The purpose of school, like the purpose of any education system, is to improve the aptitude outcomes within students and to prepare students for higher level education to serve as a transition toward producing functional members of society. We can call this purpose "beta" (β) for argument's sake.
The question of this debate is whether or not the school is working, which is simply interpreted as meeting these criteria to a basic degree. One way we can test if schooling meets these goals to a "working" degree is by evaluating the attainments of those who have received schooling vs those who have not to varying degrees. Observe the inference like this:

P1) If it is the case that those who receive basic schooling when contrasted with those who do not receive significantly better educational, social, and future outcomes, then schooling works for achieving purpose β (P→Q)

P2) It is the case that those who receive basic schooling when contrasted with those who do not receive significantly better educational, social, and future outcomes (P)

C) Schooling works for achieving purpose β (∴Q)

So, we simply need some form of empirical defense for P2. And as Howtoadult says, "Aside from possible criminal charges, children who don't attend school face long-term consequences. Not attending school means a child won't receive an education, which will make it difficult to pursue college or a good job. Children who are truant and have parents who don't require them to attend school are at a higher risk for substance abuse, gang activity and criminal behavior, according to the National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention. As adults, children who didn't attend school regularly are more likely to have health problems, experience mental health disorders and be incarcerated," so it seems like we have a claim that is almost obviously true.

This is likely wholly true. That does not change the comparative jobs each side did on arguing the resolution. You are supposed to vote mainly for the quality of arguments, rather than just the truth of the arguments. Reason:

Wrong, school is not working, because you learn, you don't make money. Flipping burgers is working, Typing design plans in a company warehouse is working. Studying in school earns you nothing, besides the scholarship, which is beside the point of schooling the direction.

Or maybe school is working if you are applied an internship from a vocational school. Who cares.
