But flame wars always come from imabench or me right?

The only reason you aren't banned already is because everyone knows your condition. You said you wanted to learn from past mistakes. Here is your chance.

But I do think there will always be dislike, that it will always create tension, and that there will always be people who perceive offense and retaliate.
But that is why we have mods.

Understand this. I don't mind some heated exchanges here and there. I'm talking specifically about behavior that mucks up the smooth functioning of the board.

Calling someone an idiot because they advanced a really silly idea is one thing, but "hating" the religion board and making little snide remarks about posters to that board is another thing.

Posting that you don't think God exists and your reasons why you think so is one thing, shouting "God does not exist!" To every poster in the religion forum and insulting him is another matter.

Posting that you think some political or religious POV is illogical is one thing, 20+ posts in less than 6 hours to one forum by one person is spam.

There is a reason bench was banned multiple times. And there is a reason he braggs about it now. We have to know the difference between the two types of behavior. Moderate the heated exchanges, but cut out the behavior that impede the functioning of the board as a whole.

It slows activity, and slow activity causes posters to leave. Low poster count will cause the site to die. I don't want that.

The idiot first posted to me, with an insult.

Was that here?
Yes. But this is a biased question. On another thread he could post to me first but I am at fault if I post to him first here? I reject such partisan nonsense.

I didnt see that in this thread 🤔.
Of course you didn't. If you did, you'd be objective.

Initiation of conflict isnt usually, if ever, counted all the way back to what originally started the harassing behavior. Insults arent a violation of ToS, harassment is.
I have never been banned from any site, and I've been online since 1993. How many times has your troll maiden you're saving been banned? Don't answer. Watch. His history has shown he doesn't care about being banned and he has poor self control. He will repeat his history here. His confusion is in thinking he's still at DDO where AirMax will coddle his trolling. Keep watching.

Like I said, if you limit it to a jab here or there, ur fine. Bench may very well have started this all originally, thats irrelevant to who is the one primarily continuing that original conflict in other threads independent of the one where the original insult was made
You don't know who is continuing it. You are assuming because you are biased. No worries. The people with the decision will not be a part of his clique.

I'm not even white knighting here,...
OK then, you won't be adverse to a little objectivity.

Im trying to give you genuine advice here, its up to you whether or not you decide to see the merit of it
Your intent may be good, but your advice certainly isn't. Good advice needs objectivity.

The troll picked me. More than once. Now he has me. He can appeal to his "ladies and gentlemen", his clique, or to whomever he thinks will white knight him. He's going to get treated like the troll he is.

You can continue under the delusion that anyone needs you to accept or validate their evidence. You can't "dismiss" my evidence. When did I ever request your validation?

But I do note that people who believe as you do are fringe. There is a reason for that. No declaration on your part will invalidate my evidence or give logical credibility to your assumptions.

-->@castin
I don't think we need to be so pessimistic. People coming here will see our ethos and quickly adjust. Those that won't or can't will face board moderation. I see no reason we have to accept poor behavior just because it's what many people do.

Thick skins are good, but the boards first level of protection of its members should not be for them to develop a thick skin. But you are an excellent role model for good forum behavior, though I wish you were a bit less cynical.

The Solution To Poverty?
What if every American was given a one million dollar account? Not cash, but on paper. They could use this account as they would cash. Transactions were recorded digitally.

What exactly would be the economic reasons this would not work? The only thing I can think of is paying for imports with other currencies than dollars.

Would this not be a solution to poverty?

However, when it comes to the subject of god, this standard of evidence cannot be met.
Why? Thousand upon thousands come to accept God every year. How do you decide what is evidence for other people?

You seem to ignore all the evidence around you and insist your perception is true for everyone else. Why?

We can focus on the things(painter/painting), or the ideas.

For example, once we decide on what is a painting, we can immediately get bogged down "on what is a painter?" Must he be human? Sentient? Deliberate?

The idea behind the simple statement is that paint placed on a surface in such a way that elicits ideas of the real world in viewers implies a deliberate act by a conscious person.

Questions about the definition of a painting are retreats to semantics. I visited MOMA in 2012 and nowhere did they have or need a definition of a painting.

The statement is referring to the relationship between a painter and a painting, not the painting or painter themselves. This relationship transcends the physical things, so that it works for mother/child, design/designer, creation/creator, or even more abstract relationships as, sound/sound maker.

To debate what constitutes a sound when you hear footsteps at 3 am in a house in which you're supposed to be alone, is to miss the implication completely.

I don't know if you and the troll are a tag team or you actually think you're white knighting, and I really don't care.

The idiot first posted to me, with an insult. Since then, his every post to me has been childish insults, repeating that I (and others) "follow" him around, as if the board is his, and a "that's just Ethan" for you, under the delusion that he's still at DDO.

He's used to his protected site surrounded by his clique, taking shots at lemmings who wanted to be part of the "in" crowd. He's never met someone like me.

What ever baggage he brought with him that made him decide to pick on me, he will follow it through. So we will see if the Gentle Readers are as stupid as he seems to think they are, or if they will see through his tired ploy.

Pure political rationalization.

There is no political TV in America. TV is social. American popular media takes a left of center position as its default.

Left and right can be defined relatively, or can be defined absolutely. Defined relatively, abortion on demand could one day be the conservative position.

There's really no left TV in America.

Really?

A visitor to Earth, from our TV would greatly over-estimate the percentage of homosexuals and transgenders in our societies. They would think everyone is consumed with environmental and racial issues. They would think political correctness was the norm and that Trump was universally unpopular, especially among music and movie stars.

Other than those things, there really is no left TV in America.

I arguably had the most activity around my name.
This is incorrect
No. It is correct. Even this thread is an example.

In fact, people who did not use the religion forum on DDO have no knowledge of who you are.
That does not change the truth of what I said. Activity flourished where I posted. How many know who I am is not the point.

You were an irrelevant member there, and are an irrelevant member here.
I don't care for "relevance" here, or what you consider relevance. And I doubt many others do. The point here is behaviors that inhibit the growth of this board.

I see no need to hand out labels like "irrelevant" to our fellow members and human beings.
Other than petty emotionalism, there isn't any.

as someone who has had long conversations with Ethang on DDO I can attest that this won't offend him,
Because things like that are not worth being bothered about. But I would be bothered if this site doesn't succeed.

...and it's also accurate.
It is telling that a person could think their opinion of another persons "relevance" was worth posting or that it coincided with reality. Ethan could not care less what you think of him, he does care though about activity stifling behavior on the board. He is willing to bet that the owner of the board shares that care.

I would note that users like Castin, who continually try to moderate the posts of other users, are detrimental to the site.
Not only is Castin relevant in ways you can never comprehend, she is not activity poison. Her hang-out on DDO, was the most active board, and lasted the longest on the forum.

There is a reason why your hangout was dying long before the spammers finally killed you, and why you felt the need to change your name here.

Srsly, why are people here so intensely committed to personal bitterness.
Being themselves. They killed DDO with their pettiness, and have set themselves to do it here too. This is what they think a debate site should be, crass, vitriolic, militant, a personal arena for their drama. Such behavior will kill this site, and they will simply move to the next site, rinse and repeat.

We can take the warning, or let the militant naysayers immobilize us. With no decision from us, the decision will be made for us. He/she who has ears, let them hear.

Should I show people your post history on ddo?
Sure. I arguably had the most activity around my name. Your judgement of what is offensive is suspect. Some people here are thread killers. They enter a thread and activity dies.

I agree DA needs to build itself up and not act like a extension of DDO.
Words of wisdom right now, especially for the politics board.

But hitting turbulence doesn't mean the plane is going down.
The slowdown in activity is a symptom. An average no-response time of more than two hours for an entire board is worthy of attention.

In a new forum it's not unusual to see a brief initial period of anarchy.
I come from DDO. Dart has not yet seen arnarchy. I'm talking about activity stifling behavior, not anarchy. It will silently kill the forum.

I disagree with creating threads to call people out. But if you're going to do it, then do it.
This is not a call out thread, you miss the point if you think it is. Ethan is not "pass-aggressive". Not everything boils down to a me against you metric.

If you don't have the conviction or internal fortitude to actually identify the problem by name, then you really aren't in a position to criticize other people for not dealing with it.
The three problems were listed and identified. And no criticism was meant. This is a warning, not against people, but against behaviors. I have no interest in individuals, just behaviors.

This site has been in existence for maybe 3-4 weeks tops and your complaining about lack of activity?
Warning about the change in activity. There is a difference between a complaint and constructive criticism.

If anything the peace and quiet should be welcomed.....
Dart is not DDO. We should not accept forum killing behavior because another thread is bad. No one comes to a debate board for "peace and quiet".

Thats Ethang for you.... Never has any good ideas, and then still manages to find a way to screw it up.
Exhibit A

I know he brought you up first,

If you don't have the conviction or internal fortitude to actually identify the problem by name,
Can both these be right? I either named people or I did not. Which is it?

At least he is using the same user name and not hiding who he was at DDO.
People hide who have something to hide. This isn't a smear. It isn't a call-out, it isn't a request to ban anyone. It is a warning meant to be timely.

Responding to a post like this with antagonism and acrimony only highlights what the post is talking about.

Now, do we want to fight it out here, or do we want to address the issues as one board and find solutions acceptable to all?

I Told You So
Sorry to have to say it, but I did tell you so.

Dart has many more members now, but less activity. Why?

1. Ubiquity
One member is every where. Post a debate and he is likely to take you up. Post a thread and he is likely to respond. Members here want to interact with people, not just one loony guy. Though he has not done anything specifically wrong, his ubiquity discourages activity on the board. And that is now showing.

2. Obsession.
One member with a "God does not exist" obsession derails every thread in the religion board. His reply to any topic is, "God does not exist". What if people want to discuss God? Is not the religion board for that purpose? This attitude is repeated on other boards with people obsessed with other subjects, like Trump haters on politics board, evolution deniers on the science board, etc. Obsessions discourage activity on the board. And that is now showing.

3. Militancy
Members whose first post to an innocuous comments are filled with bile and vitriol. Members are at a loss on how to respond to a first post with anger and insult that is frankly inexplicable. There are people on the politics board for example, who seem to think they own the board, and will lash out in ad-hom at anything that personally offends them. Militancy discourage activity on the board. And that is now showing.

4. Naysayers
Any path suggested. Any path whatsoever, is immediately opposed by the naysayers. Mods or owners who will not lead will leave the board in paralysis as the naysayers play tug-of-war. And when the mod or owner makes a decision, he will be accused of being an authoritarian. This will happen.

At some point, (possibly already past) hard decisions will have to be made. An old established board could possibly absorb such infectious personalities. But a new board cannot. It must be protected till it is strong enough to accommodate these things.

We have the history of countless boards before us. Let's not make the same mistakes again.

@ravensjt
Hey Raven,

(See my example in post #13)
Saw it. The Till story was a gripping one

Do you believe that God sometimes uses "evil" for a divine purpose?:

Sure. It says in Genesis 50:20 -
“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive

Selling Joseph into slavery was evil, but it resulted in the hebrew children being saved from famine.

Did God use evil to create ultimate good?
He has many times.

Did the Devil unintentionally create good?
Yes. Like when thinking he could lock Jesus in death, and Jesus, the shining hero, pulled a rope-a-dope on him.

Did God use the Devil to create good?
Yes. Which is why the bible tells us Satan is angry.

I'm interested in your ideas on God and "evil"
Because of Satan, the god of this world, we tend to think that good is weak and evil is strong. In movies, good wins only by accident. Evil can win on its own steam.

But this is not true. Evil is never a match against good. Good is brave and powerful. Evil is cowardly and weak. Pop culture tries to make it seem otherwise, but it just isn't true.

Throughout history, simple "weak" people like Dr. Wilberforce, MLK, and Nelson Mandela stood up against powerful evil and brought it crashing down.

God assures us that Good will triumph.
