goals of the BDS movement. Biden/Harris have tried to keep a foot in both sides of that war (i.e. speaking out of both sides of their mouths). That just succeeds in pissing everyone off. That means she… sort of supports, doesn’t decidedly oppose a stance which you believe to be stupid.

Biden/Harris altered Title 9 to address people by gender identity instead of biological sex. That means she supports a stance which you believe to be stupid.

Harris assisted in bailing out people arrested during the BLM protests/riots, made an advertisement endorsing racial equity (as opposed to equality), basically accused Biden in 2020 of being racist in a certain legislative decision, and announced that fraudster Smollette was a victim of a “modern day lynching.” That means she supports a stance which you believe to be stupid.

every stupid thing anyone on the left has ever done regardless of whether the candidate herself bought into any of it or whether the issue at hand even has anything at all to do with politics.

Elections are a popularity contest for the candidates, not an economics and civics exam for the voters. Much or maybe even most of the electorate are ignorant and always have been. That’s one of the problems with democracy. At least this fact both afflicts and benefits both parties.

Here’s a decent video on the president’s influence over the economy. Nothing really groundbreaking in it, although it does bring up the idea of perception influencing behavior which then influences the economy:

DOJ orders a breakup of Google
At the beginning of the year, the DOJ blocked the acquisition of Spirit Airlines by JetBlue, resulting in the current bankruptcy announcement from Spirit. Now, the DOJ is ordering that Google spin off its Chrome browser into a separate company, which is also not a value add for anyone. This DOJ is OTL (out to lunch). Time to… “Turn the page!”
