Feds Not Welcome, But Fed Money Is?

@Athias
Thank you. I believe I can rest my case.

What case?
The one where you show how cynicism has wrecked your thinking.

And the subject of this discussion is how "cynical" my thinking is?
Since I saw that your cynicism has made you incapable of rationally contributing to this discussion, yes.

I thought it was about what the president ought to have done during this "panic," particularly his response to sanctuary governors, and the hypothetical situation where you were president.
Actually, it was about how hypocritical they were to want federal help but reject federal law. You decided that Trumps response was politics and responded that way.

Your allegation of "cynicism" is nothing more than a tone argument, which is an inept derailment tactic.
Derailment from what? You are intelligent Athias, when a person says, for example, that marriage is prostitution, what more is there to say? You seem to believe simply saying something is a "tone" argument, or what ever designation you slap onto a discussion, makes it so. You are very intelligent, but you may be autistic.

You will supply the explanation, showing the relevance. Observe.

Exactly: I had to supply the explanation.
Which is why I didn't need to.

But you have yet to demonstrate its relevance.
Well, considering you said The analogy had very little explanation or relevance, this is progress.

It is the same cynicism that informs your opinion of what motivates my suggestion of what Trump should do, and what motivates people to marry. You are not emotionally able to rationally discuss this.

I entertained the point in order to express my perspective of legal marriage--in retrospect, that was a mistake on my part.
How was it a mistake? Do you think my analogy of people who see marriage as being prostitution was a guess?

Not everything is win or lose. I respect your opinion and support your right to both have it and express it.

But if you look at a young couple in love, willing to sacrifice for each other, build a family together, and share the joys of life, and your take is that marriage is very much like prostitution in that each party is leveraging the other in order secure resources under a binding commercial contract, there is not much I can say to you.

Go in peace young man. You have done no wrong.

You say this like its some kind of joke.
Me?? No, I leave the jokes to the experts.

Are you not concerned with everyone being BANNED from church this week, and that the good lord will not get group sung at.
*The church building is not the church
*People can sing to His Omnipotent Majesty from any location.
So, no, I'm not concerned in the least.

I don't know what happens if we don't group sing at him.
We who? Certainly you aren't part of that "we" singing to God.

Do you know what happens if we dont sing to him?
Sure. You just continue being dead in your sins as you've always been. Same as happens if you DO sing to Him.

What he might do?
My guess is He might listen instead to the songs of praise of those whose names are written in the Lambs book of life.

We are risking this.
Pretty low risk.

Im  sure we are in for 40 days and nights of something.
Probably something like being ignored. But you guys can always come to the religion board and whore after attention.

Maybe a plague of butterflies. Who knows.
I bet your delusion knows.

I'd wank also.
I wonder why mental illness is so often tied up with sexual perversion?

So laugh away twang.
Hee, hee!!! Thanks, that was refreshing.

3.2 billion years ago was about 3.2 billion years before mankind came up with the Christian god concept.
And yet, 6,000+ years ago, the bible already knew what science is just now discovering.

...darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The evolutionary development of our planet would have been how it occurred....No god required.
The topic is that God knew, not that godidit jasper. Stay focused.

So while you try to run away from the verses showing that the bible knew what science is only just now discovering, the verses remain.

Here are a few facts on which the bible confirms science....

*The Earth has more than enough water to cover every peak.
*The first plants did not have chlorophyll and did not need sunlight.
*The early Earth was covered in water.
*It did not rain on Earth for a long time after the atmosphere developed.
*There was only one continent when land first formed.
*Life first formed in the oceans.
*There is huge amounts of water inside the Earth.

Can the people advancing the claim that Christianity "borrowed" these ideas, show any of these ideas in pre-biblical stories?

When science discovers, for example, that the Earth has water in the mantle, do these people call that plagiarism? Is the fact that plants first grew without sunlight plagiarism when science says so? The bible said it first.

I bet you jasper thinks its plagiarism ONLY in the case of the bible. Go figure.

God could of been anything before a holy book.
When did God become a holy book?

But then, if God became a book, one would expect that book to be holy no? And I bet such a book would have songs in it.

Probably a better question is, why would God become a book?

@OntologicalSpider
If it is both simultaneously true that radioactive isotopes decay without a cause, and we cannot apply the law of physics to the early universe, then there is no reason to apply the facts about radioactive isotopes as being relevant to this discussion in regards to causality and the early universe. Whatever models we have of physics or causality, or lack thereof will not be relevant based on this reasoning, because they, according to you, break down. This sword cuts both ways...
This was one of the most insightful and concise points I've ever seen a poster make! It was beautiful.

Your analogy had little relevance, much less an explanation.
You will supply the explanation, showing the relevance. Observe.

But yes, marriage under common law (legal marriage) is very much like prostitution in that each party is leveraging the other in order secure resources under a binding commercial contract. I do not argue against long-term relationships, or marriage in and of itself, but the State's incarnation of "marriage" is akin to that of a pimp, and those who participate are their hos.

@RoderickSpode
Gen 1:2 - And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

In a recent news release from the University of Colorado Boulder, researchers claimed to have found evidence suggesting the earth was once a “water world.” They were working in the Panorama district in Northwestern Australia’s outback and had been on the hunt for exposed “ancient” oceanic crust. An outcrop of supposedly 3.2-billion-year-old oceanic crust occurs in this area and was the focus of the research.

Modern seawater has an isotope ratio of 18O to 16O, which generally has slightly more 16O, and it is presumed that this is due to continental clay-rich soils being able to take up more 18O from the oceans. When they collected, examined, and performed analyses from the Panorama district’s outcrop’s rock samples, they discovered that the 18O isotope ratio was a tiny bit higher in 18O. The researchers concluded that this small swing in isotopic ratios was due to the absence of continents. In other words, they believed that this study showed the earth of 3.2 billion years ago was completely covered by water.

I feel another laughing point of the skeptic about to drown. Oops!

@Alec
People don't always ignore the UN.
No one said people did.

Africa has 4x the population as the US yet has 14x the annual abortions,...
Africa is 55 separate, different countries each with its own culture, language and laws. How is abortion in their countries your business?

I want abortion banned in the US, but mandatory vasectomies would gradually have less people have connections to abortions and therefore would gradually increase the pro life position since less people would have relations to abortions.
So would murder.

People are never happy being forced.

Apply this logic to childbearing and you would be consistent.
I do apply it, when the woman is being forced, not when she voluntarily has unprotected sex and then wants to kill the baby and claim someone forced her.

I would say that forcing a pregnant women to be pregnant for 9 months is more invasive than vasectomies.
If the women were forced, I'd say so too. They aren't forced, no more than falling is "forced" on you after you voluntarily step off the empire state building.

If you are fine with banning abortions to prevent them from happening, the same logic can be applied to mandatory vasectomies.
The same "logic" can be applied to murder.

Which is why murder is banned, what's your point here?
That murder would also stop abortions from happening.

Also, the woman didn't ask for pregnancy when she had sex anymore than someone playing Russian Roulette asks for death.
Lol. Liberal logic. I need say nothing here.

You have no right to force anyone no matter how much you love your dogma.

Apply this logic to child bearing against the mother's will and you'd be more consistent.
No, I would be dishonest and stupid to say that a woman getting pregnant after voluntary unprotected sex was "forced". I am consistent, I'm just not stupid.

No one is getting killed with my idea, so comparing the ideology to Natisizm is inaccurate.
Your idea is nazi-like because it is undemocratic and tramples the rights of people.

So let me get this straight; your pro choice for women of other countries yet pro life for Americans. Why exactly is that?
Your poor reading comprehension perhaps? I'm not anything for any woman outside my country. It isn't my business. But I am American, and as such, I get a say on American issues, like any citizen.

  It doesn't make any sense.
It makes perfect sense if you aren't a latent and unconscious imperialist.

I can safely say that I don't like the idea of the federal government handing out checks willy-nilly.
I agree, whether I can "safely" say it is another matter.

I don't much care who is writing the checks because I form my political positions based on whether I like a certain idea rather than whether I like the person proposing the idea.
Long arms make self-back patting easy.

I wonder if Ethan can say the same.
He can, but since that is already obvious, he doesn't have to.

He was saying he disliked government handouts a few months ago, I am curious whether he can demonstrate any consistency of thought by continuing to do so now that it is a politician with a red tie writing the checks.
How have you interpreted this post as me advocating govt. handouts?? I said nothing about my position on the issue, I was noting the disconnect between governors and states rejecting federal officers but accepting federal money.

That seems inconsistent to me. President Trump, the head fedinista, you say is not welcome in your state, and you instruct your state officials not to cooperate with federal officials (breaking the law in doing so) but you run to the feds for money as soon as a crisis hits your state?

I have not said whether I personally like or dislike the handout, I'm only saying it is hypocritical for states, governors, and sanctuary cities to want it.

The majority of people who like Trump, like him because of his policies, not because of the color of his tie. That is reserved for the lemmings in blue.

And what of non-voters, and those who voted against these governors? Does the current situation make the same discrimination as you do?
Is there a moral law that says I should make the same discrimination as it does? That is life, we are all affected by the majority and by chance.

That is not a solution--neither a long-term nor short-term one. It's a reaction that exploits a panic.
It is a disincentive to unpatriotic behavior. It teaches that negative behavior will bring about negative consequences. Your view here is very cynical, akin to calling marriage, prostitution. You think it's to exploit panic, but that is because to you, everything is politics. It's to clearly demonstrate the connection between their behavior and the consequence.

Should he seek their kowtow/obeisance or their cooperation?
Why should he seek either? He already has their cooperation, as they have come running to him with their palms outstreatched. And he is president, with authority over the federal government, he doesn't need them to kowtow.

I disagree. It makes for a petty president--not that Trump isn't petty.
Yes, I notice that even though Trump is behaving opposite to a way you are calling petty, you still call call him petty.

There are times to flex, and there are times to dust off your shoulders. This isn't the time for the former.
I disagree. For this would not be just flexing or posturing. It is much more important than that. All civilisations so far have declined and died. This is one of the reasons why.

The members get fat and privileged, used to being immune from the consequence of their self destructive behavior. And the civilisation crumbles, from the inside out, from people who mistake selfishness for freedom.

...rising above the petty political jargon of governors is what makes a good leader,
That's just it. What those governors did was not petty political jargon. It struck at the heart of our national identity. Federal and state authority is a emotive issue, we fought a civil war over it. Those governors are traitors.

not taking the worst possible time to make a political point.
It is in fact the best possible time to make that point, and it isn't only a political point, it is much more.

Not everything is political, nor should everything be boiled down to just politics.

I think it is better sometimes to look at the long term larger picture.

Governors saying a president is not welcome and sanctuary cities degrade cohesion and national unity. It makes a country weaker and less able to meet challenges. Telling them "no" would  also show that there are real world consequences to voters for electing morons.

Of course I would not withhold federal funds so that people die, but I would make those Governors rethink the value of federal officers, and certainly knock them down a peg or two off their self-righteous high horse.

In my estimation, that would make for an excellent president, and a stronger nation.

Earlier in his presidency, the people of New York and California said Trump was not welcome in their states. Their governors instructed state officers not to cooperate with federal officials.

But now we find that they welcome federal money to fight the Covid 19 virus. Federal money is fine but federal officials aren't?

If I were President Trump, I would send no federal resources to those states, or to cities calling themselves sanctuary cities. If the chief executive of the federal government is not welcome in your state, why should federal officers be there?

Childish hypocrites, the lot of them. And none of them will notice that Trump has not thrown it back in their faces.

You seem not to understand. Some stories are literal, and some are figurative. Both of those stories carry a message.
I am not advocating taking all stories as figurative. I am saying that often times, whether the story is literal or figurative is only of secondary importance.

For example, observe what Jesus said in
Jhn 14:10 - Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Jhn 14:11 - Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

Believing Jesus for the very works' sake was acceptable if one could not believe that He was in the Father, and the Father in him:

We need to be careful not to become legalists. People come to belief in Jesus in stages, not all at once. It is more important for a person to understand why Jesus had to die, and what that death is supposed to mean, than to believe His resurrection was literal.

Those sincerely searching for God will be lead by the Holy Spirit to the truth.

For the most part, atheists.

That's if I can interrupt your cosy little back scratching threesome.
Am I correct in assuming that you are voluntarily an atheist? If so, why the jealousy? You are the only one keeping yourself out of our cosy little back scratching threesome.

What would a religious debate be without both the theist and the atheist
It would be without the boorish idiot who knows nothing about Christian doctrine derailing every thread with a knee-jerk to the "god does not exist" debate regardless of the topic.

There's not so much fun in mutual self gratification....You would soon get bored.
But you must make up your minds atheists. On the one hand, you drone on and on about 33,000 denominations and how Christians all have different interpretations, then on the other hand, you say our talking together would be just mutual gratification. The both can't be true.

If theists got bored talking to each other, we'd already be on an atheist website. But you came here, showing it is really you atheists who get bored talking to each other.

And amidst all your pious aggression and stress you forgot the K in "nobheads" .....Knobhead!

Nobhead
noun \ˈnäb-ed\

Definition: An irritating person who is oblivious to how they are perceived.

Origins: Someone so abrasive and unaware of their surroundings, a penis could be drawn on their forehead without them realising or being told about it.

Synonyms: wazzock, dipsh*t

...pious aggression and stress...

What's concrete about the same old eulogising then?
You still don't know what "eulogising" means. Please learn it.

Sorry but I think it is blazingly stupid to come to a religion board and complain about religion. What did you expect here? Naval Aviation?

You're just preaching.
That is what you think because you are incapable of precision when it comes to religion. To you, everything looks the same and every move by the theist is to prove his God exists .....to you.

But even if I am just preaching, so what? You come to a religion board and observe that a member is preaching? OK capt. Obvious. Will you go the the education board and render the blinding insight that someone is teaching there?

Reinforcing your own assumptions
You know nothing about me or what I assume. You think because you don't know, nobody knows. Your perception is not reality.

You've come to a religion board and told us "God does not exist." OK, Thanks, we heard you. Now engage in the conversation, or sod off. We want to discuss God, we believe in God. That is what this board is for.

Here is a suggestion. Petition the owner for an atheist board, where you think there will be no preaching and no assumptions.

Ignorance is bad enough, repeated ignorance is inexcusable.

But apparently they new all about time travel and teleportation. LOL.
If you think that was my point, you aren't intellectually equipped for this conversation. And if you know that was not my point but said that anyway, you aren't honest enough to be here.

Often times, the bible's authors did not know they were being used by God, many of them did not understand what they wrote, and could not see the implications.

Now there is a difference in simply saying that a person travelled back in time, and having a doctrine that is partially built on the sacrificial death of Jesus being multi-chronological, affecting people born both before the sacrifice and people born after His sacrifice.

And the question is asked in the bible, "How can Jesus's sacrifice save people like Abraham, born thousands of years before Jesus? The bible gives the answer, and the answer makes sense only if the concept that time is relative, is understood.

This isn't a claim or a guess. This is a concept, but not only a concept, but one shown working inside God's plan.

You don't know the bible, but that doesn't stop you from displaying your ignorance. You want to lump all religion into one and say every other religion could make exactly the same claims.

But I listed no claim of Christianity. It certainly makes no claim of teleportation or time travel. Your irrational fear has made you knee-jerk yet again to a "god does not exist" argument even though I said this was not an argument to prove God exists.

I spoke of "concepts", not claims.

For example, the verse saying that Noah's flood was assisted by water that came out of the Earth. For years, no one understood that verse. And atheists laughed at the story insisting that there is not enough water on Earth for the story to be true.

Guess what? There is. Science is estimating that there is more than 3 times all the world's oceans in the mantle. We don't know yet how it came out, for the flood, but the people saying the Earth didn't have enough water have shut up.

Now, there is no claim in the bible about plate tectonics, but the bible does say that early in the earth's formation, there was only one land mass, one huge continent. Science has found out this is true. Was that only a "guess" 6,000 years ago?

How did the authors know about things like moving continents and subterranean oceans? They didn't. But God knew.

No other religion has the concepts Christianity has. That is why Christianity sweeps through every culture and ethnicity, so much so that countries have to create laws to hamstring it.

The people who truly read the bible are amazed and astonished by the concepts in the book. This how the bible became the most read, most quoted, most studied, most memorized, most cherished, most influential book of all time, with nothing even close.

That is not chance or fluke. There is something different about Christianity, and this is backed up by it's performance in the real world. That is why Satan fights so hard to make people bunch all religions together and therefore examine none of them, but simply assume all are the same.

Do you know why we aren't always trying to prove God exists? Because we already know He does. Your doubt is yours, not ours. If you need reassurance, go to church. The religion board is for people who already believe God exists.

Most science fiction authors will turn out to be prophets anyway. The bible is already there.

I think it was more simple than that. I think it was the age difference when it comes to character. AOC is the quintessential intitled millennial, and Sanders is an old style socialist.

AOC doesn't back down because of her youth, and is convinced everything she thinks is God's ordained truth, and Sanders is a man who is so wedded to his ideals that often times he speaks before he has considered how what he says will play to others.

Sanders is famous for being caustic and brittle, AOC is opinionated and easily triggered. Sanders simply pissed her off to many times, and AOC just bugged him as arrogant neophyte who knew nothing but thought she did.

...the desire for purity and uniformity among supporters is more important to the progressive left then the overall number of them, where they would prefer to be at 30% and all on the same page then at 60% and pretty diverse.
I suspect this it true for both Sanders and AOC, but they think they can be at 100% purity with all the new kids the are going to enliven to join their revolution and beat Trump, so they don't really need all that diversity

Conservatives think non-conservatives are stupid, so can work with them, but progressives think non-progressives are evil, and cannot work with them.

AOC will regret this much more than Bernie will.

And this is where I agree with Etrnl. His point is that the important thing is the message God is trying to convey, not whether the story is literal or figurative.

Both such stories can contain truth. Fables and parables are examples of figurative stories that can convey deep truths. Focusing on whether a story is literal or figurative instead of on the message the story is meant to impart is like a hungry man focusing on the bowl and not the food in it.

But often, the unbeliever is unable to see the message (the food) and thus concentrates instead on the only thing he can perceive.

But with believers, I can focus on the message, because whether the story is literal or metaphorical, the message doesn't change. The story itself is just a container to transport the message.

That's why so many of Etrnl's conversations here are sadly hilarious. He wants to focus on the message, and the atheist, able the see only the bowl, focuses on the container.

@Willows
@Iced_Vovo
Don't you think that you are even more guilty of what you accuse others of?
You mean what I accuse YOU of Willows?

Do I spam the board with repeat nonsense?

Are my threads a bunch of zero-reply repetitive turds?

Am I a troll who attacks others simply for their beliefs?

No loser, I do not think I am more guilty than you of being a moron troll.

Do you care to at least be human and civil...
When did humanity and civility matter to you? You're posting from your 12th sock puppet after being banned and you still won't admit that you are suffering from OCD.

You spent 7 years insulting and demeaning theists without provocation, because your delusion tells you theists are evil. And you justified your abuse by saying you were "saving" the gullible, and that theists deserved to be insulted.

When did civility or humanity begin to matter to you hypocrite?

You have demonstrated to all that you are a mentally ill troll. You have been humiliated in front of the entire site. Worse, your OCD forces you to keep making sock puppets to parade your humiliation.

You are where you are because you refuse to accept that you are ill. No one but you is to blame. Your online life will mirror your real life. Both you and the moron hari will end up broken and alone, having driven away everyone who was dumb enough to care for you.

Go ahead, shame yourself again. Make yet another sock puppet. You know the useless moron in every movie who everyone hates and wishes he'd die? In the Dart of Thrones, you're Joffery.

@Dr.Franklin
It is Doc.

These facts lead to all kinds of revelations.

For example, why is God the standard of morality? Because God is the only being who is not relative. Only His POV is truly objective.

So we see that only God's morality is true. His is the only morality is not influenced by, or dependant on, the morality of others.

Who would have thought one could use Einstein's theory of relativity to show why God is the only logical moral standard?

Thanks Rod. Liked your take on the tower of Babel too. And today with the corona virus, the need for us to pull together has never been more true.
