@Grugore
That is a possibility as well.
I am definitely a clueless sucker,and I've been called much worse.

Sometimes it's fast, sometimes it's slow?
How many mutations do you think it took to evolve an entirely new gut structure in that lizard?

@drafterman
Ok, evolution is now fast. Gotcha.

@Stephen
I will say though. evolution only works up to a certain point when we are talking the development of mankind.
what do you mean?

@Goldtop
I guess evolution doesn't take millions of years. Luckily that lizard hit on the right mutations quickly to develop that new gut structure. I wonder how many mutations that took? Not much time for trial and error.

"In just a few decades the 5-inch-long (13-centimeter-long) lizards have developed a completely new gut structure, larger heads, and a harder bite, researchers say."
Isn't evolution supposed to be slow?

A holon (Greek: ὅλον, holon neuter form of ὅλος, holos "whole") is something that is simultaneously a whole and a part.
Koestler proposed the word holon to describe the hybrid nature of sub-wholes and parts within in vivo systems. From this perspective, holons exist simultaneously as self-contained wholes in relation to their sub-ordinate parts, and as dependent parts when considered from the inverse direction.
Koestler also says that holons are self-reliant units that possess a degree of independence and can handle contingencies without asking higher authorities for instructions. I.e. they have a degree of autonomy. These holons are also simultaneously subject to control from one or more of these higher authorities. The first property ensures that holons are stable forms that are able to withstand disturbances, while the latter property signifies that they are intermediate forms, providing a context for the proper functionality for the larger whole.
This is the way I see it, EtrnlVv, we are a part of God, but distinct at the same time.

@EtrnlVw
who is the observer of the mind, body and emotions?
I am.
is that "observer" distinct from the brain and the senses of the body (soul/spirit)?
Yes.
is the observer or the soul itself distinct from God (Creator)?
Yes.

Thank you PW. It was pretty much what I thought it would be.

I would like a reading please.
My topic: should I start meditation again?

Test? I don't know. I was more wondering what other theists have experienced.

@Stronn
Huh? Your analogy just proves my point.
No, it doesn't.
If you mess with bricks, and the result is that you cannot build a house, then clearly bricks have something to do with building a house.
They are necessary, but have nothing to do with the DESIGN PLANS.
If you mess with genes, and the result is altered brain development, then clearly genes have something to do with brain development.
See above.

@secularmerlin
You are a materialist atheist and you have to believe that. I understand.
Created:

@Stronn
...and those proteins comprise structures in the brain.
Alter specific genes in an embryo, and you can drastically affect brain development.
So?
Fuck with the makeup of bricks and you can't build a house. It doesn't prove genes have anything to do with brain development.
Created:

@Stronn
No it isn't. Genes encode the manufacture of proteins.

Conscience is your gift from God, SM. I know you think otherwise.

@Goldtop
I have to agree, some are taught that. Maybe a lot, in the Abrahamic religions. it is sad. I have heard Jehova witnesses call atheists"goats".

@TwoMan
Did I mention the word "arbitrary"?
We all have the same sense of right and wrong, and it comes through our conscience, which is a gift from God.

@keithprosser
Some people are more evil that others. But i don't believe psychopaths have NO moral sense. They have it the same as the rest of us. They just choose to ignore it more often.

@keithprosser
Humans are inherently both good and evil.

@Mopac
Yet the atheist still has a real sense of right and wrong, a conscience. They just don't know it comes from God.

The tom hanks character shows his spiritual growth throughout the movie.there is a st George and the dragon theme throughout the movie. the old georgie character is his inner battle, not an outer one(with the dragon) he is fighting georgie(himself). i think the final move to off planet shows he has won the inner battle (the off world represents his higher state of consciousness)
Created:

@keithprosser
ok. why is that your opinion?what has led you to that conclusion?
Created:

@keithprosser
I suggest that everything derives from consciousness, not the other way around
Created:

@secularmerlin
I don't think self awareness is necessary for consciousness.

@secularmerlin
a baby doesn't know it is a sepreate being. that comes with experience and time. i don't know if a dog is self-aware. but a monkey might be.
are humans the only being with the ability to kno w it has a self? maybe. maybe dolphins do.

@secularmerlin
I just think a living being would have to be "aware " in some degree. not necessarily self awareness, but at least some small bit of awareness, emotions to some degree.
Created:

@secularmerlin
I think everything is aware, like we are. They experience life

Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
That's all I found in a quick search. Maybe there is more? I don't know.
