It's potentially problematic. If it becomes a serious issue, I will instigate a conversation about whether it ought to be permitted.
Well, it wasn't permitted. Mike temp banned that user. But it was in the gray area before the CoC was up, so I'm not sure where that leaves things.

Sometimes I wonder if even deb knows what his problem is. It has something to do with religious groups, but what exactly seems to be a mystery, even to deb.

What is it that decides what a person's obsession will fall on? Is joining or being in a religious group not really obscure to be the subject of a consuming obsession?

It takes all types.
Lol. I never knew why he's preoccupied with religious groups. I mostly just laugh and go with the discussion.

I agree. It would also explain why there are so many various and different experiences. That is primarily the first step that made me think of a more social spiritual platform. Plus, i've had random experiences that just don't make sense if it is either god or the devil... why in the world would eternal beings care to spook me or show me anything for that matter. Most theists tell me it is the devil tricking me... really, i have the devil's audience. Well... lucky me. The lord of darkness spin's necklaces ;p
Ha, that story was trippy.

I don't think it's necessarily impossible for a cosmic higher power to be interested in human lives. I just find it implausible. To me, this is exactly what a universe without a personal God would look like. Indifferent, chaotic, and amoral. I've been told I'm a cynic.

Moderation is currently just getting started and will need to review reports to begin making determinations. Bans, except in exceptional circumstances, should not come about overnight.

I will not comment on specific previous bans made by the site ownership, partly because I am not up-to-date on all the specifics and justifications for the ban, and partly because those bans preceded any official site conduct policy (which should be up soon).

Call out threads are trouble. I have already reached out to a member about them, and will continue to discourage their use and to take action where appropriate.
Fair.

The previous bans did a lot to cement my trust in the administration and my hope that DART would have a higher standard of management than DDO. Now that the CoC is up, I can see they were all banned for behavior it prohibits, so that settles that -- with the notable exception of thread spam. I can't find anything in the rules regarding that.

Moderation on DDO was always laissez-faire, I thought. There were times when the mod response was more or less severe, but I think it averaged out. It's hard to describe a mod style, tbh. Maybe someone else can do a better job at explaining it to you than I can.
I can understand the difficulty. Wish I'd just seen for myself what it looked like when airmax stepped in.

Pursuant to eth's post, would you have banned Zarroette/Analgesic, vagabond, Willows, or Harikrish?

Also, what do you think of threads that are personally calling out a certain member or members? In a negative light, of course. I think call-out threads are trouble.

@ocean
They have an account on DDO, but they never discussed the site with me and I have no inclination to join it after what I have read here. I told this friend that I am interested in online debating, and they advised that I review DebateArt.

At present, I am mostly becoming acquainted with other users and fathoming how things work.
I see. A belated welcome to the site. We need new members.

Kind of an awkward question, but why was one of the first things you did to jump into the middle of a personal flamewar between two people who are strangers to you? I know you said you've been lurking and following flamewars, but it's not exactly what I'd expect a newbie to do. Couldn't resist the drama? No one ever said flamewars are boring.

Though I am pressed for time at the moment, I would like to note three things. Firstly, I believe the best modding is modding which is laissez-faire and hands off. Secondly, everyone will start from a clean slate--what happened or happens on DDO stays on DDO. Thirdly, the rules and approach to modding that I will follow are based to a large extent on those present on DDO. Those are tried-and-tested rules which can be implemented immediately.
What was DDO's approach to modding?

That's not a slam or a joke. Many displays of moderation on DDO were before my time. Juggle seemed to have pretty much abandoned the site by the time I arrived, and the only staffer who was showing up had no executive power or support that I could see. Active moderation seemed to be in decline as a result. I know what the rules were, and I know the moderation did have a hands-off attitude in general, but looking at DDO doesn't give me an idea of what you'll really do. That is, what you'll take action on, or what your approach to moderating will be when you do act.

I understand you're busy. I don't expect an immediate response. Or any response, really. It's not your obligation to educate me.

What if what everyone hears is there higher self? Wouldn't that make a lot more sense than a random caring about certain people's daily lives?
In my opinion, yes. I think it would explain the personal element better for me, which has always been one of the things I find most difficult to believe about the popular idea of God.

By the way, thank you to everyone giving me honest and polite answers. I realize these are personal questions.

Does God respond in words?
That I hear in the air? No. But sometimes, say, as the voice of my mother? Yes.
To clarify, I'm not asking theists if you hear words out loud exclusively. They can be in your mind. Or I suppose they can even be words in a book, song, or movie it feels like God is drawing your attention to at the right time.

Do you mean God sometimes speaks in your mind with your mother's voice?

Is it just a feeling or emotion, like a wordless sense of wellbeing or reassurance?
Yes, but not always. Sometimes He isn't pleased, and you can feel the distance and displeasure between you.
Sounds ominous. Like a rumble-of-thunder moment. Do you know immediately when you're doing something that displeases him?

To ask a further question, how complex can God's messages be while still remaining understandable to the human mind?

Suppose I am a god and I want to give some very personal guidance to one of my children. For instance, I want to say, "Laura, you must stop choosing men who treat you as poorly as your father did. You have the strength to break out of this cycle of self-abuse. Value and respect yourself. Don't be afraid to live independently of a controlling possessive partner. Stop defining okay and not okay by whether an abuser in your life is placated or angered. Take the new job offer, move out of Rick's apartment, and do not thrust a bad father upon your future children. I believe in you, I love you" etc.

Does God send messages this full or detailed? This doesn't seem like something that can be expressed with a wordless divine feeling. Or would God not send a message like this because it's simply too heavy-handed? Is any sufficiently complex message something God would rather you realize for yourself?

If so, how do you overcome it?
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing come by the word of God.
What do you mean? By reading the Bible? Or listening to the gospel preached?

Is there a quality to "God's voice" that is immediately and fundamentally distinct from your own inner voice, so that you can always tell when it's supposedly God and when it's just your own mind?
Yes, but you must learn to recognize it, because your voice and God's voice are not the only voices in you vying for attention.
Are you referring to the Adversary?

While people can have faith in science (I do), science is not faith based. It is evidence based. It doesn't require ardor or faith. It requires empirical proof.

Do you talk to God?

>> yes

What's this experience like? Is it one-way, where you're sending God prayers, or does God ever touch your mind in response? If there is a response, what is it like? Does God respond in words? Is it just a feeling or emotion, like a wordless sense of wellbeing or reassurance?

>> God has spoken to me on two occasions, and I have felt his presence

Is there ever a doubting part of you that whispers that you're just talking to yourself? If so, how do you overcome it? Is there a quality to "God's voice" that is immediately and fundamentally distinct from your own inner voice, so that you can always tell when it's supposedly God and when it's just your own mind?

>> yes I have doubts
Why do you think God chose to speak to you?

What did his presence feel like? Warm? Scary? Familiar? Alien? Loving, distant, etc?

Lulz. Shameless polluter poem. Cute.

On a serious note, it often hits me how crazy it is that the whole world runs on such a finite and exhaustible resource. And one that will leave us with a ruined environment when it finally runs out.

Not to say only oil and carbon emissions are to blame for that. We must give credit to cow farts. So many cow farts. Cow farts errywhere. Their name is legion, for they are many.

Jared Fogle (formerly Subway Jared)
Fogle first came to the attention of law enforcement in 2007, when reporter Rochelle Herman-Walrond told police in Sarasota, Florida, that he had made salacious comments to her about middle school-aged girls at a school health event she was covering for a local news station. She made recordings of Fogle's remarks and saved text messages between them, and then went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where agents asked her to wear a wiretap during her conversations with him. Herman-Walrond befriended Fogle and, for the next four years, surreptitiously recorded her conversations with him as part of an ongoing federal investigation. She recorded him making several remarks about having had sex with underage girls and asking her to install a webcam in her children's rooms so he could watch them.
I don't understand why in the world he would just openly say these things to her. Knowing she was a reporter. And a mother. This story is several years old and I still don't get it. I'm sure he got off on talking about it to someone else, and I know a common trait of sociopathy (if he had it) is uninhibited boldness, but come on. Where's the basic slimeball self-preservation instinct? She looked and acted exactly like a watchdog soccer mom who was undercover to lure out a sicko, and he bought it from the beginning with no apparent suspicion.

If you want to see what I mean, listen to these recordings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7fywYUZqbk (Or don't, because they're disturbing. You are warned.) Is it just me, or is what she says from 0:25 to 0:48 basically "I'm wearing a wire, please incriminate yourself".

Fogle's psychiatrist said he had replaced his overeating disorder with "soft" pedophilia.

I recently talked to one of our members who had been temp banned. Apparently he thought DART had completely crashed, and had no idea he'd been banned. He said there was no notice or explanation, and was fairly miffed at such treatment. Is ban notice something that will be implemented in the moderation system release?

They came in here acting like this was DDO. Now they've been shown it isn't DDO and they need to change their conduct if they want to be here. Give them a second chance to do that, now that they know the score.

But guys, I'm worried you're just gonna get banned as troublemakers if you keep this up. Or troubleprolongers, at least. People have already been banned for causing comparable trouble. If Mike looks in thread after thread and consistently sees the same people involved in flamewars, he might think the easiest solution is just to get rid of the problem members.

Oh sweet, there are female contestants in later seasons? I thought they'd be sticking with dudes.

In my experience men seem to crave more meat in general. Couldn't tell you why. Any number of factors could be skewing my impression. The list of food I've seen the season 1 guys score includes mushrooms, bull kelp, mussels, a slug, and fish. No mammals yet. They haven't run across any critters that would make a low-risk food source. Just wolves and bears. Our ancestors may have had the guts to hunt wolves and bears without a firearm, but we don't. I like my intestines on the inside of my body, thank you.

It would be a huge advantage to be an herbalist, provided you were educated on the local plant life. As of season 1, they seem to be picking contestants who are not native to the area.

I gotta hand it to you, I'm really likin' it and I think I'll be a steady viewer. I like how you can look up each guy's gear list online.
