The only reason I got abused and ridiculed for it is that Whiteflame and Barney sit back and allow it. David is in a sticky situation because he is ranked beneath both.

pedophiles and depraved people now an operate in PMs here and are encouraged to operate in one on one PMs with 13 year olds due to the risk of them being banned in current site. It's probably more dangerous to have them operate in the shadows than publicly where exchanges can be moderated through social pressure that informs the 13 year old of the dangers of interacting with such people

Sounds like a fun concept, though I'm not sure if my Chromebook is compatible with the software needed for this. Honestly "no log" would suck the fun out of everything, as nothing would happen unless two people were on at the same time. I'd suggest maybe a log that deletes entries after, say, a week. This would strike a sensible balance between privacy and basic functionality. It'd also be really messy if there wasn't multiple threads as opposed to a single continuous chat, though admittedly I don't know if a primitive direct chat system would enable this.

I'm open to anything that doesn't include porn or viruses. Though realistically it'd be the same people as here and I don't expect the dynamic would be much different from, say, a DART Discord server. The selling point is the mystique more than anything else.

I agree that he was right to punish some, including me but he was severely biased.

Honesty was not his motive, popularity and being 'one of the group' was. WF seems to suffer from a similar affliction but MORE severely.

https://justplainpolitics.com/ for example seems to be a free for all with lots of sidewinder like repetitive derangement on all sides.

Dysfunctional, but not repressive (which is a population killing dysfunction).

Most others have vague rules arbitrarily enforced.

The zoo sites have free speech zones which work pretty much the same way as justplainpolitics but there are several third rails, pedo being the highest voltage, doxing not far behind.

My impression was that he looked at like an overwhelmed parent.

Whatever made people stop squawking the fastest, he said and did. Every communication, every report, every squabble was a new 'universe of pain' and the only thing that mattered was making that problem go away as soon as possible.

No matter who complains first or how often, the side that won't let it go is eternally in the wrong.


You raise kids that way they'll turn into bullies or cunning victims (people with no trust in authority and a willingness to lie to protect themselves). I think a common form of 'sociopath like' people are manufactured by such parents. (Both the bullies and victims learn manipulation is more reliable than honesty, justice becomes something impractical on a subconscious level).


People on forums should not be treated like children in any case, and nobody with power should conduct themselves like that regardless.

It's not an easy problem to solve. Many wrong answers and no simple solutions.

Avoiding viruses is "easy", just write good software.

Avoiding porn is not.

I don't want to derail this thread, this is Wylted's show, but I always thought the solution was up the alley of staking money.


In my opinion the most of the main category of "problem" posts including (unsolicited) pornography is spam. People (or bots) spam for various reasons but the fundamental issue is that it costs them nothing (or very little) to create a new avatar and do it while it costs a lot more effort for every possible victim to manually block them.

Creating 'antibodies' in the form of trusted content screeners which spread information about bad posts and bad posters is one strategy, but another is simply to raise the cost of creating a new origin (avatar, nickname, 'account').

You can see how someone like me wouldn't have a problem with that. I have stuck with the same name for ten years. Whatever good or ill I've done, I'm willing to let it follow me around.

I think that's the pattern of good actors, even anonymous ones. If I staked $500 of crypto on my username, that would not have been an issue.

A spam bot can't do that. A spam bot probably couldn't accomplish anything if it had to stake $5 on each 'account'.

I also agree with it but nobody's perfect. His philosophy is great but carrying it out the way he did was not. Nobody's perfect though and he is welcome in the arena just not as a moderator. Moderators generally fear the arena so we are unlikely to ever see him there

I guess I was assuming you were thinking a few steps ahead, I have thought about this a lot so to me it was the elephant in the room:

Bans, ignores, and all other forms content filtering are nullified by the ability to create new content origins ('accounts') at zero cost. It's a problem in the family of DDoS attacks.

It becomes a fundamental problem when anonymous accounts are a required feature. If you can't tell one person from another, how can you enforce a content filter on them?

It would only take one CP for you (and everybody else) to ignore Best.Korea, but if he can just make another account, say TheSunGod or whatever, and do the same thing 10 minutes later; then you have a crippling problem.

Excuse me for being rather tech illiterate (the most savvy thing I've ever done was download a romhack to play an old Japan-exclusive SNES game, and all I really had to do was follow the steps).

From my very limited knowledge, I don't see any bulletproof solution for this. Making users pay would keep out bots (to the extent that they target old 20th century platforms), but either the cost would be high enough to deter users from signing up or low enough that a stubborn troublemaker who was willing to fork over some lunch money could get back on when he needed to shed his skin every other week or so. The fact that we'd be using Tor or VPNs would rule out IP bans, whereas a requirement to tell a central moderator who you were would unduly rely on honesty.

I guess one solution would be that you download some kind of program, like a cookie or something, that gives your computer a unique identifier so that multiple "accounts" is impossible. Some users would know how to remove this, while others (such as myself) perhaps wouldn't; at least, this countermeasure would work against some people.

Of course I do, they didn't teach it in schools. I wish I could say it won't be a problem with future generations but from what I can tell they're still not teaching it.

The 5-15 year olds I've talked to recently are 'tech savvy' in a completely shallow and 'false sense of security way'.

As in I think it's getting worse. They think trivia about apps and gossip about tech firms is what tech savvy means.

I mean we all see which way this civilization is headed. Knowing C++ ought to have been the new 'handwriting' in elementary school in like 2005.

I didn't say "pay" (although paying to use a service is a good idea), I said "stake".

With cryptocurrency (and it would have to be crypto to comply with anonymity and decentralization requirements) you can have a wallet that just sits there and holds money.

They don't lose the money, but they can't use it for other things.

The idea is that the wallet ID becomes the new IP address. Ultimately it is anonymous, but the system could consider wallets which have amounts below the threshold or which have added money too recently to be invalid.

So I said $500, and yea that's high enough that it would greatly discourage a lot of people; but it's not like I am saying I would pay $500 to the "site owners" (there wouldn't be any owners). It is still my money, but if I spend it or transfer it to another account I create a 'cooldown' based on whatever trust algorithm is used.


I would make the trust algorithm a hybrid of many factors including a continuous function of staked crypto. More money means more trust. Older money means more trust. Users could also vouch for other users in different contexts and that would be weighted by the trust of the voucher.

So for instance the most basic level of vouching would be like "this is not a chat bot".

Once you have all that, it may be as simple as setting peer to peer privileges based on the trust in a certain context. For example, you might set your client to view text for trust level 0.35 but in order to automatically download unvetted images it would have to be 0.75.

As for rich psychos, yea the money part wouldn't fix that, hence the need for a hybrid solution. There is not much you can do about people willing to invest time before pouncing though.

With enough money you can pay certain companies to route your TOR traffic through a premium proxy network making it nearly impossible to differentiate them from normal internet traffic, i.e. a site might think they have an IP for a normal house but they don't. (this applies to sites normal sites that aren't trying to be anonymous or decentralized).

Not a solution, that's just reinventing the IP while adding the glaring option of forging an identifier.

Plus if rich people are a problem, (and by some magic they couldn't forge an ID), they could just buy multiple devices. There are $150 tablet things.

The moment you solve every problem and make it so a PC can always be reidentified you've removed anonymity which brings in retaliation which means you no longer have free speech.

Some people may be fine with that, assuming that they'll never say anything that anybody would get mad enough about to do something in real life but it renders the whole effort extraneous in my opinion.

The last ten years have shown us we have a free speech problem and we will always have a free speech problem unless a system that is beyond all practical attack guarantees it. I am certain something like this is the future of human democracy in the coming millennia, and getting it sooner may be the factor that prevents a digital police state from establishing permanent and stable control.
