We need to gather intel period. That's why I asked a few times about a bookstore. Was hoping to find some historical books that outline more about Barovias history and political climate. Like, is there a capital? Or is it more like city-states? Or perhaps similar to Germania pre-unification?ย
Is Krezk larger than Vallaki? If so there's a good chance we find a library, magic shops, bookstores, stuff like that, that could potentially divulge regional, political, location, etc. information.ย
When we get back into town we should inquire around about Krezk, the Temple, etc. Methinks my meeting set up with the mysterious strangers benefactor could shed light on some of these things/point us in the direction to obtain such info.

Magic circle set to affect fey would have been useful during that hag fight.
True, that in conjunction with silence would effectively neutralize them entirely. Make it so they can't exit the circle pop a silence in the circles area, and bam, they cant cast spells and cant move. Easy peasy. The issue i seeย is it takes 1 minute to prep it, so doing it on the fly in the middle of combat doesn't seem all too feasible ๐.ย

I can't prepare any third level spells until we long rest. I just have the two from my knowledge domain until then.
Ohhh, I thought you hadย the opportunity to prepare 3rd level spells already. It just occurred to me that we actually hit level 5 today, post our last LR.ย I was so bamboozled there for a moment, and was like, "but, this is so not like Merlin. Maybe he was tired? and virtually no third level spells prepared.
Wait, so you didn't prepare the ressurect(revivify) available to you in 3rd level spells? No Beacon of Hope? Which automatically maximizes healing spells for any number of creatures you choose? As in, whatever the maximum amount is that could be healed on a healing spell, it automatically does it. PLUS gives advantage on Wisdom and Death saving throws?ย
But whyyyyyyyy?ย

Does spirit weapon and/or prayer of healing scale up the higher the slot you use?
Created:

@secularmerlin
(eh, I think it'd be more prudent to just use our hit dice to heal up some and reserve those slots for spirit weapon. Let's say another 2-3 encounters at most before we make camp? pending how difficult those encounters may be. We should each have 5 hit die. So really, using 2 die + song of rest should heal us up nicely and back to full or at least near it.ย
Prayer of Healing seems more situational to like, we just long rested so we can't, but got into a really tough fight and we're all near death. Prayer of Healing in conjunction with a short rest at that point would be optimal use of it because healing just w/a short rest when all near death would require pretty much every hit die+song of rest, just to have a slim chance of rolling really well and healing beyond just a moderate amount. That's when prayer of healing shines because it would add 4d6 healing to that total, increasing the odds of healing back to full or near full by quite a bit.)

the chances of one more ac making a difference would be extremely small, I don't think it's worth giving up an extra attack.
(It'd be like, a Max 5%(1/20) increased chance to not get hit. At 18 ur at a pretty good AC as is and actually nearing the max you can obtain w/out magical items to boost it. AC becomes less important the higher you level, because it doesn't change much. Like for example a level 1 might have 16 AC, while that same character at 10 might have like 17-19 AC
This ties into bounded accuracy and how that changed the distribution of damage in fights. Instead of alot misses with a burst of damage upon hitting, it's less misses, but less burst in favor of that dmg being more spread out over time. Bounded accuracy is also why they took out Masterwork items, +1 items are, even at just +1 and non-magical, still more in the realm rare items in terms of power, as opposed to the moreso uncommon/common item they were considered before.)

Also, you see that interview of Richard Spencer by Dinesh D'Souza in the recent movie that was released where Spencer said such gems like:
- "ultimately the state gives rights to you.โ
- said he did not admire Reagan but instead looked to presidents Jackson and Polk as role models.
"Party is just the vessel one uses"
- Identified himself as a progressive, specifically in line with a 1920's Democrat.ย
-saying he embraces socialism, specifically nationalized healthcare and economic government control.
Except the racism, his platform is a progressives wet dream, and tbh D'Souza fmpov didnt really ask leading questions. Spencer took them there himself. I hazard to guess if he was actually trying to lead him, he probably could've gotten Spencer to admit to a crime he didn't commit or that he has a penchant for kicking babies ๐. For awhile Spencer's been trying to posture himself as right-wing, and in one sentence, "ultimately the state gives you rights." he ruined it all. Gotta call it for what it is, absolute shenanigans.ย

Hillary Clinton is a white supremacist confirmed. Turns out, there was no non white supremacist candidate in the 2016 election. In the biggest plot twist of them all, they both are and it was all just a ruse, a total case of deception, subterfuge, and chicanery ๐ฎ. After all, you saw the proof here, David Duke and Will Quig, two high ranking white supremacists supported each respective candidate. And as established, support for candidate A from person B means candidate A's beliefs and ideology matches theirs. This much we know to be true ๐
Created:
Posted in:
While we're at it, if someone who holds a particular ideology supporting a particular candidate means that candidate also supports that. Then by God, as a trump supporter, that must mean Trump also supports legalization of most drugs just like i do! Wait... no he doesn't? Well that's not right, cause if support means a person shares ur beliefs, then he obviously must support that, else the David Duke example doesnt make much sense.
But of course it applies, because everybody knows someobody supporting a person means the person they support shares their views. How ever could it mean anything else? As people only ever support those whose views match theirs... ๐.ย
And thus we see, the stellar logic that brings about the conclusion: All Trump supporters must be white nationalists, because David Duke is one, and he says its true that Trump is!ย Because when we all think of paragons of truth, accuracy, and sanity, David Duke is obviously like the first name on that list. I mean, what else has he been wrong about before except almost his entire belief system? But like, why would that at all be indicative of his perception of reality? Belief systems have nothing to do with that, nope, not in the least bit, and its certainly not a large influence of the beliefs we adopt. Nope, the accuracy of our perceptions obviously dont have anything to do with the accuracy of our perceptions... wait a second...ย

It's true that sleep, paralysis, and polymorph were annoying. But what lost us that fight imho was not using any tactics at all and just pouring into the downstairs room and turning it into a cluster ๐.ย
We ignored the battlefield, didn't use the terrain to our advantage, like funneling them up the stairs to force them into having to take us one at a time, and instead crammed into one room ๐.

so gameplanning for level 6 im gonna round off my anti-spellcasting stuff. I'll take counterspell and command like planned. But am gonna switch it up and take silence as opposed to hypnotic pattern like i was starting to lean towards originally. Seems like a silence would have far greater utility to this group being we are severely lacking in that department as you pointed out. At that point I'll be remove curse away from essentially being the complete anti-spell guy ๐.

Found it, Players Handbook pg. 190
If you take an action that includes more than one weapon attack, you can break up your movement even further by moving between those attacks. For example, a fighter who can make two attacks with the Extra Attack feature and who has a speed of 25 feet could move 10 feet, make an attack, move 15 feet, and then attack again.
So yeah, you can split ur attacks up to all separate targets.

@TheDredPriateRoberts
for now it maybe worth the chance to do some damage to someone else's enemy as i can probably tank them better than most the other group.
(You have more control when it comes to this with dual-wield + double attack fmpov. Can potentially damage a Max 3 diff creatures in a turn instead of 2 maximum. But unlike GFB, that dmg on another target isn't guaranteed on hit if in range. So yet again, it's another case of a trade-off of benefits ๐.)
Created:
Posted in:
-->
@TheDredPriateRoberts
(especially since im not seeing anything that states you can't attack two different enemies with the double attack, then even an additional one beyond that with the offhand bonus attack. It essentially ensures ur not doing overkill that's anymore than 1d8+2(min. 1 hp remaining on creature. Whereas with GFB you have the potential of an overkill of 2d8-1.ย
It's up to you though, that +1 to AC w/shield is something to consider also. Less damage output overall and DPR, but reduced damage intake. I'm just trying to give you maximal info to gauge that decision more effectively ๐.
Honestly, I forgot how deep the rabbit hole is when it comes to meta analysis w/ this game. 2 lengthy ass posts just to conclude what was already known. It's a close and tough call ๐.
Created:
Posted in:

@drafterman
So then let's say, arbitrarily, in a 20 round span of time you would get in all likelihood 1 crit with GFB and place it at an average of, arbitrarily speaking 3d8+3 total damage over the course of a, let's just say abitrarily, every three rounds, for about 18d8+18 dmg or so over the course of that 20 round span + an extra 2d8+3for the one crit(unless the secondary is doubled as welll, in which case 3d8+3). So 20d8+21 damage over 20 rds, and 1d8+1 DPR.ย
Then let's place it at 3d8+6 per 3 rounds dual wield double attack over that span. However, there is almost guaranteed chance to crit over that same span of time. (15% per round, 3 rds = 45% chance of one crit.ย
So thats about 50/50 odds of adding another 1d8+(3 if main hand?) to that total damage output in just three rounds. At 6 rounds ur almost guaranteed to get at least one. So you would average about 3 crits in addition to the regular damage output.
So an additional 3d8+9 over the course of 20 rds on average. Placing the ouput at 21d8+45 dmg over 20 rounds. or a little over 1.4d8+ 2 DPR over that same course.ย
ย
Now that I've done the math, a little over +1 DPR(under 2) isnt a large difference. But then theres overkill(left-over) damage that cant be factored beyond saying, fmpov, there's a greater likelihood with GFB you have leftover damage upon killing something, and at greater amounts, while dual wield + double attack gives a greater range of control on where that dmg goes, reducing overkill dmg by a reasonably signifigant amount, maximizing "real" damage output or damage that actually affects HP and isnt overkill.ย
Well great, now i have a headache from this math and analysis ๐.
Created:
Posted in:
-->
@drafterman
Having to role multiple times to hit doesn't affect the average damage output over time, it just concentrates where that damage appears
In a sense, the increased likelihood of a crit should be factoring in too. 1/20 or 5% odds on critting in one roll(1d20.) 3 rolls(3d20) you have a 15% chance of rolling at least one crit. That's a signifigant jump in probability that will boost DPR fmpov.ย
So it would take 3 rounds to have 15% chance to cri with GFB. Whereas in that same three round span, there would be a 45% chance of rolling at least one crit.

@TheDredPriateRoberts
I moved the previous post to its now proper thread regarding the GBF/double attack analysis ๐.ย
wait, you can dual wield... if you use double attack, you get two attacks main hand, and still get an offhand attack as a bonus action. All three hit that's (3d8+6). By far ur best DPR bet is to use dual wielding and double attack. As opposed to (2d8+3... + 1d8 secondary). Not only do you have 3 hit rolls, and super good odds to hit at least once). And though its not likely you hit all three, DPR wise dual-wield+ double attack would fmpov be solidly above the DPR of GFB, though you wouldn't get the 2d8+3 + 1d8 secondary, burst on a singular hit, you'd have to hit all three times to get that 3d8. But you would get at least one hit a round in a likelihood.Factor in also thats three opportunities to crit and double ur damage for the attack that critted as compared to one. Which is also a factor to heavily take into consideration fmpov.
Created:
Posted in:
-->
@TheDredPriateRoberts
(Ah so the secondary 1d8 is a different target.)
(oh hrm in that case it looks like the GFB will have potential to do more over all per round
It looks like that if you just factor in damage. But if I'm not mistaken, you get one hit roll with GFB, and 2 hit rolls with double attacks? Thats gonna factor into DPR cause if you miss with GFB you get 0. Whereas with a double attack you get two hit rolls? so even if you miss one, there's still a good chance you hit on the other and do at least some damage. Double attack prolly does more DPR, GFB has the greater "burst" potential fmpov.)

(these guys have pack tactics so we gotta thin the herd quick. Another wolf(not incapacitated) is within 5ft of whomever is being attacked grants advantage on attacks(pack tactics.)ย
The regular wolves have at max 18 hp(2d8+2). Most tactical bet would be to clear out the reggie wolves as they'll go down quick.ย
And even though the difference in dmg between bites is 2d4+2(wolf) as compared to 2d6+3(dire wolf), the numbers game has it to where we gotta thin the numbers or we're well in the realm of being able to have 1-2 chars ktfo'd in a single round if the wolves focus their attacks and get good rolls.
Plus with a negative chr modifier my bane cast is likely to work on the wolves i cast it on, so they'll be subtracting a d4 from AR's and ST's, making it much harder to secure hits on us for them ๐
Tl;dr- priority should be taking out the reggie wolves first imho.

(so the difference between GFB and dual-wield would essentially be 1d8-3?) "-3" being the adjustment for the absence of the strength modifier for the extra attack.ย
(@roberts- dmg wise GFB is edging out the extra attack. But in terms of DPR I'm not sure if it would actually pump out more, because with double attack it's two chances to secure a hit, but with GFB its only one chance at securing a hit, no? Wish i had my dice handy at work so I could sim some rolls to gauge avg DPR, cause it's a damn close call on whch one would be consistently most effective in terms of DPR.)

("prepared" would be it's in ur spellbook and castable. "Readying' is what ur looking for, but even then ur holding the cast for a round(while the magic is clearly noticeable as ur doing so) to use it at a reaction. Readying a spell requires concentration on it. I'm pretty sure if you ready a spell and end up not using it, pretty sure it still uses the slot.ย

If a racist cop wants me to shoot a black person because that person is black. Then hands me the gun and I shoot him. But I, personally, bear no ill will toward that black person and am not racist myself, would you consider this scenario, taken as a whole, to be racist?
And how is this at all similar to someone changing their own appearance, of their own volition, to look more similar to a person they are trying to portray? Are you trolling? Cause this doesn't make any sense as a comparison.ย
"Blackface" and "minstrel shows" are, though intertwined because minstrel shows were done in blackface, separate things. You're conflating the racism of minstrel shows with blackface.ย
Would a minstrel show be racist without the performers in blackface? If yes, then blackface itself doesn't have shit to do with it, it's the act, the portrayal that differentiates it. What you are doing here is comparatively as if you called a weapon scope dangerous, because it's used on a gun, and guns are dangerous, so scopes are too.ย
But no, the scope itself isnt dangerous, unless you put it on the gun, it's basically just a shitty telescope. Same with blackface, unless you put it into an act or portrayal that is insulting, it's just make-up to imitate/mimic.ย
Now, this doesn't matter if you think mimicry/imitation is itself can be nothing other than insulting and defamatory. But if thats the case, a discussion on blackface wouldnt get anywhere before we analyze the fundamental basics of performance arts, but also innate human behavior and how we initially learn.
But let's say the issue is the "minstrel show" a specific comedic act. Do you think minstrel shows have disappeared? No lol, they're still around and consumed by people of all varieties, races, and creeds, even you, and you probably dont realize you've consumed and enjoyed plenty of them, you bigot ๐.
