So what does that mean in regard to your acceptance or rejection of modern divine miracles? Which there are sometimes reports of. Do you believe these are mere rumor?

And also, as someone who talks to God, do you believe everyone's account of God talking to them?

FFS I just realized I didn't explain why it makes total sense to me even though you were asking for an explanation. I've been up for like 30 hours, it may be showing.

I once addressed that here.

Well, you tell me;

Why even participate in a debate website if you plan to ignore the main feature of the site?
Sorry, I've just had this argument before.

Debating in the forums is debate. It's thread debate. I enjoy reading both thread debates and formal debates for different reasons and I feel that if we lost either one of them, the site would be greatly diminished. And it makes total sense to me that many users would use the forums and not really care about formal debates.

I hope that quote wasn't you btw
It was not me, which is why Wylted was banned right now. Castin was shown evidence of Wylted's dishonesty, Wylted was unable to provide her evidence of the truth of his allegation (because none existed), and, based on that, coupled with Wylted's confession to Virt, Castin made a determination. Honestly, that quote doesn't even sound like me.
He actually confessed directly to me as well. *shrug*

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and tell me about your experiences.

Honestly I kind of envy your spiritual journey and your ability to maintain doubtless faith. I've never been able to. Doubt is the single most pervading emotion in my existential experience -- not being sure what's real, what's right, or if there even is a "real" or "right" way. The things I'm truly sure of could probably be counted on one hand. So the trusting bond between God and believer is sort of shrouded in mystery to me because it's something I don't think I can really attain -- or at least, maintain once attained.

Out of curiosity, why do you think the biblical age of miracles ended?

Hi there. I read you are a new moderator and thought I would see why Bsh1 was so impressed.
I spiked his drink with LSD and whispered "Castin is great" in his ear repetitively.

I want to be given an explanation that isn't the same circular Truth=God=Ultimate Reality=Truth.

I also want to know why you feel the need to tell people with different beliefs than yours that they're under the universal dominion of your god whether they like it or not.

No.

Do you understand what The Ultimate Reality means?

Surely you can admit this exists.

What is the alternative?

It's absolutely necessary.
I still don't have a clear idea of your description of ultimate reality, no.

You are right. When you make God into an idol, you are mocking a great deal more than I.

The Supreme and Ultimate Reality is God, and there is no other. Is it so hard to admit The Truth?

This is why there can be no world peace. This should be the easiest thing in the world everyone can agree on, and people can't even do that.

Meanwhile, over 20,000,000 of my brothers and sisters were killed in the last century by people who treated believing in God like a mental illness and scourge on society.
How am I making God into an idol? And isn't he supposed to be the ultimate idol anyway?

You got a better way to address the leprechaun strawman?  I'm sure he would be interested.  People sometimes need to understand somehow who won't otherwise entertain the idea that God is different than, a god.  You can't put God in a box.  If anything, we are in the box.
How does this relate to Mopac's definition of God?

Created:

We're not arguing about God. We're arguing about Mo's definition of God, and he frequently alleges that a definition does exist.

And I was referring to Ram's argument, which said the road runner has a definition in the context of this thread.

Didn't you once spray paint the halls of DID in defiance of the idea of assistant moderation? Oh well at least we don't have some fool that wants the job. You cannot trust people who want authority.
It's the policy of this administration that everything becomes cool and acceptable if and when I do it.

But yeah, I definitely was not enthused at the prospect of even part time authority.

I agree with that appearance, but I don't believe she would have chosen if there was less than the remotest possibility that this would be realized.

What the mod team needs is diversity of philosophy at the highest level.
bish is a pompous arsehole. There, did that help? C'mon. It did a little, didn't it. Didn't it, draft. A little bit. I'll say it again: bish -- pompous arsehole. Oh ho, it just helped a bit more didn't it! Yesss... admit it... admiiiiiiiiit iiiiiiiiiiit... I have tickled your soft underbelly... your defenses crumble before me...

Honestly, I've been on bish's side of things on many site matters, so yeah I can certainly see where you're coming from. I've also been sympathetic with some of your points and witnessed what I considered to be legitimate criticism of moderation. I'll be looking at things from everyone's perspective and coming to my own judgment. Wait and see and bitch if necessary.

A reserve mod who only has authority in special cases definitely shouldn't be taken as an addition to the mod team at the highest level. Personally I'd welcome any willing and qualified member to the mod team, but I don't know what your idea of "diversity of philosophy" is exactly.

For the record I don't have any mod powers or access to the mod CP or anything of the sort. If this job came with that, I would've turned it down. I'm just a member whose judgment will be deferred to in cases where mods feel a need to recuse themselves. Most of the time I'mma be slummin' it as a commoner so don't expect me to not belch or swear, mkay. Life demands both if you ask me.

The first person who suggests that I am not cool because I'm now part of the "establishment" will have their severed heads mounted on the ramparts of my castle as an example to others who may be thinking about questioning my coolness.

Some quick Q & A's:

How were you chosen for this position?
I made an offering to Satan obviously. Don't be naive.

What do you think of the mods?
They're android extensions of me I'm controlling with my mind.

How will you arrive at decisions?
Magic 8 ball. Expect a lot of "the future is hazy, ask again laters".

Not a lot of people want to mess with a formal debate with rules and time constraints and homework involved. You get more instant gratification from posting in the forums, it's much freer and much less of a commitment, and you get all the added benefits of a dialogue where three or more people can join in. It's way more social, and people are social animals.

I suspect this will be the case in most places that offer formal debates as well as forums. There seemed to be only a minority of active debaters on DDO as well.

I don't think I'm equipped to properly address the idea as it stands in vague reference, but have no confidence in it standing up to theological scrutiny.  I suggest it would do you well not to lean on that notion too hard. Personally, I would not lean on it at all, though I wouldn't honestly deny the possibility for that kind of developement permeating society.  I wouldn't let it rule my judgement either. A Christian's faith, is ultimately in God. That is truthful, and not disrespectful of legitimate teachings of Jesus Christ.  It's not correct I believe, for us to hold judgement upon Christians expressing such truth.  It's not correct to generalize such judgement upon members of the church whose role in duty is unique among members of society.
I still don't really understand what your problem is with the analogy that people with different religions are like people who speak different languages. How does that undermine your faith, or your deity? If God does exist, and created humans, then subjectivity of experience and therefore diversity of belief was part of the plan, you know.

That doesn't really answer my question. Why did he go there if he knew there was a risk they could all die of illnesses he was carrying? In the past, explorers have wiped out whole cultures of native peoples this way. When the European settlers came to the Americas, 90% of Native Americans died of European diseases they had no immunities for. Whole cities once busy and populated became silent graveyards. What use is it to bring Christ to these islands if the islanders all die before you can make them understand what Christianity even is?

What do you think was the extent of Hitler's involvement in the Holocaust? Where do you stand concerning functionalism vs intentionalism? I'll copy Wikipedia's explanation:

  1. Was there a master plan on the part of Adolf Hitler to launch the Holocaust? Intentionalists argue there was such a plan, while functionalists argue there was not.
  2. Did the initiative for the Holocaust come from above with orders from Adolf Hitler or from below within the ranks of the German bureaucracy? Although neither side disputes the reality of the Holocaust, nor is there serious dispute over the premise that Hitler (as Fuhrer) was personally responsible for encouraging the anti-Semitism that allowed the Holocaust to take place, intentionalists argue the initiative came from above, while functionalists contend it came from lower ranks within the bureaucracy.

How come you are allowed to get away with vague threats on here such as "You'll regret that later" and other times you have hinted around that you would attempt to make somebody's life a living hell, but another user who uses the word tranny (and I am risking being banned myself by putting that there) is insta-banned?

Why do you get this special treatment, and how can I gain the same time of prefferrential treatment so I can start making vague threats against users I have personal differences with?
Could be because moderation has resolved to be more relaxed since the tranny incident.

I've never met a Christian who was capable of seriously entertaining the possibility that Zeus is the most powerful god and also, actually, really and truly exists.

It's like a native English speaker trying to convince a native Chinese speaker that the English language is vastly superior and by every logical measure the only language anyone should ever be taught around the world until the end of time.

And the native Chinese speaker makes the exact same argument in favor of the entire planet adopting the Chinese alphabet.

Your god is your language.

You decide it is best because you can't even imagine an alternative.

Often, simply because that is what you were taught as a child.
Splendid analogy.

Yes, obviously. But "preferring their suspicions to reality" almost implies that they understand their suspicions differ from reality and are choosing to believe their suspicions anyway. When most of the time they -- I should say "we", actually, since we all do it -- actually think our suspicions and reality are one and the same.
