@3RU7AL
I did that when I was 16 for a chain-smoking neighbor, 2 packs daily, showing him the money he could devote to a favored pastime - hunting. He quite cold turkey. He wanted to quit, and he was already aware of the health benefits, but couldn't quit on that basis. I nailed it by the cost benefit to him. Since I don't smoke anyway, that's of no benefit to me.

Me asking them if they have more questions at the end is just a way to hint that the class is ending.
That's a cop-out. Of course the students know when class ends. And if they re paying for an hour, give them the hour. oromagi's suggestion is a good one. You're supposed to be a teacher. Be creative.

What part of
I have never smoked.
went over your head? So, using what example of mine, since you totally misunderstood "I have never smoked?" Never vaped, toked, or bonged, either. I decided at 10 I would never do drugs, never smoke, never drink liquor. Why? Because I chose, and till do, by my free agency, to remain in control of my words and actions. Is it impossible? No, not with making the commitment, and following through. Didn't have sex until I was married, either. Yes, abstinence is not impossible; and that applies to abstaining anything else, as well. My generation, and yours, laughs at "Just say 'no.'" But, it does work, and I'm much better off for it. At 71, I have the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys of a 20 year-old, at least one who has also abstained. And you claim free agency is a myth. Living proof, here, bud. Living proof.

Your determinism syllogism, like most of your syllogisms, fails on P1.
I have never smoked. My past offers nothing by way of influence to begin smoking. Therefore, my decision to smoke, if I made such a decision, is entirely based on my free will to do so. On what past experience would influence a change?

That's wrong. The liberals didn't change, Trump changed.
Liberals didn't change? You want to take a read of Roe v. Wade and its very limiting third trimester allowances for abortion, and then read the proposed legislation last year of NY and VA, allowing partial birth abortion as an allowed procedure? Both legislative bodies fortunately found common sense and turned both bills away; but to say liberals have not changed on the issue is a head in the sand.

How old does one have to be for common sense to overwhelm indoctrination? Funny that in my generation [I'm a boomer] a common ethic was that no one over thirty should be trusted. I never believed it, but seems youth today are just as ill-informed. I blame public education, which, last year, with union sense overwhelming common sense, teachers took a year off. Maybe they could take another, for all the good that was accomplished. Plenty of people, like me, who would be glad to step in. C.S. is the first subject. B.S. will not be taught.

You asked for the part you don’t get:
1 The popular nationwide vote is meaningless.
2. Presidential candidates do not visit every state, but, at least in the last two elections, your Democrats lack it more than Republicans. Go cry I your own beer.

bmd's answer to your question of Russia owning Ukraine ignores a current fact: Ukraine's sovereignty, and that's what's wrong with the argument of Russia's ownership of any land they occupy that is not their current sovereignty, including Crimea. Too damn bad if Russia has no Black Sea port. They have the Pacific and the Bearing Sea. Not sufficient? Too damn bad. Tell me what seaport is had by Switzerland, and numerous other land-locked countries? My State has no seaport, either.

Here's what you don't get:
Trump made 79 visits in 19 states as an incumbent.
Biden made 57 visits to 13 states as a wanna-be.
Presidential candidates do not spend time in states that are a virtual locks, but even Hillaryous Balloon Girl vs Trump:
Trump, 45 states visited
Clinton, 37 states visited.

I don't see how relative financial situation dictates parental responsibility. What's the connection. I may be blind to it, because I grew up in upper middle class, and I've improved on that myself. Still, I had to figure it out myself because in my formative years of education, we were taught real stuff, not coddled. In my generation, parents were expected to teach sex education, or we did it ourselves. This is nonsense to expect society to do it. Parental abdication is one reason why society is so screwed up. That state simoly cannot do this. Government does not make anything, and should be involved in personal lives to that degree.

You're both missing critical, constitutional points regarding both the Electoral College and SCOTUS
Re: E.C., The system is absolutely NOT rigged. If you will take an in-depth look at presidential elections, both with the E.C., and assuming a national popular vote method. A point on the latter: There was never an accounting of a national popular vote until the third presidential election, and the only reason it even exists today is because the media made such a big deal about it as television came of age in the late 40s. It was always conceived as a state-by-state election, with the E.C. taking its constitutional decree. The E.C. is a far more representative reflection of the presidential vote because it requires one candidate to carry far more states, almost double, than does a nationwide popular vote. You would know this by a careful analysis of state-by-state elections by looking at both types of voting. Since you have not, you believe the media hype; that the E.C. is rigged. As usual, because the media wants a nationwide popular vote, they tell you the E.C. is rigged. Media does not exist to tell the truth. It is the only private industry mentioned in the Constitution, and it exists to offer a balance to the government, which is not the same as saying they tell the truth. They don't because they all, including FoxNews, have an agenda. The media should tell the truth; that's the best balance, but they just don't, and almost never have. How long do y'all think muckraking has been a criticism of media?
Re: SCOTUS: The argument that SCOTUS has always been politically biased is another media hype almost from its inception, but that notion is defeated by a very simple historic look at the results of SCOTUS decisions. Far more unanimous decisions have come out of SCOTUS than any other decision split, by a factor of 59.2%. Further, the controversial Roe v. Wade [1973] was a 7-2 decision, with 4 of the 7 being appointed by Republican presidents. Yeah, real political group, there. Scalia and Ginsburg were personal friends, in spite of their differences, and the often decided for the same side. Real political, huh?
Stop believing the hype and do your own investigation into this stuff. Pure and simple: the media lies. The Constitution is sound.
And, as for Steven Breyer, since nobody asked, his term limit isn't. So stop the demands that he retire, because it is entirely on him, even by his death, which is still five years younger than was Ginsburg. I applaud her for staying on, even in a diminished capacity - diminished by time, and not by capacity. Same with Breyer. The Rs were wrong to call for her departure. The Ds are wrong to call for Breyer to step down. Just stifle and let the Court do its job.

And so, I launched a debate challenge proposing an 8-week fetus in a successful live-birth - something we have never seen, by the way - as a foil against Roe v. Wade, so it is a unique title and subject, yet no one on the pro-choice side wanted to take it up. Thus, your unique argument fails.
But, it's not like you have, in three years, had much experience debating in the first place. Experience says volumes. Get some.

Some of you may be aware that I personally oppose no-vote ties as a debate result. Most who debates typically spend a moderate-to-heavy amount of time in research to take a position and justify it. Their time expended deserves a response from voters. Generally, the system works, but, it is flawed in that we allow too many debates to conclude with no votes cast. I know, because I am party to 7 of them among my total of 10 ties. 70% of my tied debates are n.v.t. [no-vote tie] results. That leads the n.v.t. in the top 15 ranked debaters.
Currently, there are 4 debates in voting with zero votes. I am participant in 3 of them, and 1 will expire in 1 day, so, my issue is not without foundation. Until recently, there were 9 no-vote debates, but I have voted on four of them. Most still have my single vote. Since I cannot vote in my debates, and the other no-vote debate cannot vote on their debate, we depend on you. It does make a huge difference.
So, go vote already!!!!
Beatings will continue until morale improves.

Your cited article makes no mention of the player, Eriksen, dying. He collapsed on the field of play and was taken to the hospital, and is now recovering.
Your cited article makes no mention of Eriksen being vaccinated for Covid-19. In fact, the word "vaccine" is never used.
Your cited article makes mention of "Covid-19" only in terms of Eriksen never contracting the virus, and that a fre players on a Spanish team have contracted the virus.
Your cited article makes no mention of "24 hours" related to anything at all, let alone someone dying.
From whence, then, your claim:
A football player dies on field just 24 hours after receiving the vaccine.
From a part of the anatomy?

You are making a classic misinterpretation of what the media [the "press," as constitutionally rendered] is for. Note that constitutionally, the press is the only specific private industry mentioned, and the constitutional language associated with that industry is to offer balance to the institution of government. You are expecting the press to offer a different perspective than "balance;" i.e., the "truth." The two are not synonymous terms, yet many people, past and present, expect that they are. Is there such a thing as the reporting of truth? Since media is, by nature, a perspective, we are left with the perspectives of those who report news, none of whom have a truly omniscient perspective, as God might. Don't expect holy writ from the press. Never. This is why one must never accept what is said without doing personal investigation. Form your own opinion. Do not expect the press to ever form it for you, because all have an agenda that may not be yours.

Currently, there are not 86,400 seconds in one day, because there are not an even 24 hours in one day, and even the actual count [23 hours, 56 minutes is not accurate, because it is not repeatable. Our orbit wanders in shape over 405,000 years, changing the duration of one day]. In 24 hours, exactly, the Earth rotates through 360.986 degrees, on every rotation. You think accuracy is at hand when we add one day to our calendar every four years? So, what improvement is made by converting time count into metric time. It will still vary.

My problem is that you are satisfied by the inaccuracy of that "moment." That "moment" is so fundamental to our entire dichotomy of scientific endeavor, it is shocking that our standardization of it is so inaccurate. What does that say for our contemplation of a relatively infantile science such as climatology? Not much. Certainly not sufficient for "science" to declare that we are doomed. As if we don't embrace an ability that is entirely timeless: adaptability. How the hell can we measure that by a tick-tock? Yet, the Paris Accord has declared it.
When we arrive on Mars, we will discover the remnant of an ancient civilization that declared their impeding doom. They called it 'climate change," and they did not avoid de-frocking St. Darwin, either. All because of a tick-tock they also constructed poorly; perhaps because they also believed it was real.

If time exists, it is inaccurately applied. We apply it so poorly, we must add one "day" every four "years" to our "calendar," just to justify that inaccurate calendar, yet we can split "seconds" into billionths. Why don't we just apply a different measure? Why not? Because, we find, we cannot depend on a consistent orbit around the sun to last an identical amount of "time," each "year." So, with all those inaccuracies, convince me that "time" is a dependable constant. And what would a rogue black hole, wandering through the universe, do to our "time" should it approach? Time is so far from being a constant, why do we fool ourselves that it is? Because we are schedule driven rather than accomplishment driven.

My mother-in-law, who lives with us, is 95, and sharp as a tack. By comparison, Biden is a blunt broomstick. "I can beat Joe Biden." Remember that brilliant message? And the media's response apology was even worse: "Nom, what he really said was 'I can be Joe Biden." So, who was he supposed to be when he allegedly said that? The media was wrong. I have a complete audio studio [I do voiceovers]. The "t" is clearly there. To have to lie to apologize for the man is absurd.

There’s a building over there into which you’ve expressed no interest in entering, and never have, yet you claim to know all about it. You've entirely missed my point. My #1 clearly separates a true genetic mismash of gender presentation and those whose clear cis-gendership is opposed by what they think they are. There is a difference. If I think I am a talented baseball player and should by hired by MLB to play, but I am not, should I be able to play simply by what I think I am? Nope. If I don't meet a standard, generally, I should not expect that I should play, anyway. Further, let's say I happen to be able to run down fly balls, because I happen to have three legs, do I not have an advantage other players don't have, should I play? Probably not, unless there is a whole league of three-legged players.
