who did you watch DP1

what's the connect between Mt. Vesuvius and WATCHER role?

That's a long pause Wylted, you should have this info at the ready
Especially since I already pointed out that these missing elements informed my own problems with his claim. He made several posts after that without addressing these issues.
If wylted is scum, he clearly chose the ROLE claim over the CHARACHTER claim.

Electric bus failure in Philadelphia
-->
@Wylted
the failure is due to how absurd dog shit septa is.

Tons of cities could have made this work with the right support.
If the Chinese can make 421,000 electric buses  work for their commuters, often buying the buses from us, then it seems Dr Franklin is disproved.  Yes, electric buses fail as does all of creation the question is one of value for taxpayer money spent.  We've established that 98% of electric buses in US work better than the Philly buses and hundreds of thousand of buses work better than Philly in China.  If China can use tech we made for them efficiently then it stands to reason that we can use that tech efficiently as well.

PROPOSAL for OLYMPFIX: UNCLUSTER the OLYMPICS for a more SUSTAINABLE INTERNATIONAL CONTEST
It seems to me that the Olympics is irrationally overburdened by the Greek anachronisms the organization re-instated in 1896.  Specifically that the Olympics should take place every four years in one place.

Now, I understand that scale and infrequency are part of what lends the Olympics its sense of occasion but I think the ultimate goal of promoting athletics and modelling peaceful international competition and cooperation are undermined by that very scale and infrequency.

  • The massive scale of the event places an unreasonable burden on the host city to build facilities- often single use facilities that are demolished or else decay through underutilization.
    • Such overbuilding is hugely inefficient. The same amount of money could represent valuable infrastructure investments if spread around to many metropolises in need of new or improved facilities.
    • The burden to build too much infrastructure on a 12-year deadline seems to regularly promote corrupt overcharging by builders as well as corrupt bribing of Olympic officials to bring all that wasteful new construction to town- money that is never re-couped by the events themselves.  Some argue that hosting the Olympics improves a host cities reputation but I don't think that claim can be quantified so I'm skeptical.
      • Spreading new construction money around would allow more efficient use of existing infrastructures and smaller-scale targeted improvement might also substantially reduce Olympic corruption.
    • Because many different events must be crammed into one metropolis, many sporting events must suffer non-optimal or even totally inappropriate conditions-too warm or too cold, artificial ice, or sand, or grass, or water, etc.  Spreading out the Olympics geographically would allow a better match of sport to geography and allow some cities that could never possibly host the whole gamut of events to shine geographically or specialize in a reputation for one kind of sport.
  • The Olympiad (4 year cycle) model is based on the ancient Greek calendar which included one leap day per year for a 1461-day base cycle.  That ancient model does not reflect our global sense of seasonality anymore and puts a lot of pressure on athletes.
    • Many athletes in many different sports hit their peak athleticism for a much shorter window than 4 years and never get a chance to show off their best on the biggest athletic stage by misfortune of birthdate or an injury that occludes their one shot at greatness.
      • Making many sports annual events would allow many more athletes an opportunity to shine internationally and more accurately reflect the athletic body by eliminating the pressure of happenstance injury or off-peak performances.
        • It seems a shame that we may never learn the names of the best athletes in a sport because a single fault of timing or circumstance.
        • Some athletes might have less such peak consideration (team sailing, perhaps or ) and could be free to determine the best time cycle to promote their sport.
    • Furthermore, many sports only get an international audience at the Olympics and the four-year gap severely discourages continued interest.
      • Annual events should increase audience interest and allow more narrative to emerge in less-watched sports.
    • The time pressure to run so many sports simultaneously means that many  smaller events get occluded by more popular events and never get a real shot at increasing interest in their events.  Spreading events out across the year would give smaller events a better chance to be the most interesting sporting event on tv.
PROPOSAL1:  Spread events out geographically, lending Olympic prestige to a wide variety of international communities that might be very appropriate for one or two events but totally incapable of hosting the big show.

PROPOSAL2:  Customize iterations to the sport- many sports would enjoy improved competitiveness and audience interest from an annual cycle.

PROPOSAL3:  The technology of audience viewing is changing faster than the 12-year cycle of rewarding broadcasting rights.  The Olympics would do better to take control of the broadcasting of their international events on a digital channel of their own, which would allow them to stay more nimbly on top of changing viewership models.  Done right, The Olympics could realize far more direct profit from advertisers than they might by selling broadcast rights 12 years out.

PROPOSAL4:  The Olympics could improve their brand considerably by seeking to be the venue for all international contests.  The World Cup, for example, is another Olympiad style international contest that might do very well under the imprimatur of the Olympic brand. That particular event might be too popular to be interested but there are plenty of other international contests that might improve their brand by joining  the Olympic brand umbrella. If the brand maintained a reputation for fair conduct and consistent standards, the Olympics could go a long way to standardizing international competitions across a wide variety of athletic matches.

Now everyone has claimed.  There's probably more than a few battles that seem unimportant, but there is probably some obscure link between town. I am more interested in justification imo among the fully claimed.
I don't think the link is all that obscure.  Of the ten battles listed Romans only lost one- Cannae.

The one uncovered claim was SCUM and was also a Roman loss.

5 are civil war battles with Roman winners and losers on both sides, 4 are Roman victories over foreign powers.

Oh hold up I didn't realize supa is claiming strengthener.

My role doesn't have an actual specified link between my role but I am assuming it is inferred by my battle, but I didn't quite catch or understand what that was. SCUM SUPA

  • Ignored by Badger
  • L-1'd Badger
  • Absent for most of DP1
  • Most Carrhae-like battle claim
  • Very hard to test claim
    • Justification weak
  • Claims no action in NP1 without prompting
  • POST#8 I say YwwwT(You win with the Town- my wincon), 3hrs later Supa asks 'wdym'  Now I've said a couple different things but because of intialism, I think he is replying to POST#8 so I ask play it cagey.  More hours later he say he wondered what I meant by "drafterman's role list is locked" although I don't think that was unclear.  I can't help but wonder if he was interrogated my wincon and then figured it out later, then made sure I knew he knew wincon by overemphasizing Wyted's flub.
TOWN SUPA

  • Full claimed quick, doesn't look like mod-gift claim
  • TUF says STRENGTHENER matches something in his claim

If Badger had a fake claim or role I don't think he would have refused to use it in his defense.  If Supa is scum, Cannae would not be a great fake character because it is the only other major defeat on the list.  STRENGTHENER would also not be a great fake role because its just as likely scum as town.  I also don't think mafia would pass up on an opportunity for either.

Which battle are you Oro?
Finally somebody asks.  I spend all day collecting everybody else's battles and nobody thinks to ask me for mine.  Which makes me think nobody sincerely suspects me of being scum.

I am the Battle of Alesia- the climactic battle of Caesar's legions over the Gauls.

I soft claimed this in DP1 post #15

who has one of the most awesome military statues ever

Anyone else not have a justification? Or just me? My justification I mean "because of all this you are _____" or something along those lines

Mine doesn't say because of this but there an effort to connect battle to role- it is kind of stretch but connecting battle descriptions to roles seems like it would be hard to do.

If you handed me this list of battles and asked which battle was most like Carrhae I would say Cannae.

If you handed me this list of battles and asked which battle seemed most out of place I would say Mt Vesuvius followed by Watling Street.  All the rest of these are huge battles that get treatments by major Roman historians.

Did you use the role last night, if so who did you use it on and why?

No harm in letting us know since you've claimed. Kind of odd you didn't say tbh, especially since you already admitted your role was useless due to a dead roleblocker...
He specifically stated that he held back because he only had X2 and didn't know who to strengthen.  He also felt like his role was wasted now that roleblocker was out of the game.

Yes.

Hannibal met an army about twice his size with a thin line shaped like a bow curved toward the roman lines, with light infantry and skirmishing celtiberians in the center and infantry on wings- the opposite of a traditional line.  As the huge Roman lines advanced, the bow pulled back to a straight line then back until it is bowed the entire other way- a half circle with infantry  on both ends flanking the romans- a perfect pincher maneuver.  The maneuver took an incredible amount of discipline- backing up a long way without losing cohesion or disengaging- an incredibly strong buy flexible line that then became a circle that devoured a much larger army.

whites might be less likely to hire blacks or place them in housing, or whatever. i would call that discrimination. not racism
RACISM is "discrimination based upon race or ethnicity."  Since you have agreed it is discrimination based upon race, you have described racism by definition.

So we've got all but Chris now-  he says he not on the short list.

Mt. Vesuvius still definitely stands out a uniquely weak claim.  Watling Street is also rather underpowered but at least Watling St was the big battle of that war and involved three legions.  Mt. Vesuvius was a minor skirmish- the Battle of Picenum and the Battle of SIlarius River were much, much larger scale in that Third Servile War- involving whole legions and 10,000's of combatants instead of just a few thousand.

Further, we have no Teutoburg Forest and looking at the other namse on this list I expect Teutoberg would be there.  It seems very plausible that Wylted is Teutoberg covering  with a battle which he has an outsized notion of due to his being a fan of Spartacus.  I doubt Pie would give him that claim so if he made it up, then he probably has a good role claim given by Pie.

Cannae connects strongly with Carrhae as a Roman disaster with big impacts on Roman history.  Supa has helpfully volunteered his ROLE but his role is not particularly TOWN or very testable (conveniently).  In fact, Supa just sort of announced that his power was wasted, which rather depends on what other roles are here.

Milvian Bridge is 200 years later than most of these battles.  Cannae and Zama are about 150 years before most of these battle.

talk to no less than 500 people a day and average about 3 sales a day, which even though I am new puts me among the best. Most people say know, and the male celebrity I talked to mention his famous wife is broke on paper and so she won the car in the divorce. The rock star says he gets chauffeured around and sold the car until his tours slow down.
I've done cold call hospital satisfaction interviews so I believe you when you say 3/500 is an excellent record.  That is very difficult work.

So 90's rock band, on tour, famous wife- now divorced, broke

seems like that should be guessable.
