I was a vegetarian for seven years- there’s something in me that has always been a little revolted by meat- particular organs and bones. I don’t cook much meat for myself but I’ve been a chef and baker in many restaurants and When I am a guest I make a habit of accepting what’s offered in spite of my preferences.

From an anthropological point of view meat is very expensive relative to eating plants - we spend something like 50 times as many calories of energy making one calorie of beef as we do one calorie of rice.  i think a major  cultural shift to much less meat is smart, more sustainable, practically inevitable as we are now maxing out arable land on earth. My neighborhood is downtown & there are a rapidly increasing number of vegan venues opening up. There’s s vegan bakery just down the street from me. 

My little brother is opposite: he literally lives almost entirely on meat he’s hunted and killed himself- but we enjoy one another’s cooking and don’t think of our food habits as incompatible, really. 

So, Joshua_Stebold has been requesting friendship for 14 days and I've been blowing him off pending resolution of this mishigas.  My rule is to not request friendship but to accept any friendship that seems sincere and I note that Josh has already posted more debates than I have which makes me think whatever the results of the above, josh must be clear of it.   I guess I'm asking Is the above resolved to everyone's satisfaction?

Once, I was in a high school production of  Neil Simon’s romantic comedy “Barefoot in the Park.”  The day before the show a doctor froze off 5 or 6 warts on my fingers, creating huge blood blisters. As I nervously walked on stage, the blisters popped causing blood to cascade down white, vinyl suitcase I was holding, eliciting groans of horror from the audience.  I was too nervous to notice and did the whole act with my hands covered in blood.  I didn’t notice until the end when I had to lift the actress who played my wife off a step-ladder on to the floor for a big scene ending kiss. She was wearing a little yellow negligee and my hands left huge bloody paw prints all over her and she refused to kiss.  Pretty awkward and awful.

yeah, well.  Now I feel like a maniac.

Crazy car crash a few miles from my house this evening.  First a schoolbus and a semi crashed but while traffic was still at a standstill for that accident, another semi that had lost its breaks coming down Deadman's Curve (this used to happen often, hence the name) barrelled into the stopped traffic: 4 semis and 12 cars burned.  Multiple fatalities.  The interstate will be closed both directions until at least after morning rush hour.

Denverites know this interchange well, it is basically the last stop before the mountains.  Here is some pretty good on the spot video:
