The cute-sy culture is age regression from the otherwise extreme other side of toxic martial wannabe warrior and full of talk of family or tribalistic reputation (so called family honour or clan honour). Women are still highly expected to be confined to the kitchen. Gay marriage was denied (as if that'll increase population) in Japan and South Korea.
